Chapter 43 43
Chapter 43 43
VALERIA'S POV
Was I being dramatic?
That was the first question that sprang from my mind but I walked out, giving her the exact reaction she sought.
When I turned around, I noticed Lucius behind me. I picked up a run. I don’t want him to see how pathetic I look I don’t want him to have a glimpse of my teary eyes. I don’t want to face him to answer the question “why?”
Why was I crying anyways? Was it because I was hella jealous that she was perfect and still welcomed by my mate? That was probably the most pathetic reason ever.
A true Luna wouldn’t just let her emotions take control of her judgment. He called me his Luna and she was quick to deflate that because she could see through me. She definitely knew I had no single property of being one. I was simply another woman on a quest to get to him who was just who I was to her. And instead of me standing my ground and proving her wrong like any person with true leadership quality would do, I was up and about running to get away from her like my behind was on fire. Nothing truly more pathetic!
“Vi!” I was so engrossed in my thought that I didn’t realize Lucius had caught up to me until he spoke, and before I could increase my pace to get away from him, he held my hand and pulled me towards himself.
“Come on Vi, what is the matter?” On a normal day, the nickname could have made me fold and give in, but not tonight I was filled with so much fury and sadness that I could barely feel any other emotion. I didn’t respond to this question so he added. “ I just turned around and saw you dashing out of the room with no warning. Tell me what happened.”
When he looked down at my face and saw just his not ready I wanted to talk to him he pleaded. “Please, what happened?”
Realizing he wouldn’t let this go if I didn’t answer, I muttered. “I just….wanted to be alone for a while if you don't mind.” My voice trembled as I spoke. He started my peace silently, refusing to let go of my chin when I attempted to look away.
“You are crying.” He pointed out the obvious, using his hand to wipe away my teary cheek.
“Camilla was your lover?” I decided to move the conversation away from me.
He sighed. “I knew she would bring that up. She was an ex-lover. We did have history in the past I am not going to lie and tell you that we didn't. But for the life of me, it is in the past now. It has been in the past for decades. You shouldn't be disturbed by it.”
“Well, she doesn't look like she has it in her past. In fact, she felt very happy rubbing it on my face.” I fired back trying to get myself out of his hold. He refused to let go.
“Listen, Camilla had a reputation for bullying. If you keep letting her get to you, you are going to continue putting yourself in a nasty mood and that will very well affect our relationship. I don’t want that and neither do you, so do not let Camilla get to you.”
He was absolutely right. I sighed deeply. “She just….she’s everything anyone would want in a woman. It is not as easy overlooking what she does, especially with how excited you both are when you saw her.”
“She’s the only remaining companion I have, so it’s only fair that the part of me that is connected to her feels excited seeing her. It is plain and simple. And to Axel, she is a very good friend. Her absence had affected him in so many ways and it was almost logical that he was delighted to have her back again, after almost believing that she had died. You don’t have to get it mixed up and complicated. I will try as much as I can to avoid her if that is what will calm you down.”
“I will never ask you to avoid someone who is your friend.” I shook my head, another series of tears escaping my eyes. This must be the shitty pregnancy hormone as I was never the type to cry all around the palace.
“I will never intentionally make you sad.” He mumbled, his frown still evident. “If keeping my distance from Camilla is what will keep you at ease, then I will gladly comply.”
“No.” I insisted. “I was just being dramatic and I blame the pregnancy for that. It is absolutely okay to have exes and to keep a civil relationship with them, especially if you consider the fact that they were your friend first before any other thing.”
He nodded but still didn't let go of me. We were in the middle of the hallway, under the watchful eyes of stationed guards but he didn't seem to mind one bit.
“She doesn't think I am fit to be a Luna around here and I think she is right.” I chuckled, although nothing about it was funny. But it was either that or I ended up crying again.
“Camilla is a bully, I would say that again. Nothing that came out of her mouth should find a place in your heart. I choose you, and I know absolutely well what a Luna material looks like than she ever would. Because I am the Alpha for decades. Don’t ever let her get to you, understood?”
I nodded, grateful for the fact that he understood my nagging and didn't just dismiss it like I initially thought he would.
I still hate her though, even more than before.
