Chapter 21
“What do you think about a pet photo shoot?”
I asked Logan another question for what was probably the tenth time today and all he did was grunt a yes. Each freaking time. After school, I'd tracked him down to the boy's locker room and had to drag him to an empty class so he wouldn't have time to run and ignore me like he'd been doing.
I sighed once more, leaning back against the chair and letting my head fall back. This was getting old. “Would you please stop grunting like a wounded lion and talk to me, for goodness’ sake?”
“I am talking to you” was his response, which was also a low grumble.
Seriously, this was how it had been for the past two days. I understood he was still annoyed about the cafeteria thing with Trent and had made it a point of duty to ignore me, but it was just exhausting now. We had to put together our ideas about how we would raise money for the shelter and we weren’t going to get anywhere with him being a grouch.
“You know what I mean. You’re angry at me. Let it out.”
“Why? So you run to your ex-boyfriend and cry to him about how we’re not ‘serious’?” he snapped.
I winced; couldn’t help it. Well, at least he was actually talking to me, instead of sulking I would take this to him ignoring me any day. I didn’t know when I began to hate Logan ignoring me but it happened.
“That wasn’t what I said.”
“How come that’s what your ex-boyfriend heard?”
“Would you stop saying that word?”
He gave me a look.
“Ex-boyfriend. I already know that. Stop ringing it in my ears.”
He tore his gaze from mine, going back to whatever it was he was doing on his phone. I let out another sigh, intentionally forgetting to mention that while he had been sulking, Trent was being the perfect gentleman, charming his way back into my life. Since Logan hadn’t picked me up yesterday, he did. He’d driven under the speed limit, unlike Logan and had even held open the passenger door for me.
While all that was sweet and nice, it wasn’t what I wanted. Besides, I didn’t think Trent was being other thing other than what he was so there wasn’t really any extra effort put into his actions. Even if they were, I meant what I’d said to him that night. Just because he was back didn’t mean we would resume the relationship we had.
“I just wish you wouldn’t keep things in. If we’re going to do this, then you have to talk to me.”
When he stared at me for a few moments, I knew he was trying to figure out what I meant, just as I knew the exact moment he did.
“Is that really how you feel?” he finally asked, his lips pursing in a straight line. “You really think we’re not serious?”
“I don’t know,” I told him. “Are we? I mean, we went from being enemies to exchanging saliva in such a short time and you haven’t even asked me to be your girlfriend. I didn’t want to be presumptuous and then realize I was wasting my time later on but I also didn’t want to say anything.”
He raised a brow. “I was supposed to ask? Well, if we’re not dating, then what have we been doing all this while?”
I rolled my eyes. “Have you even asked anyone to be your girlfriend before?”
He shook his head and I could see that he was serious. “I never had to. There were just so many girls. All I had to do was pick one.”
“Ah,” I nodded because I couldn’t really blame him for having such an inflated ego. It obviously didn’t get big because he wanted it to. I blamed his ridiculously good looks and all the women that have thrown themselves at him for it. “I see.”
A hand shot out to run through his dark mane, his pink lips puckered in a small pout that almost made me laugh. “I’m sorry. I should’ve asked.”
When he gave me that sheepish look, I really couldn’t stay angry at him for too long. “You should’ve, but it’s okay.”
Then he was in front of me, grabbing the closest seat and plopping down on it. I saw the humor in his eyes and burst out laughing because I knew what he was about to do.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” I said, chuckling.
“Why not?” He licked his lower lip teasingly and I forced myself to focus on something other than his mouth. It had been too long since he kissed me. I missed it. “No better time than the present.”
“Not when I’m expecting it, no. You can do it at your own time, maybe when I’ve let my guard down.”
He huffed. “You’ve got to stop raining on my parade, Hale. You’re beginning to make me look like a fool.”
I drew him closer to me for a kiss and he obliged, letting our lips do a small dance together before our tongues locked. I opened my mouth for him, sighing as his warm tongue slipped in and explored the dark corners of my mouth like an explorer searching for a treasure. My body sang a sweet rhythm that did wicked things to my lower stomach, and when his strong hands wrapped themselves around me, bringing me forward so that I was sitting on his thighs, I melted into him.
Kissing Logan was a different kind of high. It broke my concentration and caused me to focus only on him. I couldn’t get enough; it was a fix. My fix. I didn’t think about all the ways I was skeptical about our relationship. About how a voice kept telling me I would be like those other girls after two months of getting hooked on his kissed. I refused to wonder what it was he saw that made him want to date me. I wasn’t flashy or beautiful like his usual girlfriends, like Yvonne.
I was just me.
Plain old Lexi Hale.
When he pulled away and rested his forehead against mine, our chests heaving with heavy breaths as we tried to catch our breaths, I wondered how long it would take him to get over whatever it was he was currently feeling.
“Penny for your thoughts,” he murmured against my lips, his hot breath fanning my face.
“You,” I replied, pecking his lips. “Just you.”
“I think about you too, every freaking time. I can’t get you out of my head.”
I gave him a small chuckle, “Sounds exhausting.”
“You have no idea. Will you be my girlfriend?”
My breath hitched at the question, then I chuckled because he had taken me unaware and that was exactly what I’d asked him to do.
I kissed him again. And again. “Yes.” I whispered, grabbing his face in my hands and kissing the hell out of him. “Fucking yes.”
