Chapter 51 ~A dangerous mission~

Chapter 51 ~A dangerous mission~

(Yara's POV)

I don't know how Calvin was able to convince me to come to school today, but yeah… here I was.

And yes, my best friend was still missing, which was eating me up more than I'd like to admit.

It was the fact that I was helpless about the whole situation that got to me the most.

Was she kidnapped? Captured by rogues? Was she alive?

Not knowing for sure… having no clue was like walking blindly. Would I be told tomorrow that her corpse was found somewhere?

A shiver ran down my spine at the thought.

It was funny how, within such a short period of time, she'd grown on me so much. On all of us, to be honest.

Alpha Xander always said something, ‘To know Fiona, is to love her’ and boy was he right.

‘Dammit!’ I wiped the tear that had escaped from my left eye.

A bad bitch can't be caught crying in the school's hallway. Seriously, it was social suicide.

I needed to just make it through the day. I'd be counting every minute till it was the close of school day.

I saw ‘the three plastics’ —like Fiona calls them —approaching from the other side of the hallway.

Jasmin must have noticed me because she began waving and briskly walking in my direction.

Seriously, I wasn't about to deal with them today.

I looked at my right-hand side.

Great!

A door.

I opened the door and entered to avoid them.

Where the fuck was this?

It looked like a semi-constructed girl's bathroom. I walked even further in the dark, musty room that smelt of concrete and werewolves… wait!

Werewolves.

I hid in the corner immediately I noticed the scent and voices. Apparently, I wasn't the only one in here.

I heard a shrill laughter from the stall.

It was a female. A vaguely familiar voice.

What were they talking about? They should be in class.

I kept quiet and eavesdropped on their conversation.

There was another loud cackle. “Seriously, I can't wait.”

“It's turning out exactly like we predicted.”

Instantly, my curiosity was piqued.

What were they talking about?

The first voice spoke again. “She's so done for. Beckett is definitely out for her this time. She won't survive it.”

Beckett? Of Ashridge pack?

So these were members of Ashridge pack, but who were they talking about?

“She tried escaping last night through the love garden exit, but Gamma Horace caught her.”

The other person tutted. “How were you even friends with such a dumb bitch in the first place? She tried escaping and even that she couldn't do it right.”

“I wonder what they're still keeping her for. Alpha seems to buy the rogues’ claim that she has the last bloodline of the mad Lycan king.”

I peeked through a hole in the wall to look at them closely. I knew the brunette; we shared AP biology class. I couldn't remember her name… maybe Casy, the other girl, I couldn't recognise.

She laughed sarcastically. “Of course, that's a lie! Who the fuck will believe that except for Alpha? The girl is so worthless. She's the weakest Luna I've ever seen.”

So they were trying to sabotage their Luna, Alpha Beckett's mate… right?

I was so confused.

But then again, it was none of my business.

I turned to leave and heard the words that left my legs rooted to the ground.

“She won't get past tonight. Fiona is already dead for all I care.”

Shock had me staggering backwards.

What! Fio-

The dots were suddenly connecting. Beckett was the one who captured Fiona.

How the fuck did that not cross my mind?

And the girl was Cassia… Fiona's former best friend she told me about. No wonder she looked so familiar.

With shaky legs, I quietly left the bathroom before they discovered me.

I ran through the hallway, clashing into people, and I almost fell down.

Finally, I arrived at the parking lot and sped my car to Nightfang.

Alpha Xander needed to hear this.

–-----

(Xander's POV)

That was odd.

I was contemplating going to school or not.

I looked out of the window overlooking the front yard and saw Yara's car pulling up to the driveway.

She must have been going 110 mph.

I walked out of my room and mindlinked Calvin.

‘I think you should come downstairs,’

‘Just got out of the shower. I'll be down in a sec.’

By the time I got down, Yara was panting. She looked like she'd seen a ghost.

“What's the problem?” I was also getting agitated now.

“I- Fi..” She looked out of breath. “Fiona was kidnapped by Beckett, and they're planning to execute her tonight!”

It seemed my brain was booting.

Finally, words tumbled out of my mouth. “What the fuck! How did you find out?”

“I saw some members of Ashridge talking about it.” She was ashen. Her eyes blazed.

What do I do?

I mindlinked my father, Alpha Varon, Luna Jacqueline… heck, everyone in this fucking Pack.

We needed to get as much help as we could.

“What are we going to do?” Yara asked.

–-----

My father was looking at me like I'd gone insane.

Luna Jacqueline and alpha Varon had cold expressions on their faces.

“So I release my warriors to go guns a’ blazing to Ashridge to save your mate.” Alpha Varon laughed maniacally.

“There must be another way.” My father stated.

“I'm going back to bed.” Luna Jacqueline rolled her eyes and went in.

“We'll have a council meeting and decide how to go about it.”

“She's going to be killed soon!” Yara yelled.

“Well, she should have known that when she left Nightfang on the night of a full moon.” Alpha Varon retorted. “I'm not releasing my warriors for a blind mission and that's final!”

“What if this was your daughter, Nova?” I spoke in an appeal. “What would you say, then?"

A look flashed across his face. He knew I was right.

But of course, it was all a punishment for me never mating Nova.

He cleared his throat and walked away.

Calvin mindlinked me. ‘We might have to go by ourselves.’

‘That's the only option.’ I nodded. We'd brave it and whatever the outcome was, at least we tried.

Yara joined in on the mindlink. ‘I'm coming along and nothing you both say will change that.’

‘Tonight?’ I clarify.

‘Tonight.’ They both responded with firm looks on their faces.

–------

Yara was shaking me vigorously.

When did I fall asleep?

I was still dazed but I slowly tried to regain full consciousness. “Yara… what's it?”

It was already evening by the view from the window.

“Who is Inspector Chadwick?”

All traces of sleep cleared instantly. “Why? What's…”

“He's downstairs with a couple of other cops, and they're demanding to take you for questioning.”

“What?”

She nudged me. “Calvin is stalling them. We have to leave for Ashridge now!”

Instantly, I got up and we walked towards the window.

I looked at Yara. “And Calvin?”

“He'll join us later.”

I looked down from the window.

It was at least 30 feet.

I looked at Yara. “Are you ready?”
