Chapter 78 THE FAVOR

Chapter 78 THE FAVOR

CURTIS POV
"We all know of your mate's crime." Devyn would not shut up and kept running her mouth, "She is dead now." She emptied the contents of her pouch, "Also the witch, Zelda."
My wolf was lamenting Jazmine's death. He's upset with me, and that's an understatement. To stop him from seeking retribution at the hands of Dark Wolverson, I spent the majority of the time fighting him off. I knew better than to charge into their territory and try to get that. Without effective plans in place, revenge was a sheer failure. And only one's cleverness can defeat an adversary who is more powerful and agile.
I'm compared to the mouse going up against a dragon. If the dragon is intelligent, then the mouse will have to outwit him through the cracks and holes, but where the dragon was foolish, a coy mouse can easily maneuver and outsmart him. Vance was a smart, powerful, and ruthless dragon.
'Kill them all,' My wolf snarls around the clock.
I ignore the feral wolf as I'm sitting deep in the cave so that the crackling fire won't give away my location. Devyn had taken me to this hiding spot. She brought the supplies that were required to prepare the concoction that I requested.
"Did you know that Zelda was my best friend? Do you know how she died?" She asked with the most insolent tone.
No, I thought to myself, but you are going to tell me, right?
"She was tortured. He let her bleed to death before they burnt her." She hisses to herself and draws a small circle with charcoal on the ground.
"Hmmm, that is sad to hear." My sarcastic tone was not held back. I deliberately had to let her know that I don't give a shit. "You and your mate, all you do is get people in trouble," She retorted and placed two red and two green candles to form a square outside of the circle. I thought witches had to speak good of the dead. Now I know that it was only a rumor.
This was a different form of torture and I wished I had ear muffs to block my hearing. Such a pity that I must endure this harshness to get what I needed from her.
"You may have saved my life four years ago, but now you come here to force me to my own execution," She fumed endlessly as she mixed the liquid.
I watch her rip a living frog's leg off, took cat's hair from the small pouch, and something else that smells like cow dung. She grinds them on a carved log then added different herbs to it, crushing them together.
"I'm not going to have to drink it, will I?" This was a spiteful act. I bet that there was another way to give me what I wanted. Covering my nose from the disgusting scent that made me want to retch.
She glared at me and threw the knife, but with her terrible aim, it was not even close enough to do any damage. Pathetic witch! I dare not laugh or she might zap me with fire.
"Some people asked for good health, to get rich, or protection. But you...." she hacked her saliva and spat it to the ground while gazing at me. Shaking her head in contempt, she continued, "...... You had to ask me to help you kidnap the werewolf queen."
Once you have knowledge of the Wiccan world and its laws, they can be backed into a corner. When I saved her life, I took the advantage of claiming that favor of goodwill. No matter what I wanted, she had to fulfill her obligation to the favor that I requested.
So, she cursed me a million times and called me every condescending name that existed throughout time. I believe that she threw in some Spanish and French beratings in there too. She gave me more than an earful. The mumbling was an endless itch that could not be scratched.
Originally, I had not thought of killing her, but at this rate, I might forget why I should not take her life and just do it. This was taking too long.
At least she has to keep this under wrap for the next six years. Even the High Alpha cannot make her talk about this favor. Only a higher witch can pry the information from her head. By that time, I was sure to have Sianna by my side.
For now, Devyn has to act as my guardian and cannot harm me until those six years were up. Also for her safety, she would have to get another witch to act as her guardian to protect her from the High Alpha before the Supernatural Triad Council learns of this. This web of protection gave me time and I was desperate.
Black smoke fills the cave as the pot brews, then it abruptly reverts into the pot, clearing the cave of its presence. When that was done she puts the serum into a vial, speaking an incantation. She finally stops and the coldness in her eyes held my attention.
"What about the silver dagger to kill the High Alpha?" Since I was not powerful enough to kill him in a duel on my own, a spelled silver dagger that was prepared solely for that task will have to do.
Now the shortcoming was that spells always have some damn loophole. For instance, the spell on the dagger will last for thirty days. After that, it was absolutely useless.
She hands the dagger to me. It is quite the ordinary knife. There was nothing special about it. The regular wolf or person cannot discover the hidden spell on it. I take the knife and put it in my backpack.
Next, the vial was sealed and she puts it in my hand. "When you select the person whose blood you will draw, make sure that is the only time that you uncap the vial to add his blood to the serum. Seal the mouth of the vial and shake well. Allow it to soak for ten minutes before you apply it behind the ears. It works only within twenty-four hours after application." She withdraws her hand. "You must apply it daily after your bath so that you never lapse."
"You know, you can be a darling when you are not such a bitch," I crouched to my backpack and placed the vial in a safe compartment.
"Humph," her eyes revealed flares of rage.
Retaliating to my words, this time she throws the carved wood that she had used earlier. I dodge so that it missed. "Hey!" I shot her a warning.
"I never want to see your face again," Devyn yelled and used the fire to get rid of some of what she had brought into the cave. Burning them so that only their ash remained.
"You are contracted to help me for six years, even if it cost you your life since you owe your life to me." My arrogance got the better of me, "Don't you forget that."
"Fuck you!" She desperately wanted to hurt my feelings. "Because that would be if the High Alpha doesn't kill you first."
"We both know that if you betray me, the karma of the broken Wiccan law will torture you," I had to give her a reminder. "And that is a fate worst than death because it makes you live in your fears for eternity. Making you wish for a death that would not come."
She packed her little bag and stands with loathsomeness branded all over her. "This makes you and I sinners, Curtis. We will share the same fate." She walked up to me, jamming her fingers into my chest. "If you die before the end of the six-year period, my own life will be snatched from me. This shitty law of goodwill will kill me within hours, so stay the fuck alive."
Staying alive required using all my resources. For Sianna, I was prepared to die with honor by fighting for her. Nothing could convince me that she loved the Alpha. Everyone knew that he wanted a chosen Luna. He only married Sianna for her healing powers and no one could persuade me that it was not the truth.
Devyn and I left the cave. She had applied an invisible coat on me so that I walked in her shadow to get to the border, undetected. Digging into her pocket, she handed me a phone because I had none, and there was a very important call to be made.
"Untraceable?" I asked while looking at the android phone.
"Yes," she snickered.
I extended my right hand toward her with my palm upward. Questioningly, she glared at me.
"Money," I said. Of course, she knew that I had none.
Her glare got rigid and she bit down on her bottom lip in anger. She hissed, "Are you a sissy?"
Ignoring her vile words was my best choice, but her words did make me want to rip her to pieces. "I need enough to get by until I can contact my parents, now tell me that you have some money on you."
Digging into her pocket, she pulled out rolls of papers. Straightening them out, she gave me a few hundred dollars. "Sweet!" I exclaimed with much satisfaction. Despite her unwillingness and nasty attitude, Devyn had taken care of everything.
I kissed her left cheek in gratitude. She slapped my face and slammed her knee into my groin.
"You blasted witch." I wheezed out with my hands over my hurting crotch. That was unexpected. "Fucking bitch."
"You are welcome," she left me with a walking disability as she head back to her home. "I'm a fucking dead woman walking, because of you. Asshole!"
"Bye-bye zombie," I muttered, hoping that she heard me.
I shifted into my wolf and picked up the backpack into my mouth. I ran away from the Crimson Hyde Pack. My destination was the human town to get a hotel for some decent rest. There was one other person that I needed to see.
