Chapter 105: Magic of the Mating Bond

Chapter 105: Magic of the Mating Bond
Freya’s P.O.V

“My coven just used me to get to you,” Maggie’s voice sounded lifeless. “They told me they’ll extract your magic and give it to me, to make me powerful…but now my great-grandmother told me that I helped them for the greater good. That it was my duty to those who had brought me up…fed me and nourished me till I turned eighteen…and that was it…”

I didn’t like the way it sounded. Maggie’s great-grandmother sounded like a dick, but that wasn’t my concern. I didn’t like the way Maggie’s eyes looked so dead…as if she was exhausted inside.

“She said it like it was my fault for being born into the coven…” Maggie looked up into my eyes then and my heart thrashed against my ribcage in fear. There was just something off about her expression that I couldn’t pinpoint. “I was thrown out of my own coven; my own parents didn’t want me anymore…all because I was the spare. But then that demon they hired to try to find you…when he failed and ended up dead, my coven told me they would help me if I helped them. I thought I was finally getting to be brought back into the circle…but that dream shattered right in front of my eyes too…”

I didn’t say anything, because I had no idea what to say. If I had been in her place, I would’ve been upset too, but I had suffered far too much at the hands of my abusive father to feel sorry for her. She had just helped her own coven to kidnap me. But how though?

“How did you manage to lure us all out?” I asked her instead, trying to distract her from her current state of mind. “Were you the one who created the fog?”

“No.” Maggie shook her head almost absentmindedly. “I was the one who sealed in the witches inside the pack-house. I made it so no one with active magic could get out of the house. You had the seal…so you could get out easily, but it sealed in the witches; stopped them from helping you.”

“And how did you get in?” I asked her next, but I think I already knew the answer to that.

“I just told you, we’re related.” Maggie gave me an incredulous look. “Our powers are much too similar to be distinguished on a primary level like the magic barrier they had set up. But then again…they had no way of knowing that didn’t they?”

Maggie tilted her head to the side, studying me as I shifted uncomfortably on the bed. “This room seems familiar to you, doesn’t it? That’s because this room used to belong to your mother…back when she was still a part of the coven…before she was sent away into hiding.”

My heart almost skipped a beat at what she said. This room? This bed? Everything here had belonged to my mother?

“We took over this house right after the Witch Council left this place unattained. My coven was in hiding because they broke a taboo, and the Council never came back here thinking that my coven wouldn’t come back to the scene of the crime.” A slow smile spread over her face, one that spelled wrong in capital letters. “They mistook our coven for people having remorse. But they couldn’t be further from the truth.”

“Say…Freya…” Maggie came closer to me, her bright red hair thrown over one shoulder. “You know…the mating bond is one of the highest forms of magic…magic set into place by a goddess.”

She raised her hand to my throat and I stood unnaturally still, in fear that she might strangle me to death…but when she touched my skin, I found her caressing the spot on my neck where Cameron had marked me instead. The skin was healed, but Cameron had told me that the mark was going to be visible to other supernatural beings. But now that Maggie was caressing that area, it felt like my skin was burning instead. I flinched away from her touch, but that made her smile grow bigger.

“You know what…I was really, really upset, until I saw this mark. “ She looked up into my eyes, a sinister expressing on her pretty face. “I’ll let my former coven have your powers, hell, I’ll even help them…but once they are done, you’re all mine.”

I scooted away from her on the bed. “What on earth are you talking about?” I wanted to yell at her, but my voice came out shrill, scared.

I was in an unfamiliar place, among unfamiliar people who were originally supposed to be my family, but now they wanted to take away my powers instead. Picking a fight with them was the last thing I could do since I was no better than a human, and running was out of question. I had no idea how to go around this house, let alone how to get out of this room with so many magical traps all around me.

“Once you’re weak and drained of your real magic…I’m going to take away the rest of it.” She smiled like a maniac. “I was forever the outcast, the unwanted child…but once I get the magic that is the source of your mating bond to that Alpha wolf…I’ll have a mate. I’ll have an entire pack doing my bidding and most of all…I’ll become the Moon Kissed sister! My life will be complete! I can have everything I always wanted!”

“Are you nuts!” I whispered, my voice all but gone at the implication she was giving me. “You…you want to kill me, don’t you? You want to kill me!”

“Who cares if you die or not?” She threw back her head in laughter. “You were always a tool to begin with. A pathetic excuse for a human and a powerless witch! You’re better off dead than alive.”

“No…” I whispered, clutching the bed sheets in my fisted hands. “No…”

I wasn’t worthless! I was Cameron’s mate and Sarah’s Moon Kissed sister! I was Julian’s sister! I was the future Luna! I wasn’t worthless! I was special. There were people who loved me and people who were dying to find out where I was! There was no way that I was going to fall for Maggie or anyone else’s bullshit any longer!

But before I could respond to Maggie, a knock sounded at the door and Esmeralda walked inside. “The wait is over,” she gave me a smile, her eyes narrowed at me. “It’s time.”

Maggie’s smile turned just as cunning and I knew that I had to come up with something immediately, before I lost everything I held dear to me.
