Chapter 14
Chapter 14
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
INDIGO'S POV
“That's crazy! I can't imagine that actually happened.”
“I can't believe it actually happened Winter!” I sniffed as she caressed my hair. As shameful as it seemed, I needed someone…who wasn't them to talk to.
And the only other person was Winter. I apologized to her and she had nothing against me. She listened patiently this entire time.
“Have you spoken to either one of them since then?”
“Of course not. I've been avoiding them like the plague.”
“Well, you know you can't avoid them forever, right.”
“Watch me!” I dug my face in my pillow not wanting to go anywhere or do anything.
“You know you need a break from all of this end of the world stuff.” She chuckled and I knew she was only trying to lighten the mood but why did I feel even worse?
“Maybe it really is the end of the world. I don't even know what I'm being trained for, I don't understand what ‘the sanctum’ wants from me.” I groaned and I felt Winter's eyes burning holes at the back of my head. “Aren't you gonna say anything?”
“Hmm, maybe you're some type of death weapon?” She burst out laughing again.
“You're not helping Winter.” I turned to her side and smiled at her breathless face. Someone had to be happy at least. “Hey Winter…”
“Yeah?” She responded, wiping loose tears from her eyes.
“Don't you have a mate yet?”
Seemed like I asked a sensitive question seeing to how she stiffened up. “Oh, shouldn't I have asked that?”
“Well, it's fine I guess,” she eased up. “But it's complicated…I do really love someone though.”
“And who may that be?” I pushed up on the bed eager to hear what she had to say but she flicked my forehead with her fingers.
“Not telling you.”
“Hey! No fair, you know almost everything.”
“Too bad,” we both ended up giggling and chatted till we watched the red hazy sun go down. Winter was fixated on the view from my window whilst I took a moment to look at her. It felt odd…did I really have a friend who just spent the entire day with me while I was feeling down?
Who didn't laugh at me and judge me or call me weird or look at me like I was on exhibition.
I hoped this lasted.
The sun finally went down completely and the early darkness took its place.
“Wanna see my wolf?” She asked with a knowing smile glancing at me.
“Yes I want to see your wolf!” I wagged my invisible tail.
“In fact….” She contemplated, closing her eyes and I figured she was in a mind link. Almost everyone with a wolf could do this as long as you had a connection with the other party.
“Who did you call?”
“Some friends, so come on let's have fun. I wanna see your wolf too.”
Oh no. This was it, this was where she'd be totally wired out by me and wouldn't want to talk to me forever.
“I–I wasn't born with a wolf.” I said nervously, not able to face her.
“Oh.” She simply uttered, then climbed into the window slab. “You are still coming aren't you?”
“What? I mean yeah, yeah I'll still come.”
“Catch you down then,” she jumped and instantly turned wolf mid air hitting the ground gracefully. Her coat was pure white and it seemed to have a little…manic. Her blue eyes in wolf form were mesmerizing.
“Hurry up!” She shouted from below. Thanks to Gage, I was no longer scared of heights. I jumped, her back cushioning my fall and with that we rode into the unknown.
Soon enough we got to a spot not too far off from the Academy, two wolves were already there, chatting away.
“Ah, Winter. Was so glad you gave us a cool, it's been ages we hung out.”
“Totally, I brought a friend along too.” I got down from her back greeting with a small smile the two people before me. A girl, brown caramel skin, dark eyes and a boy, he had pretty unique features. He wasn't around here.
“My name's Indigo.” I announced, not giving my skepticism any opportunities. I wanted to change and be happy and this was an opportunity. To finally make friends!
“Oh, any friend of Winter is a friend of ours, I'm Lucas by the way.”
“Totally! And I'm Coco.” She agreed and they both instantly shifted. Coco's fur, as her name entailed ; soft light and dark brown, sharp eyes, Lucas a dark mane which shone almost blue under the stars.
“You go too,” Coco suggested and I didn't know what to say.
“She's not feeling too well,” Winter stepped in. “She was depressed inside so I dragged her out here.”
I was more than grateful.
Thank the Goddess for Winter!
“Let's go then.” Lucas said and climbing on to Winter's back, they all began running. No where particularly, they called it wolf riding. The speed, the adrenaline, it seemed fun.
It was fun but I couldn't shake this ominous feeling from the back of my head, it kept telling me something bad was going to happen and I just assumed I was being paranoid.
“Yeah…that's all it is. My imagination.” I tried to put it off once and for all but I suddenly felt a shudder at the back of my neck. I instantly dragged Winter's fur telling her to wait and she squeaked from the pain.
“Indie! What did you do that for?” She came to a stand still annoyed and so did the others.
“I–I feel something.”
They all looked at eachother curiously not being able to see what I was making then and out of nowhere a force shot knocking Winter down.
“Winter!” I screamed seeing her passed out body fly some feet away. I frantically looked around, my chest banging hard and there they were multiple shadowy figures surrounding us.
“What's going on Lucas?” Coco yipped in fear moving back.
“I don't know.”
They looked towards me, fear etched in their faces and I didn't know what to make of any of this!
