Chapter 39 The Drift
Her low growl intensified, her canines glittering under the rays of the sunlight.
Olsen begged for mercy, he pleaded for his life, yet she refused to budge.
Marcus moved his gaze to Mia, and seeing the rage that engulfed her, he was forced to inch closer to the Alpha, his eyes sparking with concern.
“I think you should stop her, Russell. She is going to kill him!”
“I know.” Russell nodded, but when he attempted to make a move, the sudden feeling that gripped him seemed like it was pinning him to the ground.
Eventually, the Alpha was able to pull through, getting close to Mia.
“I think that’s enough, Mia.” He said quietly, reaching for Mia’s shoulder.
The moment his hand came a contact with her shoulder, Mia turned to face him, snarling with her eyes still burning with rage.
Russell took a deep breath, his eyes staring cautiously.
“It is me, Mia. Let him go.” He insisted, his voice barely above a whisper.
Mia grunted, fighting the voices inside her head.
The veins all over her body contorted, her heart beating like it was about to explode.
Again, she grunted, feeling the raw strength that simmered through her nerves.
Finally, she let go of Olsen, letting him drop with a heavy thud.
He blacked out instantly, blood trickling from his neck.
Mia staggered backward, but before she could fall, Russell caught her, getting down on one knee.
She sighed heavily, her eyes slowly returning to normal.
“She is too strong, Russell.” She whispered, almost drained of all her strength.
“Lysandra is too strong, Russell.” She collapsed in the Alpha’s bosom, and he quickly carried her into the castle, straight to his chamber.
Mia lay still on the bed, her breath stabilized after a while.
The Alpha sat beside her and watched for a few minutes before he stood up and walked away.
Marcus remained outside, waiting patiently for him, and hoping that he was going to come back.
As soon as the Beta saw the Alpha approaching, he hurried to him, eyes bulging like they were about to crawl out of their sockets.
“What was that, Russell? All of that rage!” He stood waiting for a while, yet the Alpha said nothing.
“She almost killed him, Russell.” He continued when he realized that Russell was never going to say anything.
“I watched her try to snuff life out of Olsen. What if she killed him? What would you have said to his uncle?”
“But she didn’t, did she?” Russell cut him short at once, his voice calm and composed.
Marcus scoffed, his eyes sparking with disbelief.
“I can’t believe you.” He muttered, watching as the Alpha walked passed him.
“Where are you going?”
“To them…” Russell pointed to Olsen and his cohorts, taking a deep breath.
“We still haven’t given them their punishment, remember?” He increased his pace without looking at the Beta.
Marcus took a deep breath, and instantly, he went after the Alpha.
His eyes shifted to Olsen, staring at his still body.
He almost thought he was dead until he saw his fingers move.
The Beta sighed heavily, and then he returned his eyes to the Alpha, awaiting his pronouncement.
Ethan and Chiron were both enveloped by the silence that had lingered for a while, thickening the air with an enormous tension.
Their bodies couldn’t stop shivering, their throats unable to contain the hot saliva that they forced down.
The Alpha cleared his throat, and that was enough to surge terror into them, their hearts beating like racing horses.
“You two are very lucky that Olsen has suffered greatly for what the three of you have done.” Russell paused, but his flaming eyes were yet to stop glowing.
He moved his eyes from Ethan to Chiron, growling in contempt.
“For your punishment, the three of you…” He paused again, suspense hanging in the air.
His eyes moved to Olsen, and after staring at him for a few seconds, he returned his gaze to the other two.
“You shall be involved in voluntary services to the two clans that ran to us for refuge and protection. I don’t know how you are going to do it, but you shall pick one of them, and make sure that they lack nothing throughout the period of their stay in our territory.”
Russell never spoke about the repercussions of not obeying his words, but his aura was threatening, forcing Ethan and Chiron to nod.
They were glad that they were going to keep their lives, hoping that the sweatballs all over them were going to dry up.
“Take them out.” The Alpha said to the guards who picked them up and forced them out.
Olsen was the last to be carried away, his hands dangling as the guards moved him out of the castle.
Marcus continued staring until Olsen and the guards were out of sight, and then he sighed heavily, turning to the Alpha.
“You know that this is going to cause a little drift between you and Olsen’s uncle, right?”
“I know, Marcus.” Russell nodded with a wry smile, turning to face the Beta.
Marcus searched for even the smallest ounce of nervousness in the Alpha’s eyes, but he found none.
“I am the Lycan King, Marcus. When that time comes, I will remind Elder Elias that I command this entire territory, and dealing with him shouldn’t make me sweat.”
Marcus sighed without looking away from the Alpha.
Several thoughts were running through his mind, but none was more powerful than the anger that he saw buried deep inside the Alpha’s eyes.
“Go and get everything we need for the claiming ceremony ready.” He concluded, returning to the Castle at once.
Marcus grunted, shaking his head slowly.
“I hope he knows what he is doing.” He whispered, his voice laden with worry.
Taking out his phone from his pocket, he made a call, pressing the phone against his right ear.
“The Alpha is planning on claiming Mia.” He whispered, looking around to be certain he was alone.
“Something has to be done at once.” He said calmly, and then he ended the call, taking a deep breath.
