Chapter 48

With a ferocious leap, I pounce on Adam, bringing him crashing to the ground beneath me. Ignoring his screams of pain, I sink my teeth into his shoulder blades, tearing through flesh and muscle with relentless force. His cries grow louder, his pleas for mercy falling on deaf ears as I continue to savage him without remorse.

Adam's screams reach a fever pitch as I bite down harder, determined to inflict as much damage as possible. With a savage twist, I rip his arm from his body, blood gushing from the wound and splattering across my fur.

A grin spreads across my muzzle as I gaze down at my handiwork, relishing in the sight of Adam's blood staining my claws and coating my face. But I'm far from finished. With a predatory gleam in my eyes, I prepare to unleash further torment upon him, tearing him limb from limb until he's nothing but a broken shell of a man, begging for the mercy he'll never receive.

Adam bolts, which is something I expected. Adrenaline surges through me. Nothing is sweeter than hunting down your prey, my blood sings. I spring after him on powerful haunches, the forest floor blurring beneath my swift paws.

Closing in, I see the whites of Adam's panicked eyes as he glances back. Fear rolls off him in waves, spurring me on. I bare my teeth in anticipation, muscles coiling to pounce. But as I leap, something unexpected happens.

Suddenly, a gunshot cracks through the air. The bullet pierces my shoulder in a burst of agonizing pain, hot blood matting my fur. I hit the ground hard, the impact knocking the breath from my lungs. Through the haze, I see Ember holding the smoking rifle, her eyes wide with fear yet resolve.

That explains where she disappeared to once I transitioned. She went to retrieve the gun, too timid to face me without an extra hand.

“You stupid bitch! You thought you could fucking kill me!” He grabs the gun from Ember and fires it. He aims it unsteadily, hatred twisting his face. I narrowly dodge the bullet as it whizzes past my left paw.

Snarling in defiance, I prepare to attack him. Once I disarm him, he’ll be powerless again. With a swift leap, I try to pull Adam to the ground. I succeed, but not without taking a bullet to the chest. The pain is excruciating as the silver bullet lodges into my ribcage, dangerously close to my heart. A tortured howl escapes me as I crash down, the forest spinning around me. Dark blood gushes from the wound.

"Get the chains ready!" Ember's shrill cry cuts through my agony.

No! I can't be captured again. Gathering my fading strength, I stagger upright, every labored breath bringing fresh torture. I'll fight to my last breath before letting myself get kidnapped.

"I can see you have a death wish," Adam sneers, the rifle aimed at my heart. "Let me help you with that."

As he fires, I desperately lurch aside, the bullet narrowly missing. But suddenly, white-hot pain erupts in my left paw as another shot rings out - Ember has flanked me. Her bullet shreds flesh and bone, and I collapse with a wounded howl, crimson staining the forest floor.

I turn to face Adam, my snarl tinged with regret for ripping his arm off his body instead of his head. With each breath, I feel my strength waning, the loss of blood taking its toll on my weary body. I survey my surroundings, seeking a path forward despite the overwhelming odds stacked against me.

Adam and Ember stand before me, armed and dangerous, their guns poised to strike at any movement I make. I know I must act quickly and decisively if I am to have any hope of escaping. My gaze settles on Adam, his form offering a tantalizingly vulnerable target compared to Ember's more formidable presence.

With a surge of determination, I move to attack Adam, only to find my movements impeded by the cold bite of silver chains wrapped tightly around my paws. Panic surges through me as I struggle against the chains, their burning touch searing my fur and sending waves of agony coursing through my body.

Desperation claws at my mind as I frantically seek a way to break free from my restraints, but each tug only serves to tighten the chains around me, locking me in place with merciless efficiency. I whimper in pain as the chains dig into my flesh, leaving deep wounds that bleed freely onto the ground below.

Suddenly, a searing pain lances through my back, and I cry out in anguish as a whip crack against my skin, leaving behind a trail of charred fur and raw, exposed flesh. Again and again, the whip strikes, each blow driving me further into the depths of agony until I can bear it no longer. With a final whimper, I collapse to the ground, my strength drained by the relentless assault.

Adam moves toward me, a grin on his face, blood seeping from his shoulder where Ember has tied a scarf to stop the bleeding. He bends down and lifts my wolf chin, his touch sending waves of revulsion coursing through me. I can barely contain the urge to strike out at him, to tear him limb from limb for the pain he has inflicted upon me, and tear that smile off his face.

“It was lovely knowing you, Amelia,” Adam taunts, his words dripping with venom as he raises his gun, preparing to deliver the final blow. I close my eyes, bracing for the inevitable, a silent prayer escaping my lips for my family, hoping they are alive and will avenge my death.

But instead of the deafening blast of the gun, I am greeted by the sound of a growl, low and menacing, echoing through the clearing. My eyes snap open in shock, and I gasp as I see Nickolas standing before me, his form radiating with an aura of raw rage.

In an instant, he is upon Adam, his hands wrapped around his throat, pinning him viciously against a tree.

“You shouldn’t have fucking touched what’s mine. Again!” Nickolas snarls at Adam. I watch in stunned silence as Nickolas unleashes his wrath upon Adam, his fury a force to be reckoned with.

I look around me, and Ember scrambles away in terror, fallen lycans lying motionless on the ground, their heads severed from their bodies in a grim testament to Nickolas’ wrath. What the fuck happened?

With a swift and merciless motion, Nickolas breaks Adam's other arm from his shoulders, the sickening sound of bone snapping filling the air. Adam's screams echo through the forest, his eyes wide with terror.

But Nickolas is not finished yet. With a savage determination, he moves his hands between Adam's legs and rips out his manhood, the gruesome sight causing bile to rise in my throat. I can hardly bear to watch as blood gushes from the wound, pooling on the ground beneath him.

"You won't be needing that in hell," Nickolas taunts, flinging the severed balls aside with a callous disregard. Adam's screams reach a crescendo as he gazes in horror at his discarded manhood, his world collapsing around him.

But Nickolas is not content to let Adam suffer quietly. With cold and calculated precision, he takes up the gun and begins to methodically shoot Adam in the kneecaps, the sound of gunfire ringing through the clearing with each shot. I wince as Adam's cries of pain fill the air, the sound reverberating in my ears like a symphony of agony.

But Nickolas does not stop there. With a cruel twist of fate, he turns his attention to Adam's feet, shooting each toe in succession, the bullets tearing through flesh and bone with brutal efficiency. I can hardly bear to watch as Adam's screams of pain fill the air, his body wracked with agony as Nickolas delivers his torture with cold and ruthless precision.

“I love the way your feet look. Too bad you won’t have them in hell with you.” Nickolas digs his claws into Adam's shoulder, and the sound of rending flesh echoes through the night, mingling with Adam's anguished cries. Blood flows freely from Adam's wounds, painting the grass red. How was he still alive or not even passed out from the pain?

“Please kill me,” Adam rasps out, blood pouring from his mouth. His desperate pleas for death are met with only cold indifference from Nickolas, who seems to relish in his suffering.

“In due time, I will,” Ncikaosl says, and with chilling calmness, he wrenches Adam's leg from his knees. The sight of it is enough to make my stomach churn, but I force myself to bear witness to the horror unfolding before me. With each agonizing moment, I find myself drawn further into the vortex of violence and despair, unable to tear my gaze away from the nightmare unfolding before me.

“Please,” Adam pleads for release, his voice barely a whisper, but Nickolas shows no mercy. He continues his assault, tearing away Adam's other leg with ruthless efficiency. I can't bear to watch as Adam's cries fill the air; each screams a testament to the unbearable agony he endures.

“Sure,” Nickolas says, and time seems to slow to a crawl as he carries out his ruthless act, his movements deliberate and methodical. I watch in horror as he digs his clawed finger into Adam's heart, each agonizing moment stretching on indefinitely.

Adam's pained cries fill the air, mingling with the sickening sound of flesh tearing and blood spilling. I'm frozen in place, the warmth of Adam's blood coating my fur like a dreadful reminder of the brutality unfolding before me.

When Nickolas flings his heart to the side and turns to face me, his entire being drenched in Adam's blood, I feel a chill run down my spine. His gaze pierces through me, devoid of any remorse or humanity. Slowly, he begins to approach. I remain rooted to the spot, unable to move or speak as Nickolas draws nearer. The stench of blood fills the air, thick and suffocating.

"Shift back," Marie says, bringing me back to Earth, and I comply, shifting back to my human form, but my body is weak and trembling, barely able to support my weight. Nickolas's strong arms catch me before I collapse. The silver bullet burns in my chest, my lifeblood spilling onto the forest floor.

I struggle to speak, my voice barely a whisper as I gaze up at him, my hand trembling as I reach out to touch his blood-splattered face. Despite the pain and exhaustion that courses through my veins, a sense of gratitude fills me as I look into his eyes, seeing the depth of his remorse mirrored there.

"Nickolas," I rasp. I feel the metallic tang of blood on my tongue as I cough, the bullet lodged in my ribcage sending waves of agony through my body.

"Amelia," he responds. I feel his hand trembling against mine, his concern evident in every line of his face.

"Thank you," I manage to say, my hand slipping from his face as darkness engulfs me.

"Amelia," Nickolas pleads, shaking my body gently. I struggle to keep my eyes open, the weight of exhaustion pulling me into the depths of unconsciousness.

"I feel tired," I murmur, my words barely coherent as I surrender to the darkness that beckons me. "I am going to sleep for a bit."

With those final words, I allow the darkness to claim me, the warmth of Nickolas's embrace the last thing I feel before succumbing to oblivion.
