Chapter 19 The Infirmary

Chapter 19 The Infirmary
Rever
I tried to think of an answer to give to Lasmay, but I just couldn't come up with one.
“I don't know,” i finally answered honestly.
“ It's just that Sharon is starting to get comfortable around Mikel, it would be a shock to find out he doesn't even exist.” I explained, realizing as the words were leaving my mouth that I was speaking to both Lasmay and myself.
“ But you can't keep up the charade for long, she's surely going to find out.” He protested.
“ I know,” I agreed.
“ Which is why I'm going to tell her when the time is right.”
He sighed but didn't protest anymore, he had known me for as long as I had known him and he knew that I was as hard headed as a bull, and that when I took a decision, even Shaven himself would be hard-pressed to get me to change my mind.
“ Mr Franson would have to take the back seat for a while though,” he finally said.
“ I have some pack matters to discuss with the alpha.” He added.
With a nod from me, he took the seat across from me and launched into his official voice, Lasmay, Rever’s friend, had been replaced by Mr Tafer, the beta of the golden lamp pack.
Sharon
I was dead, I had to be dead. The goddess had finally answered my prayers it would seem. That was why I was lying on such soft clouds, and the soft murmur I could hear in the distance must be the sound of souls on their way to and from the afterlife. Souls coming home to rest and souls going back to be reborn. Death would also explain the strange dream about a stranger coming to buy me from my family. That must have been my mind’s way of dealing with death. It was strange, but then again my life was pretty strange.
Might as well get up, and look around, I decided and tried to get up. That was when I realized that I couldn't have been farther from the truth, I was very alive. Someone had tied my legs together and tied one of my arms to something above my head.
“ Uh..ohh, I exclaimed out loud, and began to wrack my brain trying to think of what I had done to Vienna this time. I knew it had to be Vienna, she always managed to come up with such innovative punishments. But try as I might, I couldn't remember anything. Or had she beaten me into partial amnesia again, the last time that happened, it had taken me two weeks to regain all my memories.

And where was I, it didn't feel like home, and although I couldn't see much of it, it also didn't look like home.
I gasped and my body gave an involuntary jolt when I realized I was lying on a bed. This divine contraption was a bed!!!!! I had no idea beds were this soft , no wonder it took Vienna so long to get up in the mornings. If I could get a bed these soft even for a single day, I would spend the whole day in bed. I was too busy luxuriating in the awesomeness of the bed to notice footfalls until I heard a voice.
“ It's good to see that you're finally awake, Miss Sharon.” A soft spoken voice that was only a few decibels above a whisper had me sweeping my head around so fast, I felt a crick in my neck. The owner of the voice was a middle aged man with salt and pepper hair and a neatly trimmed goatee.
“ Who are you?” I demanded.
“ Where am I?”
“ Why am I tied up?”
“ How did I get here?” I fired off question after question.
“ My name is Earl, I'm a healer. This is the palace, the infirmary to be specific. One of the Alpha's courtiers brought you to the palace, and a couple of captains from the noble guard brought you to the infirmary. And you're tied up because when we tried to examine you,. you got violent and tried to attack us, so we had to restrain you.” He explained.
“ Does that answer all your questions?” He asked a question of his own.
“ Yes, it does.” I replied.
“ But I'm not being violent or trying to attack you now, do you think you could untie me now?” I asked.
“ Of course,” he replied, shuffling forward to loosen the ropes around my ankles and the one around my wrist.
“ You can't leave yet though, I have no idea what you've been doing to yourself but you're dehydrated and enervated, you need fluids and lots of rest.” He said as he rolled up the ropes and stuck them in his pocket.
“ Whatever you say, after all you're the healer.” I readily agreed.
I wasn't in a hurry to leave anyway. And as to what I had been doing to myself, the poor old man would probably lose his shit if he knew just how over worked I had been over the past several years.
Giving me a soft smile, he turned and left, just as quietly as he had come.
I returned the smile was still smiling to myself, when the enormity of my situation suddenly hit me and immediately wiped the smile off my face to replace it with a scowl.

If I wasn't dead, then everything else wasn't a dream after all.
I had been sold by my own mother, and bought for the alpha to be his slave, maybe sex slave with the possibility of a brutal death. This was not the time to smile, I had no idea what to expect from my new owner. For all I knew this could even be worse than life with my family.
Could I talk Earl into letting me stay here in the infirmary for longer than was necessary. Perhaps I could pretend to be sick. That should buy me a little time.
