Chapter 39 39

Chapter 39 39
LUCIUS’S POV

“Your Highness…” Her voice cracked as she spoke.

I tilted my head and stared at her with lazy interest, I was trying to decipher why. What was she getting out of this? She wasnt a high-ranking officer, barely making it into the warriors' clan, shitty battle skills, easily passed for a maid, and many more downgrading qualities but she still chose disloyalty. How much more shitty could she get?

I sighed and looked away toward the numerous papers scattered around me. I hate paperwork, and god bless her soul she was already adding to the stress of that. “I am just going to ask you a single question.” I cleared my throat as I dipped the quill into the ink pot and began to write on the thick paper. “Why?”

“Your Highness I deeply apologize for…”

“Why?” I inquired again, keeping the pent-up anger within my facade. I would hate to lose it for something as mere as a loser.

“I….they…..I was forced. They blackmailed me.”

“They blackmailed you? Blackmailed?” I couldn't help but chuckle. “Indulge me, how the heck were you blackmailed. What do they have against you? Tell me.” I folded my hands and stared at her, losing interest in my writing for a few moments.

“I….they tricked me into this. I never wanted to do this I swear. Your Highness you have to listen to me, they tricked me into doing this.”

“Now is tricked huh? Tell me now you were tricked, I would love to have an Insight into the whole matter.”

“Your Highness.” Tears streamed down her cheek as she stared at me. She might not know what would befall her, but she knew something for sure, she was fucked up bad. She called that upon herself. “Please grant mercy, I will live the rest of my life serving you and correcting my mistake. I am but a mere confused woman trying to make a living. Please have mercy for once your Highness, please.” Even though she was pleading, she sounded hopeless, because she knew there was no hope to cling to.

Betrayed die, there is simply no way around it.

“You not only provide them with information about my fucking pack, you guided them into my palace, showed them to the room my mate sleeps, and watched them try to kidnap her. And you expect mercy. Tell me, what part of what you did conveyed the same mercy you are asking for? Just fish out a single part where you showed mercy and I might grant you that same mercy you asked for.”

On a normal day, I would have slayed her in no time, but I was bored, plus I wanted to make sure I trace out every bit of information from her first. As far as I was concerned, there might be others like her, and the best way to figure it out in not from interviewing her. I could get my hands on the information in another way but this way is the easiest.

“I…..I made sure he promised not to kill her before I agreed to do this. He only claimed she was his best friend and being here was the last thing she wanted to do. He was miserable having to be separated from her and….and I couldn't bear watching that.” She shook her head vigorously as though the mere thought of the state he was in caused her disarray.

“You aimed to have my mate abducted, just so you could give her to a best friend?” It doesn't even seem logical. “What about the misery I will be immersed in if I find out she was kidnapped. Did you take a moment to look into that?”

She didn't. The way her face fell after my question told me that she never did.

“What did he promise you in return?” I sighed as I asked the question. It’s very clear that there is more to this than she is letting out.

“Your Highness?” Her eyes widened.

“Do I have to fucking repeat myself? What the fuck did he promise you in return if you get the job well done for him?” It simply cannot be her empathy. I need to know what my pack members have been lured with. What have I not provided for them that will actually make them pull through with treason?

She kept mum, shivering and sweating profusely.

“You are going to open your fucking mouth and speak because your fucking silence is getting on my damn nerves.” I calmly brought out my sword and laid it out in front of her. She doesn't need to be cleared on that. She has been trained before.

“I just don't think she is worthy of being your mate.” She muttered, staring straight ahead, her tears already dried. The bitch knew her tears wouldn't take her anywhere.

“And that answered my question?” I wanted to make sure we were on the right track. She doesn't seem to be playing any sort of mind games but I still don't understand where she was going with the words.

“He said….he is going to take her away from you. That alone was enough reason for me to act. I wanted her away from you and he offered that.”

I laughed softly. “I thought I had trained you well when it comes to bargaining. You couldn't even ask for anything tangible for yourself.” That really made me furious. “You committed treason against your pack in return for what? Nothing. And then at the end, you are caught. You got nothing out of this. What a shame.” I scoffed.

I snapped my hand and the guards strolled in almost immediately. “Take her to the dungeon. The only reason I am not ending your miserable life right now and here is because I didn't get to kill your sponsor.”

I might be a killer but I do kill with fairness. And in this case, utmost fairness is what I am going to offer. Let me get my hand on the real fucker first.
