Chapter 89 Peck

Chapter 89 Peck
Frightened, Violet’s hands trembled, her heart rate skyrocketing as she stared into his cold-blooded eyes. This was the first time she was seeing Casimir look so threatening, and she was truly terrified of him.
“I…I…I…” she started, struggling to form words as her legs began to weaken, her resolve faltering. She had only hoped to get him to lie with her, who knew she would be the one scared instead?
“Get some sleep. We have a journey to prepare for,” letting go of her waist, he instructed, his gaze lingering on her for a while before he left the room.
Violet breathed a sigh of relief once he was gone, her legs giving in as she collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath.
Suddenly, she clenched her fists, her eyes teary as she imagined ways to get back at him for threatening her. All her life, she had always been the one doing the threatening, and she was not about to let him walk all over her now.
She might not be able to ask for a divorce now, but there would come a time when he would need her father’s help again and that would be the perfect moment to strike.
“Just you wait and see, Casimir. You will have sex with me whether you like it or not.” Smirking, she said, her gaze dropping on the exit where he had just walked out from.

…
“Hi! Where is Beta Lucien?” Walking around the packhouse, Aria asked a passing maid, who shook her head in response and resumed walking.
“Aish! Why is he so hard to find?” Groaning, she cried out in exhaustion and rested her back against the wall, trying to regain her energy. Looking back at where she came from, she contemplated giving up and finding him later, but remembering they were about to leave for a long journey, and she would have to wait several more days before seeing him, she shook her head and leaned away from the wall.
“I have to find him,” she told herself and continued strolling, asking around as she navigated her way through the packhouse.
At one point, she could no longer walk and made her way to the nearest garden, taking a seat under the shade.
“I give up, damn it. Who knew this packhouse was so big?” Catching her breath, she remarked, throwing her head back against the chair.
“Ugh, I need water.” Opening her mouth, she said, her expression regretful. She wasn’t even sure she knew her way back, and she would probably faint if she walked around the packhouse again. Dropping her hand into her pocket, she reached for her phone and was about to dial a number when a voice spoke. “Are you planning to tour the packhouse?”
Startled, she halted and slowly raised her head, her eyes widening when she saw who it was.
“Ahhh!” She cried out as she abruptly dropped her head, harshly hitting the back of the chair, her phone falling from her hands.
A faint smile appeared on Lucien’s face as his legs moved toward her and he picked up her phone.
Aria stood up and began smiling, masking her pain as she spoke, “No. I would rather be in bed with you.” Lucien’s gaze dropped on her, and she realized what she had just said.
“No, no. I meant I would rather be in bed sleeping,” she quickly corrected, brushing it off as a joke as she burst into laughter.
Lucien scoffed in amusement and stretched out his hand, urging her to retrieve her phone.
“Oh, thank you,” she said after collecting it, and when she noticed he was about to leave, she added, “Actually, it is you I have been looking for. I lost track of my path while searching for you and ended up here.” Lucien’s face grew serious, his body turning fully to face her.
“How can I help you, Lady Aria?” He inquired, and she felt a hint of disappointment, not expecting him to revert to a formal tone. Well, she was his Luna’s best friend, it was only normal that he addressed her respectfully. She was not going to let it deter her.
“No… actually, yes…but I might need you to spare me a minute.” Taking a step forward that didn’t escape Lucien’s observant eyes, she spoke, and he replied, “Please, go ahead,” a warm smile forming on his face.
“So, ermm… I like you, Beta Lucien, and I didn’t want to ignore my feelings without confirming if they are mutual.” She rushed the words out, confessing her feelings. With her gaze lowered, she sighed, playing with her fingers as she awaited his response. She closed her eyes and prayed silently, hoping he wouldn’t reject her outright.
Lucien simply stared at her, observing her as he carefully weighed his words. He knew rejecting her would hurt, but he would rather not give her false hope than give her one and steal her happiness. No one ever truly healed from heartbreak, and given her carefree nature, she didn’t deserve that pain.
“Lady Aria, I appreciate you confessing your feelings, but I have to reject you,” he finally said, causing her to open her eyes and ask, “Why?!” She took another step forward, making him take one back, her brows knitting in embarrassment.
Trying to ignore the sign, she scoffed and said, “I am not your type? I don’t have the features of your ideal woman? Or is my status too low compared to yours?” Bombarding him with questions he found difficult to answer.
“It is none of those things, Lady Aria. You are a wonderful person and woman; I just don’t deserve you. I am sure there are better men out there who would be willing to be with you,” he answered, eliciting a bitter laugh from her.
“That’s the word men use when they don’t like a girl, isn’t it? Isn’t it weird? It’s the same everywhere, even in the human world.” Deep down, she was sad, but she chose not to let the emotion spill, doing her best to keep her tears from falling. It wasn’t as if this was her first rejection, and she wasn’t about to start crying over a man she barely knew. And when had she ever given up?
“I am sorry, I don’t know what words to use to comfort you,” he replied honestly, causing Aria to laugh, finding him genuinely cute. She hated how honest he was, yet loved it because it made him even more appealing to her.
“Do you have a mate? A lover? A girlfriend? Or a one-sided crush?” She asked, her eyes widening at his reaction when she mentioned a one-sided crush. It seemed he truly couldn’t hide how he felt.
“Who is it? Tell me,” she pressed curiously.
“I don’t have any of those. I am dedicated to serving my Alpha and this pack. I prefer doing it while single, I don’t want to be distracted,” he said, and she smiled, closing the distance between them, catching him off guard.
“Lady Aria…” he called, about to step back when she suddenly rose on her toes and pecked him on the lips, causing him to tense.
