PART 2-37 - ANTIDOTE
-VANCE'S POV-
Why won’t Sianna listen to me?
Internally, I groused.
Kurtis was a damn mood killer. I was tempted to transfer him. I really should do it and bring in another doctor to replace the ones who were retiring. As long as their names bore no similarity to Kurtis, no matter how it was spelled, whether it was the first or last name.
Ugh! I hated the son-of-a-bitch. Balling fists, my turbulent aura channeled out, but when I felt the apprehension of the staff, I tapered my bad mood and vacated the hospital building.
Upon approaching my office, the pack house was filled with teenagers who had requested permission to host Sofia's birthday party. She was a warrior and events like these were allowed as long as they stuck to certain standards. They were hanging decorations all over and bowed as I passed the lot of them.
Despite the noisy bunch, whispers were heard from my office. They ought to know by now that the low audible would not miss an Alpha King's ear. Decelerating my steps, I cloaked my aura and perked up my ears to listen.
"Come on, Keisha, hurry." Duke urged.
"I'm doing the best that I can. You're the one who ripped buttons off my blouse." She sounded angry.
Apologetically, he murmured, "Sorry babes, but you teased me." There was some shuffling around after he highlighted, "Vance is here. Go now."
"Alright. Fine." She whisper-yelled.
The door opened and Keisha snuck out with her back to me. By the time she closed the door and swung around, she froze at my darkly menacing height.
Her mouth opened.
Her breath hitched.
Keisha held a black bra in one hand and her lake-green eyes looked left and right like a guilty adolescent who missed curfew. Her heart hammered loudly. The clip that bunched her untidy bun burst and the mass of her velour-black hair plopped down to meet her shoulders.
Then she composed herself, closing her mouth and clasped her open blouse shut to avoid further exposure of her copper-brown breasts. The evidence of her little tryst was obvious.
"I dropped in to get news about the, um, mer-people." She thinned her lips, unable to meet my gaze.
"Did you sterilize my desk?" I asked as lowly as possible, maintaining my calm while giving her steely eyes.
"It wasn't the desk― this ― time," Keisha admitted slowly, almost stammering.
They were not allowed to fuck in my office, yet they broke that one rule every fucking time.
"I swear this is the last time," she avowed and slipped past me.
I shook my head from side to side and contemplated strangling my Beta.
When I entered the office, Duke sat on the couch to the wall with his right leg crossed on top of the left. He was on his tablet, acting like he didn’t just have the fuck of his life with Keisha. Immediately, by the scent and where he was positioned, I knew where they had soiled with sex. The couch. I sighed to release my anger. I’ll let it go this time.
Innocently, he looked up at me and asked, “Will we be frying some half-fishes or not?”
“Not.” I took my chair and looked at the pile of folders on my desk. I rubbed my face thinking that I needed a vacation. I suppose that even Duke deserved one too.
It was a bit humorous that while Blayne wanted to pursue the werelions, it was Duke who was ready to attack the merfolks. I, on the other hand, wanted to ensure that things were back to normal with Sianna.
I wondered about the punishment that she would apply to Valen. With his eagle and lion guardians, he was already extremely powerful for his age. Nevertheless, they held respect for his parents. Therefore, his punishment was inevitable.
“By the way, can you take this to Marlena?” I threw the box at him and he caught it. “Aegeus claimed that it could cure Venus. Sianna is not aware of it. I want Marlena to check it out and let me know if the Mer-king was honest.”
Duke nodded. “Sure.” He rose to his feet, putting the tablet on my desk.
“And Blayne’s going on vacation.” I leaned back in my chair, meeting his startled gaze, and saw the lipstick stain on the crook of his neck.
“He agreed?” With his eyebrows arching upwards, he gave me an are-you-kidding-me look.
“He has no choice.” Stoically, I declared and leaned forward, picking up one of the folders. “Raj is perfectly capable of managing security for two weeks.”
Standing straight, Duke responded with a laugh that could be heard outside of the office walls. “He’s going to be miserable for those days. It’s better to let Cleo snatch him on a trip or something. He can’t stay in Dark Wolverson.”
I had opened the folder and paused at the second page when my Beta brought that up. “You are right.” I snapped the folder shut and pondered.
“We could book them tickets for our hotel in Dubai.” He promptly suggested, putting his hands into the pockets of his navy blue jeans. Duke was always quick-thinking and decisive. “Theo and Thaines can stay here at the pack house or with their grandparents.”
Putting the folder on the desk, I vibrantly noted with a grin. “Excellent idea.”
My eyes crinkled at the corners as I thought about the expression on Blayne’s face when he found out that we were sending him away for his vacation. He’ll probably burst in here with every shitty argument as to why he couldn’t leave the States. Unless Cleo capitalized on the opportunity to spend time with him. With all confidence, I believed that she would.
“I’ll do the booking,” I told Duke as I pressed the power button on my laptop. “Get to Marlena immediately. If all goes well with the antidote, I want Venus cured today.”
Otherwise, I'll have to destroy the mer-kingdom for trying to con me. So, I’ll wait to see how that goes. No one toys with me and gets away with it.
