86. A Starry Night

86. A Starry Night
Cindy

The outside world looked beautiful at night. I walked slowly from the packhouse to Reiss’ one. When I got there, instead of going inside, I wandered around the property for a bit. I looked up. The sky was clear, stars shining as if they saw a better future ahead.

The next thing I knew I was being pulled against the wall.

I didn’t fight back because I recognized those hands even in the dark. I glanced over my shoulder. I was right.

Glen stared back at me with something unrecognizable in his gaze. His hands settled around my waist.

“Glen, what are you doing-”

He held the curl of my jaw and kissed me.

Our lips connected with a smack sound. I was taken off guard but closed my eyes and got swept up in the moment.

Glen held me firmly against his body. He switched us so that I was leaning against the wall.

How many times did I imagine this happening when I was younger? I sank my fingers into his dark hair and gripped it. Glen bit my bottom lip. I moaned slightly. He kissed me deeper, pausing only momentarily to hold the back of my neck.

In his arms it’s as if the cold didn’t matter. His movements turned from harsh and passionate to slow and soft. It reminded me of the boy I grew up with. Maybe he was still that boy afterall.

We parted and looked into each other’s eyes. My head felt light, and so did the rest of my body.

“Is that okay?” He asked. I blinked twice then chuckled.

“You’re only asking me now?” I said.

He returned the laugh. “I wanted to kiss you at least once. Especially if I never get to in the future.”

I let my hands fall from him. I played with my fingers and glanced up at him through my lashes.

“Do you actually want me? Or do you want ‘this’? I don’t know, sometimes I can’t tell whether someone actually likes me for me and not because you’re being forced to by fate. I know how important mates are to wolves, so…”

He caressed the side of my neck with his thumb. With a gentle smile, he said, “If it was anyone else, I would be more hesitant. I always wanted someone that would be made just for me, that much is true. But even if you don’t belong to only me, I’m not disappointed in the least.”

I let out a sigh of relief. “Just… Tell me if you change your mind or feel any doubts or…”

“Cindy.” He touched both sides of my face. A thought seemed to cross his mind before he reluctantly asked, “Is that how you think Alpha reiss feels too? I swear if he gave you any reason to doubt him,, you can tell me. I might not be able to go head to head with him yet but I’m sure I can hire a few witches-”

I covered his mouth before he could incriminate himself. Who knows who was listening in? “It’s fine, I promise. He didn’t do anything to me. It’s more like the opposite. He’s been nothing but hospitable and kind. You saw how he reacted when you got here. He didn’t say anything rude, right?”

“Right, I guess.” He tilted his head. “He was cordial. Well, my promise still stands.”

I shook my head. “I really don’t need anyone’s blood on my hands. Much less one of my mates.”

“One of them?” He raised a brow teasingly. “Does that mean you accept me?”

I looked away shyly. “Did you have a nice dinner? Mrs Raid loves to make sure everyone knows how good she cooks.”

Glen laughed and kissed my cheeks.

“I’ll take that as a ‘yes’.”

Morning

I woke up the next day with a strange excitement in me. It was all consuming. I sat up in bed with a yawn. Beams of sunlight peeped through the gaps in the curtains.

By my right, Antonio laid sleeping soundly. I brushed some hair out of his face.

“I’m scared,” I admitted out loud. “But I’m not willing to walk away just yet. It’s us forever, if you’ll have me.”

I got out of bed and headed straight for the bathroom.

Fresh after washing off last night’s germs, I dressed up in orange overalls and a white long-sleeved shirt. My braids dropped freely down my back. I headed down the steps , then stopped midway. There was noise coming from the kitchen. Someone was there this early?

Carl should be returning today so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. With that in mind, I continued the rest of the way and entered the kitchen without letting him know I was near.

What I saw when I entered wasn’t Carl but Emery and Reiss. Emery sat at the island with a cup of coffee between her hands. Reiss wasn’t seated with her, but rather stood near the sink. A tang of jealousy surfaced before I stopped it. And pushed it down real deep. I had no idea what was happening so there’s no reason for me to feel jealous, plus, we never discussed whether or not Reiss could see someone else.

And I couldn’t see myself stopping him. Even if we got together way after they broke up, she had him first.

I forced myself to smile and wandered inside.

“Got any more left for me?” I asked, motioning to the coffee.

Reiss turned around to pour some right away. “Cream, sugar or without?”

“Both works just fine.”

I settled on the stool across from Emery. She didn’t say anything, just continued sipping from her cup.

“So~” I stretched my words, leaning back. “Am I interrupting something? Don’t pay me any mind. Just, please, no tongue in front of me.”

Reiss dropped the freshly poured cup of hot beverage onto the countertop while Emery laughed her ass off. I blushed, realization hitting me.

“I’m guessing that..?” I muttered under my breath, knowing full well they could hear me.

“No of course not!”

“No way!”

They said at the same time with Emery waving me off. “Jeez, is that what you dream of at night? Are you a cuck or something?”
