Chapter 41 41
Chapter 41 41
VALERIA'S POV
Life's been relatively calm days after the dramatic arrest of the mole and I was just caught up by the relentless routine of just waking up, eating healthy, going on a few walks to help my pregnancy, and spending some time with my mate and sometimes Axel, which I actually do enjoy. The only thing of worry was Licius' wound, which was taking forever to heal but the healers pointed out that it must have been from the effect of the enchantment-coated sword but they believe it will heal up in due time. Plus, he was his usual active self so there was no call for worry.
Or so I thought. Until the afternoon she arrived.
I was seated in the courtyard, taking a rest between my walks and silently chewing on an apple when I heard the commotion from outside. I thought it was a commotion, but when my interest peaked at me and I pulled myself up to go see for myself what was going on, I realized it wasnt a commotion. It was some sort of celebration. Which made no sense to me.
Guards and maids alike had gathered around someone in the middle and were raining praises and words of celebration and welcome on them. I waited patiently to have a glimpse of who it was. I thought it was Lucius but the person looked too short to be.
When they finally cleared up enough for me to have a better glimpse, something stuck in my throat, and for a few moments, I literally had a hard time breathing. I choked on the piece of apple I was meant to swallow.
It was a woman.
The most gorgeous one I have ever seen. The drop dead and buried six feet below kind of attractiveness. She looked like she created herself. Even if she created herself, this is as far as she could go. Everything was perfect to a fault.
From her honey coloured hair, her symmetrically perfect facial features, her long neck, her curved hips, and the legs that follow below that. I have never been this carried away by beauty. She knew what she carried and very much welcomed the worship and praises around her. A woman who was attractive and knew damn well that she was.
"Who is she?" I found myself mumbling to no one in particular. But someone beside me responded, probably a maid, I didn't bother looking because I was so focused on finding a flaw in this strange woman.
"You don't know who this is? You don't know the only female Lycan left on earth? Where have you been all your life? Under a rock or something?"
Though rude, none of her words were enough to make me look away from the sight before me. The said female Lycan had her hand tightly around the sword on her waist. Though, looking pleasantly impressed by how welcomed she was, she definitely looked super aware of her surroundings, as though she was down to earth ready for any attack that would come to her mid celebration, hence the hand on the sword.
I don't know how long I stood there, I have no idea how long the shouts of celebration lasted. I just knew it ended when Axel stepped out of the palace toward the main entrance, carrying on his face the biggest, if not the only genuine smile I have seen on his face since he came here. And that smile, was directed at her.
Something in my chest fell to my stomach, and rose to my throat at the same time. I tried to swallow the lump but it was too hard to, or perhaps my mouth was just too dry to do that.
He knew her, he was happy to see her, which equally meant Lucius did too.
"I would have never expected..." His words died down as he engulfed her in a friendly hug. I know a friendly hug, don't ask me how. She stood tall but he was a few inches taller and that gave him the advantage of ruffling her hair messily.
She doesn't seem to mind. "I heard you two have reunited after a while and I thought it would be epic to show up to this reunion. I couldn't miss it for anything."
Her voice, heavens. Nothing about this woman was flawed. It would be a lost cause trying to find anything nasty about her. She was fucking perfect to a fault.
Axel laughed loudly, tossing her head backward in a carefree manner all the while still holding her. "There has never been a better surprise. For the fucking life of me, I thought you were dead or something. Not even my trackers could track your location. Guess you have gotten progressively better at covering your tracks.”
“What can I say?” She shrugged in the most ladylike manner I have ever seen. “I learn from the best.”
“Right.” He nodded in agreement. “Come in, I bet the council will be delighted to hear of your return.”
“You know I am not here to see the council or impress them for that matter.” She sighed and dropped her head on his shoulder as he slowly guided her toward the entrance of the palace.
“Right? I can't tell you how he would react, but I also cannot wait to see how that will turn out.”
The Axel I knew would rather plunge out his teeth with his bare hands than have a woman anywhere that close to him. I guess I don't know as much as I thought I did.
I waited until they disappeared into the palace, the maids and guards trailing behind them dreamily, before turning to the nearest maid to me. “Who do you say she is again?”
“The only female Lycan in existence. She used to live around her, then one day she just disappeared. Rumors have it that she died. You can imagine the shock of finding out she is actually alive.” She was literally hopping excitedly into the air as she spoke.
I looked her dead in the eyes as I responded. “No, I don't.”
I don't like that bitch.
