Chapter 189 Chapter 189
Chapter 189 Chapter 189
(Fiona's POV)
“Tell me it's not true!” I said, shaking my head in disbelief as I stared at the one person I considered my sister. And a man whom I'd loved so much. A man I called a teacher and a Mentor.
“Well done, diligent servants of the dark lord,” The king of the Thrall beamed, his eyes shining obsidian. “You have brought my queen home.”
“This must be some sort of mistake. Thi… This is a trick, like the one at the woods,” I resisted the urge to slap myself until I was sure I wasn't dreaming. “I can't fall for this!”
Valkyr, who was not dressed in a long red robe, his eyes painted with black ink laughed out loud, and moving past me, he stopped at the foot of the throne to the shadow king, going on his knees and bowing low. “Your majesty.”
I moved toward Ziva to shake her. She must be under the influence of a spell. “Ziva, this is not you.”
“You're right in some ways, Fiona,” she smirked, then I watched her dissolve into a puff of smoke and slowly morph into a large thrall with deep emerald eyes.
I stumbled backward, almost tripping as The thrall spoke through the mindlink in a masculine voice. “This is my true nature.”
This was the closest thing I'd felt to a heart attack. “Who are you?”
“That is Nightbane,” The shadow king answered my question. “My most trusted Thrall.”
“You… you're a demon?” I stared at the large Thrall as it transformed back into the figure that I knew to be Ziva.
“Yes, Fiona,” It giggled.
‘It!’ Was there ever a time I suspected I would call my friend an it?
“You are so gullible to ever believe for once that I was your friend,” Ziva said. “It was there, glaring in your face all the while and yet, you couldn't see it.”
I don't understand.
“I killed Soraya, Fiona,” Ziva said. “That night she tried to restore our lost friendship, I sent the shadow demon that killed her.”
“You did what?” I screamed at the top of my lungs.
“Yes, I led them to her,” Ziva walked closer to me and I walked backward. “You know, initially I was sceptical that you were the lost Tribrid, but my king thought you had enormous powers.”
My mind flashed back to the ‘body shaming comment’. Of course it was too little a case for her to completely ignore me for weeks. “You stopped talking to me because you thought I was useless!”
Ziva nodded. “Yes. The only reason why I was friends with you in the first place was because I had a mission to find a queen. Then I saw how powerless, and weak and emotional you were, and I thought, you know, maybe she really isn't the one.”
I turned to Valkyr, finally connecting the dots. “And that is where you came in. You pretended to care about my wolf. You pretended to want to help me. You made me trust you until I gave you power over me.”
“You know, you're almost as stupid as Principal Winston,” Valkyr said, chuckling darkly. “A stranger comes to you and introduces himself as a professor that studied about Tribrids and not one did she run a background check, or ask herself how I knew Wintercrest had a Tribrid.”
He continued. “And you, poor little Fiona who needed attention as much as possible, jumped into my arms, and I helped awaken your red wolf.”
“Awaken my wolf?” I asked, confused. I had never shifted.
Valkyr and Sabel cackled loudly. “You were granted the ability to shift that day, but of course, you were too dumb and too believing when I told you that you were not ready to.”
I could shift into my wolf all this while?
I closed my eyes, trying hard to concentrate and shift.
“Not in this realm, pretty child,” The King of the Thrall spoke. “Here, there's no light, only darkness.”
I stared at Valkyr who seemed pretty pleased with himself. How did I not connect the dots?
He knew a little too well about creatures, and was always luring me to danger. Heck, he lured me to this place. Helping me have my first shift for callous reasons.
My mind flashed back to the time Xander and I confronted him about Black Hollow. The look in his eyes when Xander said we knew everything.
“So, I began monitoring you, manipulating situations, providing reports to the shadow king,” Valkyr said.
The scoundrel!
I was too ashamed of myself.
“Why did you just kill me when you had the chance?”
“Kill you?” Valkyr looked perplexed. “Now why would I want to do that to my queen? The dark side needs you.”
I would never be their queen.
“You're a demon too?” I asked Valkyr.
“No,” he smirked darkly. “Just someone who really likes to be on the winning team.”
I shook my head in utter disbelief.
This was a nightmare. I would wake up tomorrow on my bed at Wintercrest Academy and go to class with Soraya and Ziva while we giggled about boys with toned abs.
I let out a loud shout that rippled through the castle. Many obsidian eyes staring me down.
