Chapter 7 Nothing Else
“I know.” Russell nodded, turning to face the Beta.
“Just do as I have instructed, Marcus. This stays between us, no one has to know.” He was done talking, and even though the Beta still had curiosity lingering inside him, he couldn’t ask any other question.
So he nodded, left with no other option.
"I will see what I can find, Russell.”
“Good.” The Alpha nodded, then his attention was drawn by the footsteps he heard behind him.
The Beta had already seen Nelly walking into the living room before him.
“I didn’t know you had a guest.” He muttered, turning to face the Alpha with a wry smile.
Russell cleared his throat, but the clog was still intact.
“She is here to work, Marcus. I couldn’t go to the office.”
“I see.” Marcus sniggered, stealing a glance at Nelly.
“I hope she does her work well, Alpha Russell.” He sneered at the Alpha, pushing himself up from the couch.
His eyes met Nelly’s, and he grunted.
“Hello, Nelly.” A smirk spread across his face, and then a snicker followed.
“I didn’t know that you now had special duties for the Alpha.”
Nelly sighed, halting in her steps.
She rolled her eyes secretly at the Beta, then she forced a smile.
“Greetings, Beta Marcus.” She slowly turned to the Alpha, but it seemed like only his body was present, and not his mind.
Slowly, she returned her gaze to the Beta, contempt etched on her face.
“I only came to see if the Alpha was done with his meeting with Elder Alfred. I will just leave and come back later.”
“There will be no need for that,” Marcus responded before she could leave.
“I was already on my way out before you arrived.” He chuckled softly, and after a while, he continued.
“You can carry on with the work you have with the Alpha. I am sure you have been doing wonderfully well.”
“Hmm.” Nelly spread her feigned smile across her lips, nodding without discarding it.
She stared as the Beta walked away, whistling a familiar tune.
The moment Marcus slammed the door, she sighed heavily, feeling like a heavy burden had been lifted off her shoulders.
“Why does it seem like the Beta doesn’t like me?” She turned to Russell, hoping to get a response.
The Alpha sighed softly, shifting his gaze to her.
“Why does it suddenly matter if Marcus likes you or not?”
“Because we are together, Alpha Russell,” Nelly remarked, desperation smeared on her face.
Russell huffed, grabbing the cup of coffee from the table.
He took a sip while Nelly watched him silently.
“My dear Nelly.” He stood up slowly, holding onto the saucer and the cup in both hands.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself.” His voice was low, but his words sounded both as a warning and advice.
Then he leaned closer to Nelly, aiming to whisper into her ear.
“You are just a weak human I turned into a werewolf. You warmed my bed, and nothing more.”
Nelly gasped, staring at the Alpha with wide eyes.
“How could you say that to me, Alpha Russell?” She searched for remorse in Russell’s eyes, but found none.
His countenance was cold, unreadable, and subjugating.
Nelly sighed heavily, but her breath was still quivering.
“Is that the only thing you see me as?” She was meant to have gotten used to the Alpha’s coldness, but that one stung harder, thrusting through her heart.
Russell took another sip from the cup of coffee, and then he smacked.
“Tell them to add more sugar next time, Nelly. You can go home, we are done.” He walked away slowly, almost brushing Nelly aside.
She was forced to stare at him while he sauntered away.
“But I want more.” She muttered, sniffling to suppress her tears.
She felt a sharp pain in her heart, anger brewing inside her.
“Who is she?” She muttered, reminded of the strange lady she met earlier.
“Could she…” She couldn’t finish, fighting the urge to admit that she was about to be replaced.
“Alpha Russell is mine and mine alone.” She growled, nodding with red eyes.
Meanwhile, Russell walked to Mia’s room.
He knocked after standing in front of the door for a few seconds.
There was no response, prompting him to knock again, this time he made it louder.
“I am coming in.” He grabbed the handle and pulled, but the door was locked from the inside.
“Mia?” He called out, listening silently.
“Mia? Are you in there?” He asked, but silence was all he met.
Letting go of the handle, he took a deep breath, shaking his head with a deadpan expression.
“What have I gotten myself into?” He tutted, turning around to walk away.
The strange feeling brewed inside him, crawling inside him as he sensed what seemed like defeat, laced with remorse.
But he had only taken a few steps when he heard the clicking sound, drawing his instant attention.
He stopped, returned to the door, and waited.
“What do you want?” Mia asked as soon as she opened the door wide enough for her eyes to see the Alpha.
She still had that hatred burning in her eyes, accompanied by the eagerness to slam the door to his face.
Russell cleared his throat, in search of the most suitable word.
“May I come in?”
“No,” Mia replied rudely, feeling not even the smallest ounce of remorse.
“Please.” Russell persisted, his eyes begging for a chance.
Mia grunted, consideration forcing itself into her the more she looked into the Alpha’s eyes.
Russell’s orbs were crimson and fiery, but they had this crazy effect on her.
More like an irresistible affliction that she couldn’t fight.
Eventually, she opened the door wider, letting the Alpha come in.
“Thank you,” Russell whispered, but it seemed like Mia hated even the sound of his voice.
She rolled her eyes at him, letting go of the handle.
“I hope you are not here to talk about your escapades with your mistress.” She remarked, walking up to the bed.
