Chapter 30 You'll see

Chapter 30 You'll see
Melanie POV

So let me get this straight, Ross said munching loudly on a dorito chip, "You are in love with one heir to the throne of Bloodmoon and the other heir is teaching you how to win his affection.”

" That's about right.” I nodded.
" And you're in both their houses on different days of the week. Getting lessons from one and giving lessons to the other.”

"Yup.” I tucked my legs underneath me and made myself more comfortable on the bed.
Ross stared at me for a long time. Finally, she shook her head as if to clear out cobwebs," And you're telling me this very casually. Like you don't fully realize what is going on.”

"I do realize what's going on , Ross. I just told you.” I argued, stretching my fingers towards the bag of chips between us.
"Uh, no. You don't. You're ping ponging between the two most eligible young bachelors of the pack and you're acting like it's a normal thing to do.”

"Ping ponging? Oh my God, Ross. What's that even supposed to mean?” I dissolved into peals of laughter while she stuffed her mouth full of chips as if to stop herself from yelling at me.
“Ok ok,” I wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes, “ I'm just gonna have to tell you. But you've got to promise me you won't tell anyone else. No, you've got to swear."
“What?" Her eyes widened and she dropped the chip she was about to bite into. “Oh my God, you slept with both of them?!"

“What?! No! Jesus Christ Ross, why the hell would I even do that?"
“I don't know." She shrugged and threw her hands up in frustration, “I don't know who you are anymore. Just last week you were getting dunked in a pool and now you're in cahoots with the two most important people in school."

“it’s not….okay, listen, I'm gonna tell you what's really going on but you have to promise me not to tell.”
She sighed and folded her legs underneath her as well, adjusting on the bed so we were closer together, " fine. I won't tell.”
" Not even Dave.”
"Who's he gonna tell?” She snorted.
" Ross you can't tell him. You can't tell anyone.”

" Fine fine, I won't. Come on, spill. What is it?"
I took in a huge breath and said in a rush, "William Rivenhall is helping get his brother to like me because that's the only way to break the mate bond between us.”

The room descended into silence. I could almost hear a metaphorical glass dropping to the floor and shattering to pieces in her head.
Her pupils had grown so wide, I feared they were about to jump out of her face and she didn't blink for several seconds.

I waited, twisting my fingers in anxiety.

Finally she blinked slowly and untucked her legs, getting to her feet. She walked to the door and back, her face scrunched up pensively. She stopped at the foot of my bed and turned to me, hands folded on her chest.
" You found your mate. And it's William Rivenhall.”

I shrugged in the affirmative. She nodded slowly, " So. You expect me to believe you are currently in a mate bond with William Rivenhall, next in line to the Alpha title.”
"Why would I make something like that up? I'm not lying Ross. It happened the first day we met. But it doesn't matter….."

“Right, because you are in love with the other heir, Conner Rivenhall. And William supports this so he wants break the mate bond by making his brother fall for you.”
" Now, you've gotten the full picture.” I gasped in relief.
" Yep. You've officially gone crazy. I knew staying at Dalderia would eventually break you.” She moaned in despair.

" What? I'm not crazy. It's the truth, I swear.” I tried jumping to my feet hurriedly and ended up tangling my left foot in the sheets somehow, making me lose my balance and tumble to the ground.

“Oh God, you're even clumsier than before. What's happening to you!" She covered her face with her hands in despair.
“Stop being so fucking dramatic Rosalyn and come get this thing off me." I struggled to release my foot from the tangle that had somehow gotten tighter.

She tugged the sheets off me and helped me to my feet. Then she proceeded to hold my face between her hands and peer closely at me.
“What are you doing?" I asked as she squeezed my cheeks.
“You can usually tell if a person isn't all there by a certain look in their eyes or pallor of their skin or ….."
“Ugghh..for the last time, I'm telling the truth." I slapped her hands away.

“Ow! How am I supposed to believe that?” She rubbed her hands gloomily, “Putting aside the probability of a mate bond with an Alpha, there's the fact you don't even have a wolf yet. How are you in a mate bond without a wolf?"
“I don't know either. It just happened." I shrugged.

“Ok, let's assume I believe that for a second. I don't but let's assume I do. Why the hell would you want to break it on the tiny chance you get his twin to fall for you?”
" Did you miss where I said William doesn't want it either?"

“That doesn't make it any easier to swallow." She scoffed.
“Ok you know what? I'll prove it right now. Let's go to his house."

“Wh…what?” She gasped.
I was already throwing open the closet door and taking out a jacket. " We can take a cab. Have you got any spare change?”
" Wh…huh? You want me to…accompany you to William Rivenhall’s house?”

It sounded absurd when she said it that way. Everything sounded absurd now that I was hearing it from her mouth and it irked me. She made it sound like I was crazy. I knew it was probably a bad idea telling her but I was so high on excitement from my lessons with William the previous day, I hated that I had no one to tell.
I told Ross nearly everything. She was my sound board, my best friend. William and I were keeping the coaching thing a secret from students in school but Ross didn't count since she didn't attend Dalderia. So why shouldn't I tell her?

Well here was why. She didn't believe me. And I desperately need her to. I needed someone to validate the wild turn my life had taken.
Rosalyn was still standing there looking at me like I had suddenly grown horns or sprouted wings.
“Grab your jacket. Let's go." I said as I clasped the first two buttons on my yellow denim jacket.
" Mel if this is some sort of elaborate prank….”
" It's not. Come on. I'm supposed to get another coaching session today anyway. He might not want me bringing a guest so you'll just…like, hang around while I go up to the front door. He'll be glad to see me and let me in. You'll see."

Ross followed me out the house and into a cab as if on autopilot. She was calm enough while we drove through town. The second we approached the rich neighborhoods, she began to fidget.

“Mel if we get chased by security or arrested for trespassing, I swear I'll never forgive you." She said for the hundredth time.
" Relax," I rolled my eyes, " We'll be fine. You'll see.”

The cab stopped us in front of William's house. I convinced Ross to hide behind a tree across from the building, promising to send her a text once I was in the house.
My stomach was in quivers as I walked up the porch. William hadn't said anything about coaching lessons today so this would be a surprise. I hoped he wasn't going to get mad or anything, but I was also excited to see
him again.
A little too excited.

I blew out a shaky breath and rang the doorbell.
