she is manipulating you

Rylan’s POV

With that command roaring from my lips, we sprang into action. I led the charge, muscles coiling as I surged forward, driven by an intense need to protect Eliza. My heart raced wildly, pounding a mantra of urgency as I darted from the shelter of the bushes towards the stranger and Eliza.

"Eliza!" I shouted, my voice slicing through the tension like a knife.

She turned, eyes wide in surprise, but a fleeting moment of shock fell across her features before the cloaked figure moved closer to her, positioning herself as a barrier.

"Stay back!" the woman hissed, her voice like cold steel against my resolve.

I skidded to a halt, heart pounding in my chest as I gauged the situation. Eliza hesitated, caught between fear and instinct. My brothers fanned out beside me, forming a protective barrier as we faced the two figures.

"Rylan, we have to be careful," Enzo warned, his eyes scanning for any threats. “We don’t know what she’s capable of.”

"I don’t care!" I shot back, frustration boiling inside me. "We can’t just let her take Eliza!"

The cloaked figure's grin was unsettling—serpentine, revealing a malevolence that twisted my gut. “She’s safe with me, boy,” Yelda said, her icy voice curling around us. “Unless you would prefer to make this a game of force, which I can assure you, you will lose.”

The strange male at her side remained silent, his presence imposing, his face shadowed. I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was just waiting for a reason to intervene.

“Why are you taking her?” I demanded, trying to hold my composure. “She’s not yours to have.”

Eliza stepped forward, confusion etched on her face. “Rylan, it’s okay. I was just—”

“No, it’s not okay!” I cut her off, instinct taking over. “You shouldn’t be here. Away from us. With them.” My pulse quickened even more when I glanced at her. “You don’t even know who they are!”

“You need to understand, child,” Yelda spoke again, her gaze unwavering on Eliza. “I have come to offer her something far beyond your petty squabbles. Power. Knowledge. The freedom to live as she was always meant to.”

The heaviness of her words settled like a fog around us, and I recognized the dangerous allure of her promise. But that was all it was—an illusion meant to ensnare.

Eliza hesitated, and in that split second, the ache of doubt crept in. “Eliza, you can’t trust her,” I warned, feeling the panic rise as she stood frozen, weighing her options. “She’s manipulating you!”

The cloaked figure leaned closer to Eliza, whispering something inaudible but insidious. I could practically feel the darkness swirling around her, seeking to invade her mind.

“Stop!” I shouted, my voice shaking with urgency. “You have to come back to us!”

Before another second could pass, I surged forward, ready to face whatever backlash would come. But as I charged, something unexpected happened.

Eliza broke through the invisible tether that bound her. “No!” she shouted, regaining her voice, her eyes narrowing on Yelda. “I don’t want what you’re offering.”

Yelda’s expression twisted in fury, but she masked it quickly, shifting her gaze to me and my brothers. “This isn’t over,” she hissed before stepping back, the strange male shifting slightly as if ready to defend her. “You think you’ve won? You have no idea what forces are at play here.”

“We’ll deal with those forces together,” Rio declared, stepping up beside me. “You will not take her.”

Eliza’s voice rang clear and resolute. “I’m not going anywhere with either of you!”

That declaration struck a chord deep within me, the mixture of relief and pride washing over me. I was shocked by her strength, even in the face of danger.

“Let’s go,” I said firmly, extending a hand toward her. “You’re safe with us. Always.”

As she reached for me, Yelda’s anger snaked through the air, palpable and threatening. “You’ll regret this. You do not know what you’re stepping into.”

But it was too late. Eliza’s hand clasped mine, and in that moment, I knew we would face whatever came next together.

“Rylan! Move!” Ed shouted, and it was only then that I realized the situation was a powder keg ready to explode.

We swiftly turned, forming a protective line around Eliza as we began to back away from the ominous figures, hearts racing with the knowledge that we were no longer just facing a threat. We were standing at the precipice of something much darker, something we had failed to comprehend all along.

As we retreated, I glanced back, my heart pounding with fierce determination. Yelda’s eyes burned with fury, but as we moved, I vowed silently that I would shield Eliza from whatever darkness awaited us.
