Ava's POV
What he had asked for was something I didn't expect. A second chance? After all that I went through? A second chance when I already met my second chance mates, and they seem to be way better than him?
“I know it can be a lot to you right now, and you have to understand things before you can say a word, so I'm going to give you some time to think about my proposal. Ensure you take good care of yourself.” He said to me and kissed the back of my hand before he rose to his feet.
I was dumbfounded and couldn't say a word until he stepped out of my ward. I breathed out a sigh of relief and was glad that he was gone. The whole tension I felt while he was here was something I was very uncomfortable with, and I couldn't wait for him to leave.
“Oh, goodness. Ava, what are you going to do about this now?” I said to myself as I brushed my palm on my face.
The thought of having to leave Jace, Jay and Joey is a little unbearable. I've become a little attached to them and love the freedom I feel once I'm around them, rather than someone I have to be so respectful towards and try my best not to step on his toes.
“I just don't think I can consider giving him a chance. Besides, there are many other ladies he could decide to go to. I don't know why he was bent on looking for me, and wants me to be the one.”
Just then, the door slid open, and I glanced to find out who it was until I saw Jake coming in with some fruits.
“How are you doing?” He asked me, and I leaned my back against the pillow.
“I'm doing great. In fact, it's time they let me out to resume my usual activities.” I replied to him and watched as he placed the fruits on my bedside table.
“Yes, you're right. But we'll wait until they approve of your discharge. Aside from that, there's something I found out about Prince Asher.”
“Prince Asher? He actually left here not too long ago. I guess you didn't see him.”
“No, I didn't. So, he finally found you. I already knew it was only about a matter of time before he finds you.” Jake said calmly and sat before me.
“He asked for a second chance and gave me some time to think about it.” I informed him.
“So, what do you think about it?” Jake asked, looking curious.
“I don't think I can give him that chance. I've found a new life that I'm enjoying, and I'm not certain that I want to go back to what I may not end up enjoying.”
“I understand you, Ava. Although I just found out from my partner that Prince Asher actually needs you to become his Luna. And that's because it was said that to produce the purest and most powerful heir, the Alpha must take his true mate as his Luna. And he actually needs you to truly ascend to the position of an Alpha in his pack.” Jake informed me, and I sighed.
It was unbelievable, but then I was already guessing that it could be because he needs me for something that he came back. If not, he wouldn't have bothered coming to ask for a second chance.
“But then, since the love and desire aren't real, it's certain that once he gets what he wants, he is going to treat me like bullshit, which is so not going to be nice.”
“Exactly, Ava. But don't worry; we'll find a way around it. Even as he has found you, you can't be right here in the ward all the time. We'll ensure that when you're out of here, he won't be able to find you anymore.” Jake assured me.
I liked the fact that he was trying to watch out for me and do all it takes within his power to ensure that I'm okay. It was a little better than when I was alone, and my eyes weren't everywhere.
At least, now, if something is going on somewhere, there is a high chance that he already knows about it and will take care of it.
“Thanks a lot for all you do.” I appreciated him, and he smiled.
“I'm only doing my job and ensuring that the late Alpha and Luna are happy with my actions. Their joy is to see you grow beautifully and happily.” He said to me, and I smiled as well.
“Thanks, still. Not everyone would stick to doing their job or whatever they feel is good. It hasn't been an easy journey, yet you didn't stop.”
“Don't flatter me. Also, I want you to know that even if you don't choose Prince Asher, another mate of yours is going to come, and I'm sure he'll make you happier beyond your expectations. The moon goddess is sure to make sure of that.” He tried to encourage me.
I smiled awkwardly at that because I realised that there was something he didn't know yet. He still thought that I had found a second mate and that they were in this school.
But then, I don't think it's too late to tell him. He just brought up the topic so I could say that it skipped my mind all these while and that should be understood.
“Uhm… regarding the second chance mate of a thing, I've found my mates.” I spoke up, and he raised his head to look at me.
“Wow. That's great. I didn't actually know. Who is he? Is he right here in this school?” He asked, looking curious and excited.
I guess he really wanted to know who the lucky ones were.
“Actually, it's not one. There are three; triplets, actually.” I informed him, and his eyes widened in shock.
“Three?” He repeated and a fruit fell from his hand.
