Chapter 19 I can’t!
“You can’t stay.” Mia gave a quick response, staring into the Alpha’s eyes.
She attempted to open the door, but the Alpha stopped her at once.
Russell released her hand from the handle of the door, pushing closer to her.
Mia staggered backward and continued moving until the wall stopped her.
The Alpha was still inching closer, looking her in the eyes as he marched forward.
Mia stuttered, “What…” She didn’t even realize that her lips were moving, yet no words could be heard.
Her heart was beginning to beat faster, especially from the moment the Alpha stood just two inches away from her.
She could feel his breath, his eyes still staring into hers.
“You should leave, Alpha Russell.” Her voice was barely above a whisper, completely losing its grip.
Russell sighed. “Make me.” He retorted, fastening his right palm on the wall just above Mia’s head.
“You hate me so much for killing your parents that you want to kill me, isn’t it?” He waited for a response, but Mia didn’t look like she had any to give.
She just gulped down noisily, staring into the Alpha’s eyes.
“Please. Just leave.” She pleaded, unable to get rid of the sensation that gripped her.
Russell insisted on staying, fastening his other palm on the wall.
“I think I have the solution to this, Mia. I have a way for you to avenge the death of your parents.”
“How?” Mia asked, but she didn’t seem so much interested in getting a response.
Russell reached to his side, taking out a dagger with a golden handle crafted like a pyramid.
“Take it.” He forced the blade into Mia’s hand even when she refused to take it.
“You want revenge, right?”
Mia said nothing, she just looked at the dagger and cleared her throat, attempting to get rid of the clog that gripped her.
The Alpha lifted both hands, pushing his chest toward her.
“This is the opportunity for you to avenge the death of your parents, Mia. Push the dagger into my heart and I will gladly accept my fate.”
Mia thought that she could do it.
She tightened her grip on the dagger, and then she moved it closer to the Alpha’s chest, aiming for his heart.
“Go ahead!” Russell urged, holding onto his wry smile.
Mia’s breath became unstable, and just when she was about to thrust the dagger into the Alpha’s heart, her hand began to tremble.
She panted, lowering the dagger. “I can’t do it!” She cried out, tears falling from her eyes.
“I can’t do it!”
“Yes, you can.” Russell grabbed her hand, and then he pushed the dagger to his chest, piercing the first layer of his flesh.
Mia gasped. “What are you doing?!” She tried to move the dagger away, but the Alpha’s hold was too tight for her to break free.
Russell took a deep breath, looking her in the eyes.
Blood slowly dripped from his chest, staining the dagger.
It didn’t seem like he could feel any pain, his smile lingering.
“This is your chance to grant your parents peace in their graves, Mia. What are you waiting for?”
“I can’t!” Mia gasped, making another attempt to withdraw the dagger from the Alpha’s chest.
“Please, don’t make me do this!” She pleaded, her lips quivering.
“Why not?” The Alpha scoffed, holding tightly to her hand.
“Just one little push, and you will get your revenge. This is what you have always wanted, isn’t it?”
“No!” More tears fell from Mia’s eyes, her lips still shaking profusely.
She sniffled to suppress the tears, but they still streamed down her face.
“You are hurting yourself, Alpha Russell!” She gasped when she realized that the tip of the dagger had gone deeper, causing more blood to flow.
“You need to stop!” She shifted her gaze to the Alpha’s face, and all she could see was the smile etched on it.
Russell still didn’t look like he felt any pain, staring at Mia with a wry smile.
“Don’t you think your parents will be disappointed if they get to find out that you had the opportunity to kill me and you messed it up?”
Mia shook her head, sniffling silently.
“Please.” She muttered, her eyes returning to the dagger in the Alpha’s chest.
“I forgive you, Alpha Russell! You don’t have to kill yourself! I forgive you!” She said desperately, making another attempt to drag the dagger away from his chest.
Russell finally let go of her hands, and she dropped the dagger, moving her legs backward to avoid being injured.
She gasped for air, placing her hands on her chest.
The Alpha watched as she attempted to catch her breath, panting with beads of sweat all over her body.
He scoffed, looking at her with a smirk.
“I thought as much, Mia. You don’t want me dead. At least I deserve your forgiveness for saving your life.”
“Are you insane?!” Mia yelled at him, finally getting a grip on herself.
“What if I killed you?!” She looked at the wound on the Alpha’s chest, watching as it healed instantly.
“I was certain that you were not going to be able to do it, Mia.” Russell retorted confidently, and then he bent slowly to pick up the dagger.
He wiped off the blood on his bloody shirt and returned it to his side.
He looked Mia in the eyes, and after a few seconds, he broke his silence.
“If I could go back to fifteen years ago, Mia. I will gladly do it, and I will make sure that I make up for my mistakes.”
Mia sighed heavily, her heart throbbing vehemently against her ribcage.
“You didn’t have to do that to prove your point, Alpha Russell. I could have killed you.”
“But you didn’t.” Russell chuckled softly, and then he sighed heavily.
“As long as you are here, Mia. You will lack nothing, and I will protect you with all my life. That’s a promise.”
Mia remained silent, looking the Alpha in the eyes.
Russell cleared his throat, speaking with a low tone.
“You should get some sleep, Mia. I had a wonderful time with you tonight, and I am looking forward to more amazing times with you.”
He walked away, leaving Mia to the intense sensation that engulfed her.
