Chapter 135 2-7- UNINVITED
\-VANCE'S POV-
"That is no way to greet an old friend." She pouted. As her flirty brown eyes flickered to meet mine, she tried to brush her fingers through the messy ponytail of my black hair. "We were lovers,
Vance, and I'm sure that you don't want your precious Luna to know that I'm back."
I scoffed.
Esme paled. She seemingly expected a different outcome. I would never welcome her with warmth after the fact that she was exiled from Dark Wolverson. Was it Blayne or Duke who allowed her in the pack? I'm about to bust off their asses today.
A ray of anger morphed into her features and she scowled at me." Don't forget that I also was carrying your child until...."
"Don't waste my time!" I warned her, not touching my meal. " Whatever you want, say it before today is your final day of breathing."
Suddenly, her face converted into a familiar seductive look. One that she had used plenty of times in the past to get what she wanted from me. I wanted to heave and vomit.
"Vance," she purred with a second attempt to touch my shoulder.
Clearly, my ex-lover had gone mad. She was obviously deranged to show up after seventeen years to try to seduce me. Why hadn't she moved on? Everyone knew not to be angry with their Luna Queen in order to avoid her gruesome anger.
"You have ten seconds to get to your point," I said in a hard tone, leaning back into my chair. Indifference set in my features.
She flipped the loose brunette tresses back and I realized that it was a wig that covered her blonde hair. A pathetic chuckle escaped me. She was not foolish to walk around with her true appearance since it would alert the women and be kicked out. Yet she brazenly approached me in one of the Omega's black and white maid's uniforms that were way too high above the knees.
"There was a time when you promised to help me elevate." She slipped her butt on top of my desk, taking an unwelcome seat. "I was the one who should have been your Luna and you would have honored that promise."
"I'm not going down that awful memory lane with you." I was right. She was a lunatic and pitifully delusional. My stony eyes narrowed at where she was heading with her request.
Shamelessly, she crossed her legs and the hem of the uniform rose higher up her thighs. "When you transferred me out of the pack, I had to start over. Things have been difficult, Vance." She pressed her mouth into a pout as a part of her nostalgic manipulation. "And my great-great-grandmother, who is one of the most senior she-wolves of this pack has been very worried about my welfare."
Centenarian wolves were honorary within packs. Esme's great-great- grandmother, Bette, recently celebrated her one-hundred-and- fiftieth birthday and was a close friend of my own. Naturally, she'd expect that I would graciously consider the petition. Had she not been an ex, it would have been approved. Having her back was risky. So, I won't override my decree, not for her. I loved the peaceful sanctuary of my home very much. It was worth preserving.
"So I told her that I would talk to you about reinstating me into the pack and giving me back my status and salary." She possessed that nauseating smile that annoyed the hell out of me.
"That is something that my Luna Queen would decide when you send her an email with your request." I retorted with a mean scowl. "Now leave!"
Emails were provided as a communication channel for all werewolves around the globe to be able to connect with their leaders. It was a hectic process to file through so many at a time, but that was what Keisha, Cleo, and Hailey served for. It required Esme to fill out an online transfer application file with substantial reasons for the request to be considered.
Knowi that she was my ex, there was way that Sianna would approve, even if a centenarian elder appealed. I believe that Esme would only create more problems and that's the last thing we needed.
I massaged my temples. Her visit dented any radiance that I could have hoped for today. The food before me was untouched. My appetite was lost.
"Blayne, Duke," I growled through the mind-link, "Whichever one of you allowed Esme into the pack better come and throw her out NOW!"
The smile on her face dulled with a tinge of hurt in her eyes that was briefly replaced by defiance. "I'll leave silently if you give me what I want. I have not renounced my membership with the pack."
"Damn, I thought the bitch had gone by now." Came the guilty voice. Of course, it had to be Blayne. "I'm sorry Alpha. I permitted her for six hours in the pack to celebrate with Bette and then I rushed away and totally forgot to check on her. Shit! I'm coming.'
"For goddess sake, Blyane! What the fuck were you thinking?" Duke scolded and I closed the link, leaving them arguing.
"Please, Vance." She entreated, folding her bottom lip under, outwardly on the verge of tears. "Don't be angry with me. I came in the best way possible to speak with you. I truly believe that you should help me financially because you promised that I wouldn't lack anything."
I cocked a brow at her, utterly disgusted by her good acting. "Why don't you let your man cater to your needs? That's his job, not mine." I snorted with disdain. "I would rather throw you in a cell and let the lowest-ranking Omega torture you."
To be thirty-eight and unmarked was hard to digest. Undoubtedly,
she must have rejected her mate. Or it was possible that he did not want her. Quite frankly, I couldn't give a damn about how she had
lived her life.
Tight-lipped with anger, she stared at me for three seconds. "I don't deserve that. You used me and tossed me aside the minute Sianna came along. How do you expect me to act when-"
"When someone else came and took your place?" I finished her
sentence for her with a harsh sardonic tone. "Clearly you hold a grudge against your queen." Having no patience left, I tapped my fingers on the desk. My eyes trained on her flustered state.
She blustered and shook her head. "You have it all wrong. I am not trying to get you back."
Yeah right, I rolled my eyes. A perfectly good breakfast would be wasted. I knew that she had not prepared it because, with Keisha and
Hailey around the pack house, she would have been found out.
"All I'm asking for is some help. You can afford to give me five hundred thousand dollars and it is what you had promised me." She grabbed my right arm in desperation, "Please."
Instantly, the urge to bodily throw her out swept upon me. My left hand clamped around her throat and yanked her to her feet, backing her up to the wall behind her. Her eyes widened in fear.
"I love you." She wheezed, clutching at my hand, and choked out. "It
was always you."
I laughed in her face. The absolute nerve of this snobbish woman. I will not let her cause any chaos in my life. Sianna was happy and I intended to keep it that way.
At the same time, the office door opened and Blayne appeared, shirtless and covered in sweat. With an aggressive shove, I tossed her right into his chest. Her unsteady feet gave way and she fell on her
bottom.
"Vance." Shaking, her voice cracked. Her brown eyes became glossy as Blayne bent to take an arm to stand her up. The tears poured down and she pressed a hand to her chest.
Nothing. I felt no sympathy or desire to help her. Beclouded with
rage, I leveled a strong glare at her. "Consider this your last warning." And to Blayne, I snarled, "The next time you see her, kill
her on the spot, and if you fail me again...."
"Roger that, Alpha." Blayne bared his neck, seeing me seething. He
knew that he had messed up.
"But Vance, we aren't done talking-" She protested in a panic as Blayne delivered a chop on the side of her neck to knock her out cold and carried her out of the building.
Relieved at last, I slumped in my chair, rubbing my hands up and down my face. "Madeline, come and get this plate from my office and make me something else to eat." "Yes, Alpha." The head matron of the Omegas replied.
"Vance, are you with another woman? Why does my wolf tell me that someone we don't like is in your office?" Sianna's questioning tone flew into my head, deeply concerned. Her voice made my wolf yip. Oh damn! Please don't tell me that Sianna knows. This was an episode that I was hellbent on avoiding. Besides, Esme was as good
as gone.
"Um, baby, you're the only woman in my head." With a stoic tone, I
explained as casually as I could. "I'm alone in my office and I was about to come over to you."
"Okay," I was overjoyed when she teased, "You miss me that much,
huh?"
I could not help but chuckle. "Of course. There's so much to miss."
She giggled and went back to work.
I rose from the chair and smelled myself. I could not have Esme's
ripe banana scent on me. Luckily, she never rubbed off on me. Thank goddess! I made it through the door to bump into a hurrying Madeline with a tray of my meal. She managed to balance the contents on the tray after I almost knocked everything from her
hand. "I'm sorry, Alpha." Madeline paled and swiftly apologized. Her hands shook as she was a bit scared of fueling my anger. "It's fine. I have to rush out." I told her, dismissively. She stepped to the side and I moved down the hallway with lithe and
into the main living room. A bunch of Omegas bowed and parted the
way for me to walk through as I went out of the foyer and exited the pack house.
"Hey, Vance." Blayne came through the mind-link.
My brows raised in curiosity as I wondered, what now. "Yes,
Gamma."
"Esme's dead. I killed her." He reported, ruefully.
I froze and asked with my voice hard and angry. "You did what?"
Sianna was sure to find out now because Esme's death in the pack
was bound to be broadcast. Bette might not take the news very well and seek reparations from Sianna. At that point, I was sure that I would have to explain to her what my ex was doing here in the first
place. I ought to kill my Gamma. I would be surprised if Blayne lived past fifty.
"Alpha, she came back to consciousness and would not follow orders. She literally attacked me so I ...." He conveyed.
There was no reason to doubt his side of the story. She had it coming.
She was stubborn and insufferable.
"Just take care of it." I snapped, jumping into my Hummer and making my way to the clinic.
