Chapter 4 The Necklace
Margarette was taken aback. Her entire body trembled even more when she heard the demon wolf's voice from behind her. She assumed he went to another dimension, but she was mistaken. The faintest hope that she would be able to flee that place vanished like dust in a strong wind.
"Why are you suddenly stunned? Are you still afraid of me? Shouldn't you
be thankful that you're still alive? If I planned to hurt you, I should have done it earlier, "the demon wolf said as he walked in Margarette's direction, but Margarette bravely snatched the necklace from her pocket before he could get close.
Margarette's hand trembled as she faced the demon wolf with the necklace in her hand. She had no choice but to believe in whatever power and ability this necklace possessed.
Margarette is convinced that this necklace will aid her in her fight against the demon wolf. She knew it would be difficult for her to overcome it because she lacked much of the necklace's power, but she would try to defend herself. She will do everything in her power, even if it means losing her life.
"Don't ever make the mistake of coming near me because I will make sure that you will never succeed in what you are planning against me. If you think I am afraid of someone like you, you are mistaken. Go on, try to come near me so you would know what I mean!" boldly said Margarette to the demon wolf, but despite the courage, she had drawn from her chest her face and the trembling of her whole body could not hide the intense fear she felt.
Once he noticed the necklace Margarette was holding, the demon wolf came to a halt. As soon as he saw it, he immediately displayed shock on his face. He couldn't possibly be mistaken; this is the necklace made of the sacred and potent stone of the Irudes, which was made specifically to provide resistance to various kinds of creatures.
There is only one person the demon wolf knows who owns the necklace, which has been handed down through the generations for a very long time. He stopped wondering about the reason why he and Margarette had parted ways before they arrived at this location because it was due to the necklace's power. Why could he easily touch her if Margarette already had this stone from earlier? Does it mean it is no longer able to adequately protect Margarette due to its diminished strength?
"Do you think I'll be scared of that thing?" the demon wolf smirked. "If you think that will save you against me and all the creatures that have roamed this place, you are mistaken because its power is not enough to protect you."
"Do you know that behind every tree you see in the woods are the creatures you will never want to meet on your way because you will have to deal with them? It only means that from the beginning before you came here, that thing was useless because it didn't protect you. So if I were you, it would be better for you to just bury your plan to flee this place in oblivion because it will only be difficult for you," the demon wolf added.
Margarette started crying after hearing everything the demon wolf had told her.
Margarette yelled, "That's not true! You're a liar! You just want me to see if I can use this necklace against you!" as she tightened her hold on the necklace.
Everything the demon wolf told Margarette was false, in Margarette's opinion. If this necklace couldn't shield her, her grandfather would never have given it to her. Her grandpa wasn't lying. It is true what he says about the power and abilities this necklace possesses. Most importantly, his grandfather loved her dearly and would never allow her to be in danger.
Yet why? Why is Margarette experiencing this? Why does she think everything this creature said to her was true? Why did it allow this creature to take her to this dimension if the necklace she is holding had strength and power? Although she didn't want to, this was what the situation wanted to convey to her in terms of what was going on. What if it is true that it is powerless? What will she do next?
"Why don't you try it so you can see that everything I say is true? I allow you to use whatever kind of power that necklace has against me; just make sure you win because otherwise, you won't be able to leave this place. You will stay by my side forever, as my mate whether you like it or not, Margarette."
The demon wolf's once-present smile was erased, and he suddenly adopted a grave expression as he turned to face Margarette, who was at that very moment still sobbing and unsure of what to do.
"Don't tell me you can't do it; what's the matter; why haven't you used the power of that necklace yet."
Margarette was only able to let go of her hand. She lowered her head slowly as she sobbed. She is forced to face the sad reality that she will be trapped in this place with this creature forever and that she will never be able to escape.
The demon wolf at that time did nothing but observe Margarette as she sobbed. He didn't intend to scare her or even hurt her; he was only compelled to say those things to stop her. The necklace wouldn't be able to return her to her world even if it had strength and power. And only one creature he is aware of that can accomplish all of this, if she uses strong power, can make it happen.
The demon wolf just let Margarette cry until she was worn out and stopped on her own, but her crying got worse rather than better. The woman in front of him was nearly drowning in her tears when he could no longer control himself and could not bear to watch her for the next few hours.
He approached Margarette with his feet moving slowly in her direction. Her white hair matched the petals of the flowers that were scattered everywhere with each gust of wind as if dancing to the beat of the music.
Margarette was abruptly pulled toward his chest and firmly held in his arms as the demon wolf moved toward her.
The demon wolf tightened his embrace with Margarette, appearing as if he didn't want to let go of her, and said, "Don't worry because while I'm by your side, I will never let you get hurt. I'm ready to gamble everything I have even if it means the end of my life just to ensure your safety."
When Margarette felt the demon wolf's warm arms encircling her body, she was unable to move and even her copious tears stopped flowing from her eyes.
A strange heat that gently caressed Margarette's chest was produced by the heat coursing through the demon wolf's veins. Even the warmth of his breath was warm enough to feel it hit her cheek. Additionally, she could hear his heartbeat, which was rapid and became even more so with each minute that went by. Why did she feel his heart calling her name with each beat that baffled her?
Margarette struggled to understand what kind of force had suddenly enveloped her entire being and prevented her from escaping the demon wolf's tight embrace on her. It appeared as though it didn't want to let him go and leave this creature behind. Yet why? Why does she have such strong feelings for this creature? Why does she think their hearts have been connected for so long? She must be furious with him and hate him so much. What is this mystery that has now completely engulfed her?
"Margarette! Wake up! Don't let your feelings get you carried away! You should not trust him because he will only do you harm! Wake up before it's too late. Margarette, wake up!" Margarette heard a voice from the bottom of her heart that woke her up.
"Stay away from me!"
Margarette pushed the demon wolf hard, but she wasn't strong enough to move her; instead, his arm tightened the defense even more. She then felt as though she was hitting a large steel wall that even if she tried to, was very difficult to move.
It was difficult for Margarette to believe that she had surrendered to this creature's dominance. She would have likely been engulfed by his power if she hadn't heard the voice calling to her repeatedly. Deliberately separating her body from her, the demon wolf against her then rubbed her chin and stared earnestly into his eyes without saying anything else.
Margarette begged, "Why are you doing this to me? What do you need from me? Please tell me how we can put an end to everything."
Margarette's tears started to flow once more as she continued, "Do you want money, a lot of money? Take me back to my world. I will work hard to give you a lot of money. Don't worry because I will never run from you. I will do everything, as long as you just let me go. Please..."
Margarette would kneel before the demon wolf if she could, but it seems that despite her repeated requests, he will never let her leave this place so quickly. She abruptly recalled the moment she first saw him in her dream. Its physical appearance was still very distinct in her memory, and she was aware that it was unlikely to occur now that everything that had been stuffed in her dream had come true. She would not want her dream's events to repeat themselves.
The demon wolf stared into Margarette's eyes and said, "I have no interest in any money this world has, Margarette."
Then, Margarette asked, "What do you need from me? Is it my blood? Is it my body?" She broke down in tears and could not control her feelings. She knew the answer to this question, so why did she ask it? If money wasn't pursuing her, her body most likely was. In exchange for her freedom, she will pay for her body.
Margarette believed that she could only see scenes like this in literature and motion pictures. But at this point, she never imagined that she would find herself in such a predicament. The kind of tale the heroine should beg for when she wants to leave. In exchange for freedom, she will sell her body, but in the end, she will only destroy herself completely until she is left with nothing. Because the stories barely scratch the surface of this kind of plot, she occasionally grows weary of reading or watching them.
"Do you think I'm that shallow to ask that kind of thing from a mortal like you? Just so you know, I'm not just sleeping with one or two women. No matter how many women I like, I can get as many as I want so there is no reason for me to desire any part of your body. I want nothing more than to be with you forever, Margarette."
Words that, if spoken by someone who was truly in love, would have been pleased to hear, but in Margarette's circumstances, she knew it was all complete insanity. What kind of relationship could exist between a mortal and this creature? What if they were together in the same house? She becomes even more terrified just thinking about it. How will her life be with this creature?
"Are you crazy or is it just natural for a creature like you to act that way? Everything you say is big insanity. Someone like you and a mortal like me can't be together so please, take me back," Margarette begged again. She kept crying and didn't stop.
Margarette has covered all the bases and made clear what she believes to be correct. She has tried her hardest to get the demon wolf to free her, but she believes she has come up empty-handed.
After slowly releasing his grip on Margarette's chin, the demon wolf turned his back away from her.
The wolf demon pleaded with Margarette, "Marry me. I promise I will bring you back safely to your world."
