Ava's POV
I gasped and was panting as I came back to consciousness. My eyes blinked, and then I stared at the ceiling. Where am I?
The last thing I recall was that I was trying to get to the Werewolf Prince so badly that even when Jack held me down, I couldn't endure the overwhelming desire, and I lost consciousness immediately.
They must have rushed me to the school’s clinic after I fainted.
“Gosh.” I said under my breath, then I turned my head to the other side only to see Jack had fallen asleep while watching over me.
His head was right on the bed, and he seemed to have fallen asleep deeply. He looked so innocent while sleeping, and it looked so cute. If only he could see himself right now.
“Jack.” I called him as I tapped his back gently.
Jack moved a little, and then his eyes squinted and opened gradually. The moment he noticed that it was me, he quickly sat up.
“Hey, you're awake. How are you feeling now?” He asked me with concern.
“I'm feeling just great. I'm better. Thanks for being there.” I appreciated him, and he smiled, then waved a dismissive hand.
“What are friends for? Besides, do you think I was going to let you be and watch as you slipped into an unconscious state? It's nothing, really.” he said with a smile.
“Regardless, I'm still going to thank you.”
“Alright, if you really want to. Anyways, are you perhaps hungry or thirsty? I could help you with that.” Jack said, looking really concerned and caring.
I chuckled. He was really caring and like the best friend one could possibly have. I still keep wondering what I did to get a friend as nice and protective as he is.
“Come on, tell me what it is. I'll get it for you.” He urged me.
“Alright, alright. Well,...”
Before I could even say a word, the door to the ward opened up, and Professor Harley walked in with a strange man.
I managed to sit up, and Jack rose to his feet and bowed to greet him.
“Leave us.” Professor Harley asked of Jack.
Jack and I exchanged baffled looks, but still, he had no choice but to leave. I watched as he walked out of the ward, and when I looked back at Professor Harley and the man, I felt anxious.
Have they perhaps found out that I'm a female and they want to send me away from this school? If not, what would concern him with coming to my ward with a strange man? Oh, moon goddess. Please don't allow this to happen. Have mercy.
“Good afternoon. Is there a problem?” I asked, feeling a little scared.
“Not really, Ava. I hope you're feeling better.
“Yes, I am.” I responded calmly, feeling a little relieved due to the way he responded to me.
But still, I was very curious to know what this strange man was here for.
“That’s good to hear. Oh, pardon my manners. This is Jake Lenon. He is the delta of your former wolf pack.” Professor Harley informed me.
I squinted my eyes, wondering if I heard right.
My eyes drifted left and right, still trying to understand how this all came to be.
“I know you're confused right now, but I know your true identity, Ava. You are the princess of your former pack until your parents and everyone were killed by another pack. Why you chose this academy of all academies to attend, I don't know. But I've known about your identity for a while now. I'll leave Jake to explain further.” Professor Harley revealed to me in a calm tone.
Then I turned to look at Jake, who was said to be the delta of my former pack.
“Just as Professor Harely introduced me, I'm Jake, and the delta of what used to be our pack.”
“How come you're still alive?” I questioned him, still finding everything baffling to me.
“Well, I managed to stay alive. The wolf pack that destroyed everything didn't really stay back to check if there were people who stayed alive. All they cared about was ensuring that we were down, never to rise again. That favoured me.” Jake explained to me without breaking eye contact with me.
His blue eyes almost bore into mine, and even when I could tell how much pain he had gone through, his eyes seemed to hide it all. He looked strong, capable, and righteous.
It was still a little unbelievable that someone survived in our pack and was here to see me.
“The truth might be too much for you to handle; like you're probably still processing it, but you need to do that fast because there are still a lot more you need to know about, process, and come to terms with.”
“Which are?” I asked, not liking how things were going.
Were there bitter news for me to hear? Was there a particular truth that was going to break me more than my menstrual cramps did?
“It's a gradual thing. You don't need to know everything now.” He replied to me and moved closer to my bed.
“Then why are you here after all this while?” I questioned, wanting to know what his plan was and hoping he wasn't planning on taking me from here after all that I've built with my hands.
“Actually, after all that happened to our pack, I made sure to heal and take care of myself first before I started looking everywhere for you.”
“Why would you look for me? Of what use can I possibly be to you?” I asked him a series of questions while Professor Harley stayed quiet.
“I want you to come back to take your place as the Alpha. We can't just leave things be and forget who we are or where we came from. Besides, there's one more question.”
“What's…. what's that?”
“Is the Werewolf Prince perhaps your mate?” He questioned and I became more curious to know why he suddenly asked about that.
