Chapter 35 35

Chapter 35 35

VALERIA’S POV

I could only breathe again after Max had banged the door behind him. I listened from within as the sound of sword clashing quieted down and finally reduced to silence, indicating that they must have left. Slowly, I retreated toward the bed, my back to it until my legs buckled as they touched the bed and I fell back into a seating position.

“That’s a scene.” I have completely forgotten about the company of the so-called warrior until she spoke. Lazily, I turned my head toward her, she had her eyes set on me but her hands were stretched outward, pointing in the general direction where Max and I had stood minutes ago.

“Get out.” Still staring dead into her eyes, I spoke.

“No I can't do that, The king forbade me from leaving you all by yourself, especially not in terms like this, when the palace is in a state of unrest.” She stubbornly planted her feet to the ground and stared at me too.

“I said get the hell out of my room.” I wanted to yell, but my voice came out as a mere whisper. I was too shaken by what had just happened to shout. I couldn't bring myself to talk any louder than that.

“You know him?” She changed the route of the conversation as though what I was saying made not a single sense to her. “You literally know the attacker who attacked the palace. And what is he talking about taking you with him? What was that?”

I didn't bother responding. I merely turned my attention away from her, back to my reality. I knew Max. If he dares to come in here to get me, he isn't going to stop just there despite my warning. He is going to try to do it again and again until his stupid ass gets himself killed because I knew he wouldn't succeed.

I need to find a way to get him to stop this madness before someone gets hurt in the process.

“You have to tell the King about this. You are going to tell him right? But first, you have to tell me who that is to you? How did you know him? Are you like….” She joined her fingers together. “Lovers or something…”

“No!” I couldn't help but respond to that. “He is my fucking best friend can you shut up and let me think for a moment?”

She didn't. “Your best friend?” She looked toward the door with longing, as if she wished she could bring him back here and speak directly to him. “He mentioned a power….are you….is he….what was….but you are going to inform the Alpha right? You know the attacker.” She was literally rambling by now, her words were making no sense to me.

I have no idea when Lucius would return but I need to find a way to convince Max to move away from here before he returns. He had to leave.

“Do you need anything?”

“Can you leave me the fuck alone for a moment! I fucking need to think things through damn it!” I pulled myself off the bed and trailed toward the balcony, wanting nothing but to get away from her.

She was quiet for a while, but she did follow behind me silently. I could feel the weight of her gaze as I pondered over my next move. What the heck would anyone do in a situation like this? Follow Max away from here just so I could protect him from getting his ass handed to him? Or stay back here where my peace lies and let Max make a decision for himself as he was nothing but a grown adult.

The latter seemed more logical but I could never do that to Max. Not when I held him so dear to my heart despite what he has done numerous times.

I will try to convince him out of this. That is the only way out. He said he will be hanging around the pack, I will try to find him and talk to him with anger out of the way

When I finally nodded to myself, satisfied with my decision, the nuisance beside me was already filled with other questions, ready to unleash them on me.

“You realize that you will have to tell the King about this encounter right? Even if it means ratting on your best friend and shit?”

I didn't respond, I walked back into the room, toward the tray of food that had since gone cold. I picked the jar of water and sipped directly from it instead of pouring it out into a cup.

“Attacking the Lycan Kingdom is one thing, but getting the nerve to surge into the palace and attack? Now that’s something the king cannot and will not ignore. You know that right?”

Again she was met with my silence.

“And to complicate the entire thing, he is your best friend, here to abduct you, take you away from the King. If that isn't a capital offence, I have no idea what else is. You need to tell the King, he needs to be heavily punished for his crimes.”

She is going to be a challenge. I wasn't planning on letting Lucius find out about Max. I wouldn't do that. Not unless I wished a death sentence on Max. Which is exactly what I am trying to avoid at this moment.

“Can you do me a favour?” I finally turned to face her, keeping my expression as neutral as possible.

“I have to do what you instruct me anyway, even if I want to or not. The King said to make sure of that.” She rolled her eyes.

“Great.” I smiled. “Then you are going to shut your messed-up mouth, you are not going to tell Lucius or anyone for that matter about Max unless I do so myself.”

“And if I don’t?”

“Then Lucius would sure as heck hear about how you heroically saved me during the attack.”

“Such a bitch!”

“Such.” I laughed at her frustration.
