“You’re cursed,” my mother spat, her voice dripping with disgust. “I should have fed you to wild boars the day you were born. Only the goddess knows what terrible sin you committed in your past life to deserve this fate.” She lounged on her seat of authority, my younger sister safely beside her, while I knelt on the cold floor like a criminal awaiting judgment. “Please… Mother,” I whispered.
