CHAPTER 36

Ava's POV

I had no choice and got closer to him, and while he gave the first task to everyone, he looked at me with a smile and held my hands.

“When this is over, tell me what you see.” He said to me, and while I was wondering what he meant, the surrounding scenario suddenly changed.

I was somewhere else.

~A sort of hallucination~

I let out a sigh as I leaned on the balcony rails and looked around.

“What's going to be your first step of revenge, Ava?” I asked myself with my eyes fixed on the pack surroundings.

I already got the first step, which was to get myself in here and ensure that I don't leave. The next thing was to get ready for my revenge steps.

Suddenly, a knock came on the door, and I glanced in the direction of the sound. I took my hands off the rails and turned to leave the balcony.

As I stepped into the room, I walked up to the door and opened it only for me to see a maid standing before me. She was with a tray of chilled juice.

“Good day, miss. This is the glass of juice you asked for.”

Although I had asked her to bring one up for me, I suddenly didn’t have any interest in it because I was a little scared it could be drugged.

“Uhm… I currently do not have any appetite for it. You can take it just in case you don’t want it to go to waste.” I said to her, and she nodded.

“Alright, miss.” She responded and turned to leave.

As I shut the door behind me, I walked up to my bed and sat, staring into blank space, then went back to the balcony, since there was literally nothing for me to look at if I stayed inside the room.

As I got to the balcony and looked around, I noticed that everyone was busy walking around, carrying different things, and it made me curious to know what was going on in the pack. Due to this, I left the balcony and headed downstairs to the living room and noticed that the maids seemed to be busy, so I decided to call one of them aside.

“Yes, miss.”

“What’s going on? Why is everywhere busy?” I asked her, out of curiosity.

“It’s because of the ongoing training, miss. It started today.” The maid informed me respectfully.

“What ongoing training?” I asked again, not understanding what she meant.

I knew that so many things would change while I was away, but I never imagined a particular training that would require maids to be very busy and other things.

“During a particular period, the pack hosts a festival whereby people who deem themselves strong would come up for a contest to fight, and those who win would be gifted and also crowned as the recognized and would also be treated well for a day or more than that.” The maid explained everything to me calmly.

I opened my mouth and nodded my head as I understood what she had just explained to me, and that was quite interesting.

“So, those who are interested in the contest are actually training here?”

“Yes. Alpha Jay likes training those who are interested, and he makes sure that at least one of them wins in their various fields of interest.”

“I see. Do they pay a certain amount of money to get training from him?” I inquired, trying to get information from her because I knew I wouldn’t get it from the quadruplets.

“No. He handpicks the finest and sometimes creates a little contest for them to pick the lucky ones.”

“Oh, I see. You’ve tried. You can now go back to your work.” I urged her, and she bowed before she left.

“I see you’re quite the curious type.” I heard a voice speak behind me, and I turned to find out who it was.

He was standing with his hands in his pockets, and his eyes looked charming, but like they had more to them. It was Jack.

I breathed out sharply through my nostrils and turned away without saying a word. If he knew that he didn’t want me to include him in my list, then it is better that he butts out of my business and tries his best not to cross me, because I would not go easy on him either.

Somehow, we had grown apart, and he was no longer that person I could call a friend.

While I turned and walked away, I kept on thinking of what I could do to get my revenge, and an idea came to my mind.

“Perfect!” I said under my breath, feeling victorious even before actually testing it out.

I walked to the dining room and picked up a jug of chilled water from the fridge and also a glass into which I poured out the chilled water, and poured in a substance that I had with me, then I stopped a maid who was passing by with nothing in her hands.

“You called for me, miss.” She said as she got to me.

But looking at her innocent eyes, I didn't want to get her into trouble. It was going to be torturing for her as Jay was obviously going to think that she is to blame.

“Never mind.” I said to her, then poured the water into a bottle I found around the dining room.

I was going to find a way to make him take it from me.

As soon as I had filled the bottle up with the water, I walked out of the building, heading to the field where he was certainly practicing with his newly found trainees.

Even before seeing them from a distance, I could hear their voices as they trained hard, and on getting there, I saw them all with arrows, aiming for a particular spot, and they seemed to be doing well except a few of them who weren't as fast as some.

I clapped my hands as I got closer to him, and he turned to me.

“What the hell are you doing here?” He questioned me with raised brows.

His eyes were cold and seemed to be a little threatening, but I decided to ignore that.

“I see you're training a good set of students, but what about those that aren't as fast as the others? You aren't concentrating on each of their strengths personally.” I said to him as I held on to the bottle of water.

Then he moved closer to me with heavy steps.

“I asked you a question,” he said coldly.

“Which is not necessary to give an answer to.”

Then he chuckled, and all of a sudden, the smile on his face faded.

“How about I instruct them to aim at you? You're certainly going to die and will regret that you ever came here.” He uttered and snickered.

“If that's a challenge, I'll take it up.” I voiced out firmly without fear.

Then he laughed out.

“You've got so much guts for a weakling like you. Anyway, it's your choice. And to make it more interesting, if you're able to avoid their aims at you perfectly without even getting the bottle of water pierced, I'll take it from you and drink it. Then you can give the advice that so pleases you to give to the students.” Jay laid down his plan.

I smirked and felt happy that he had played right into my trap. All I needed to do now was to make sure things worked out that way, to ensure he drank it up.

“Alright, deal.” I responded enthusiastically.

“Alright, guys. Aim your arrows at her until they are all exhausted.” He instructed them, and they all held shocked expressions.

“I am giving you an order, and if you can't do it, just walk out.” He threatened them.

I guess that made them scared, so they all picked up their arrows, put them all in the cylinder that was attached to their back, and they got one arrow ready with their bow.

I could sense fear and anxiety from some of them, as it was just too strong. Even some of their faces were showing it, but they all didn't want to lose their opportunity to train with Jay, so none of them left.

“Are you all ready?” Jay asked them one more time.

“Yes, Alpha!” They voiced out as they aimed their arrows at me.

“Good. Now, shoot!” He ordered them, and I gulped down my saliva and let out a deep breath, ready for the risky challenge.
