Big bad wolf

Melody's lips curled into a tiny smile as she watched Hunter expertly flipped a pancake. He was right, he could cook. She did not believe him even when he had told her that all of them in his house could cook, but after seeing the way he confidently carried himself in the kitchen, she knew that he belonged there.

If he did not like business, she was sure that, like Rebecca, he would also want to become a chef. He knew exactly where all the ingredients were and it made her think that he must always cook for himself anytime he was free.

Her toes curled up in her slippers when he brushed past her to pick up a bowl, and she wondered what he wanted to use the bowl for. She had noticed that he was constantly trying to initiate body contact with her, but she couldn't be so sure. Maybe it was a mistake, but the kitchen was big enough for the both of them to walk about without touching each other.

Him touching her was not exactly what she was thinking about. It was the way her body was reacting that was baffling her. She wanted to run anytime he got close, as she also wanted to stay and lean close to him. She was confused about the sweet sensations that shot up her arms anytime they brushed against each other.

She had first noticed her body reacting this way when she started helping him at his place of work. Anytime she gave him a file and their hands brushed against each other, it was there. Like lightning, it would shoot up her arm and spread through her body. It made her feel warm. She had thought that it was all her imagination because she was crushing on him and that it would disappear with time, but she was mistaken.

There was a kind of tension sizzling in the kitchen as they worked together in sync. Small smiles were exchanged between them. He would give her a smirk anytime he caught her staring at him, and she would blush. It was like a push and pull game until Rebecca came in and everything got cut off like it was never there.

"Are you both going to sleep here because of pancakes? Everyone is hungry”. Rebecca complained as she walked into the kitchen, dragging her feet on the tiled floor.

Hunter and Melody broke out of the sweet atmosphere and Hunter turned around to glare at Rebecca, “stop dragging your feet, walk properly”. He hates the sound.

Rebecca rolled her eyes as she took a stool and dragged it to close where Melody was, “ Is that the only thing you heard? I said I am hungry and everyone else is also hungry”.

" I'm cooking for myself, not you or everyone else”. Hunter told her as he flipped the last pancake before turning off the gas.

"The food you have prepared is enough to feed the whole house and there would still be some left”. Rebecca snorted as she reached out to get a pancake.

"They can come and get the pancakes. It's ready”. Melody told Rebecca.

" I don't think they would want to come here. You can go and give them theirs”. Rebecca told Melody with a mouth filled with pancakes.

Hunter's face wrinkled in distaste at his sister's behavior of speaking with food in her mouth. No matter how many times he corrected her, she never listened, “eat first before speaking”.

"Yeah, whatever”. Rebecca snorted.

"I would go and give them their food”. Melody has already come to a conclusion that Hunter was the reason the girls were too afraid to enter the kitchen. She put it at the back of her mind to ask them why they were scared of him. Something must have happened, and she wanted to know what it was.

Hunter frowned when he heard what she said about going to give the other girls their food. He did not want her to be a people pleaser, but he knew that she lacked confidence. She might just see it as her going to give her new friend's food, but he wasn't seeing it like that. She was going to be their Luna, and she was going to be like a mother to them.

He admired the way she had firmly held Arianna and stopped her from licking off her blood from her fingers. He also liked the way she had wanted to clean and bandaged up the wound, but what he did not like was the fact that she wanted to serve them after cooking for them.

"Ask them to come and get their food, Rebecca. Melody is tired and needs to rest”. Hunter told Rebecca, who was stuffing her mouth with pancakes, but his eyes were on Melody.

"You are the reason they are scared of coming in here. They feel like you're a big bad wolf who wants to swallow them whole”. Rebecca said, her mouth still filled with pancake as she jumped off her stool and walked out to call the girls.

"Big bad wolf?”. Melody murmured to herself as she watched Rebecca trudge out of the kitchen.

"Ignore her words. Her friends are just scared of me as an adult, and I don't understand why”. Hunter shrugged as he picked up a plate of pancakes and a cup of hot coffee from the ones she made.

"Right". She nodded.

"Take your food and pull off your apron, you need to eat now. We are leaving together”.

" Together? To where?”. Melody asked him as she slowly took off her apron.

" You are going to work with me" . He kept his attention on her face, not wanting to miss any reaction. He wanted to know if she would be happy to spend the whole day away from him and in the kitchen, or if she would like to go out with him.

Melody perked up at his words. His place of work was boring, but she was also tired of the four walls of the kitchen and the girl's company. She would like to leave. Arranging his files was no big deal, she could rest for a bit and also stare out at the big city from his floor to ceiling window while he goes out for a meeting. The light in her eyes died when she thought of the competition that was fast approaching.

"The competition is so close”. She murmured.

Hunter nodded in understanding, “yeah, it's close but you need to cool your head before resuming your lesson. All work and no play makes Melody a dull girl”.

Melody felt her heart palpitating in her chest at the way he called her name. The way her name rolled off his tongue, made it sound so beautiful. She found herself nodding in agreement with him.

"I guess I will be going with you then”.

Hunter gave her a slow, sexy smile that made her heart nearly jump out of her chest. He jerked his chin in the direction of her plate of pancakes.

"Grab your food then, we are leaving together, but you need to eat breakfast first”.
