Joey's POV
We were done with class so early, and I just wanted to check out how Jace and Ava were faring, especially because of the way he was acting all cranky this morning.
Probably Jace could have found out what exactly was going on with him, and maybe he would be acting much better right now.
On getting to their class, I noticed the whole hall was empty.
“Didn't they have any class today? Or they also finished early?” I said under my breath.
But then, the thought of the field came to my mind.
“Probably they have a field training today.” I uttered and left the class immediately to check out the field.
As I got to the field, my eyes widened in surprise as I witnessed Ava and Jace kissing out in the public. Everyone was watching them, and they all seemed to chuckle at some point.
I looked closely at Jace and noticed he looked so shy and calm as he and Ava's lips touched, which was really surprising.
“Mmm. Interesting.” I said under my breath while watching them.
Could it be that Jace is into males now?
Before Ava came into our lives as our dorm mate, he never really had this kind of expression on when dealing with the same sex. Right now, he looks like someone who is in love and is blushing.
“Hey, what's going on?” Jay asked as he just arrived.
He had followed me earlier, but because he had a little interruption, that was why he was a little behind. He also knew that Jace and Ava were having a sparring class, but everywhere probably looked too quiet for a sparring class, and that made him curious to know what was going on.
“Look.” I brought his attention to Ava and Jace.
“Holy shit.” Jay cursed under his breath.
I looked at him with his side eyes as I wanted to confirm if there would be any weird reaction from him because I noticed that it was both him and Jace that started acting strangely ever since Ava came into our lives.
Most of their attention and focus has always been about Ava. Even when he wasn't in the dorm yet, they were always acting worried about where he could be and would act calm whenever he was around.
Suddenly, Ava disengaged from Jace, and he was being lectured by her professor. After that, when he stood somewhere in the crowd, he ran off.
“Why did he run off?” Jay questioned, looking a little worried.
But before I could say a word, he turned and ran after her as well.
“That's the only way to find out.” I uttered and slid my hands into my pockets.
“You should also look for Ava. I bet he might not be going towards the dorm or wherever you would easily see him.”_ My wolf advised.
I didn't know if he was only speaking my inner thoughts and fears out.
“Jay is already on it.” I replied to my wolf.
“Come on, don't you have any admiration for Ava? I've noticed that you often stare at him for a long time unconsciously. That's undeniable, you know.”_ My wolf uttered and purred.
He was right. There were several times when I only stared at Ava and was lost in so many thoughts about being with him alone and with no one else. Those thoughts seemed weird to me, but now that my wolf spoke about it, it only made me realise more that I care about him.
And the fact that he had wandered off to heaven knows where, I realised that I was a little worried. I needed to be certain that he was okay and didn't run off somewhere very far due to embarrassment and harsh corrections from his professor.
I also ran towards the direction I saw him running towards as well, and it came to a point whereby I didn't have any idea where he went to or where Jay also passed.
So, I calmed down first to catch my breath as I leaned my hands on my knees. And when I was calm and was breathing calmly, I concentrated on my sense of smell.
Finally, I caught his scent. Although it was really faint, as if he had hidden his scent, thankfully, I could still smell it.
If he had truly hidden his scent, then it could only mean that he probably wanted to run off, away from everyone, and make it possible for no one to track his scent.
“Oh, Ava. Come on, all that happened is not a big deal.” I said under my breath and got ready to run while following her scent.
While running, his footprints also helped me to be certain that he passed through this path. After all, he was the only one I knew that had this small-sized foot like that of a female.
But the path was leading to a forest outside school.
“Shit. He really ran out of the school. What exactly was he thinking?” I voiced, feeling a little frustrated.
But then, I wasn't ready to give up. I continued to run until I got to the forest, which was lively with birds singing around and flapping their wings like they were adding beats to the songs sung by other birds.
The only thing about this forest now was that I could no longer track her footsteps. There were grasses and twigs here, so I could only depend on the scent that had been leading me from the start.
“Ava!” I called out to him, but I only startled the birds, and they flapped their wings and flew away.
“Gosh.”
I began to walk further into the forest, looking left and right to see if he could be somewhere hiding instead.
“Ava.” I called out again and halted, not feeling certain of going further as her scent was becoming really faint.
Suddenly, I began to hear a cracking sound over my head, and before I could even gasp, I saw Ava falling before my eyes, and I grabbed her immediately.
