“B-but why? He’s your brother and I am his mate too”
To say I was not in the least confused meant I was lying. Why would he be jealous of his brother?
“There’s uhh. There’s something I should tell you” he grabbed my hands gently and sat me down beside him on the little bench beside Kade’s bed.
His hands were cold. Probably from just taking a cold bath. I looked up at him to see him staring right at me. Kael’s look never unnerved me. Instead, it brought me some type of comfort. But Kade. If it were Kade that were seated right beside me. My nerves would have been going crazy. He unsettled me and that was disturbing. The pull I felt towards Kade was extremely strong and weird. I never said this out loud but I felt more sexual appeal from Kade than Kael.
Don’t get me wrong when I had kissed him earlier it felt good. It was soft. Not as hard as Kade’s lips, yet kissing Kade did something more. I didn’t realize I had been staring at his lips until his tongue came out to lick the bottom lip. My stomach stirred. Okay weird.
“What is it you want to tell me?” I asked raising my eyes to his.
“First I want you to know I did it for you. I-I just had to. You were hurting too much and I had to”
“What did you do Kael?” I squeezed his hands.
“Kade never rejected you as his mate. I-I had approached him that day to tell him to do it. You weren’t ready and I was so sure he would pick someone else I just didn’t want y-“
That day at the crowning. When Kade was named alpha and I was Luna. That afternoon I had been humiliated into thinking Kade didn’t want me and it was all a lie.
“Why? I mean why would you do that? I-you humiliated me I-“
“I am sorry Lyra. He wouldn’t do it so I thought I’d do it for him. To be honest I was happy doing it.”
I was calm. Didn’t understand why I remained seated even when all I wanted to do was bolt.
“Why? Seeing me heartbroken made you happy?”
He touched my cheeks. Then palmed my face bringing his closer. I didn’t push him away and I didn’t care that we weren’t alone.
“Noo. Seeing how he treated you made me do it. I would never be happy or okay with seeing you sad. I have always been on your side since day one cause I wanted you. I wanted this. He didn’t and although it took him a while, he sees it now. How important you are to both of us”
My heartbeat increased. It felt like there had been pressure on my chest that was finally lifted. Kael was telling me how he felt. I didn’t know that was needed seeing as we were mates.
“I have never had a mate before. Forgive me for trying to be selfish. I still don’t like the idea that I get to share you but the moon goddess knows what’s best. Besides I took a beating already but it’s okay if you still want to hit me. I deserve it”
“You took a beating?” I asked.
“Yeah. Before we turned up here Kade and I got into an argument and we kinda beat each other up. When he wakes up we will talk about it. I know he wants you as much as I do. Well I can’t speak for him but it’s the truth”
I knew that. Nobody in their right mind would go on a rescue mission with no backup. But they did. For me. Anna and the council members must have been seeing things with the scroll and whatever. But bonding with these two could never make me forget anything. I wanna be stronger for them so if anything I’d want Ria to remember everything she needs to in order to be stronger.
“Ria likes you a lot” I smiled up at him before reluctantly pressing my lips against his. It’s not like I didn’t feel anything for Kael sexually. It was just soft and safe.
“Ria? Your wolf?” His eyes shone and I chuckled.
“H-how did you get her? I mean when? I thought you were wolf-less. I mean we all thought- I want to see her again” I chuckled.
“You will. But not inside here. And we have a lot to talk about concerning Ria. We would do that after you’re changed and back in my room with me”
“Uhh. Your room? Why?”
“You can’t sleep here. It’s not comfortable here” he opened his mouth to protest but I stopped him.
“Just trust me. Anna would never hurt him. Okay just for tonight. You need to sleep.”
I could see him fighting himself but soon he nodded his head and I smiled.
“Good. All I ask is that you trust me. Now go change out of those clothes” he smirked as he tugged on his pants' waist.
“What are you doing?” I turned my face away. My cheeks were flaming hot.
“You told me to change” he was chuckling now. I rolled my eyes but didn’t stop smiling even when he walked back towards the bathroom.
It was just Kade and me now. I looked down at his sleeping form. That day was problematic. Looking for a healer was a bit chaotic but we found one. She said we were lucky we found her on time. The poison wasn’t just meant for him but also his wolf and that was why he wasn’t healing as he should. His wolf was hurt too.
“I hope you wake up soon” I said bending my head to kiss his forehead.
He looked so handsome and peaceful. He looked really good without a scowl on his face. My mate. What I wouldn’t give to have him come back to us.
The sound of the door opening drags my attention. I turned to see Kael walking out. “They fit” I said and he nodded.
“Thank you” I smiled and turned to look at Kade again.
“I hope Anya is okay” Kael sighed. “I hope so too. Once jade wakes up let’s leave” I don’t argue even though I wanted to object.
“Let’s go eat then take a nap. That sounds good right?” He nodded and I smiled. We were going to be okay. Hopefully.
