Chapter 120: So You've Been Busy Wooing Your Wife

The silver-grey stretch Lincoln sped through the icy winter night.

Joshua, cigar in one hand and flipping through the Summit Bank's financial reports from recent years with the other, reported the progress of a merger to Benjamin earnestly.

Benjamin sat gracefully, legs crossed. He listened to Joshua while his attention drifted to his phone screen, which displayed his chat with Sophia.

Benjamin, [Have you had dinner?]

Benjamin, [I'll be home late tonight.]

Benjamin, [It's been five days. Can you not lock the master bedroom door tonight?]

Benjamin sent messages to Sophia every few hours, but she never replied.

In just five days, he experienced the sting of being neglected.

"Benjamin, are you listening to me?"

Joshua was annoyed, halting his report.

He put so much effort into their business, and Benjamin couldn't even give a perfunctory reply and just stared at his phone.

Daniel glanced at them from the driver's seat through the rear-view mirror.

Seizing the moment under Daniel's gaze, Joshua snatched Benjamin's phone to see the messages.

"Joshua!"

Reading the chat between Benjamin and Sophia, Joshua spat out in disgust, "Oh, no wonder Daniel complained about you not focusing lately. So you've been busy wooing your wife!"

Benjamin shot Daniel a sharp glance.

Daniel hastily explained, "Mr... Mr. Walker, I didn't say that. Please don't put me in trouble."

Joshua wanted to taunt Benjamin again but was silenced by a fierce look from him.

"Give me my phone back!" Benjamin snatched it forcefully.

Checking his phone, he saw still no reply from Sophia, then sourly put his phone back in his pocket.

Joshua leaned in, "So, you've decided not to divorce?"

Benjamin elbowed him, and Joshua dodged swiftly.

"Hey, I'm just asking."

Benjamin scoffed, mimicking his tone, "You hope I get a divorce?"

Joshua clicked his tongue.

He and his men had been covering for Benjamin when he played a gigolo.

Benjamin was ungrateful!

Joshua straightened up for a serious talk.

"Does she know you want to take over the Summit Bank? Will she agree to you targeting her father?"

Benjamin frowned deeply, his gaze chilling as he stared at Joshua.

"She transferred 2% of the Summit Bank's shares to me. She must know what I intend."

Joshua couldn't comprehend, "Although Sophia is the illegitimate daughter of the Roberts family, she grew up there. Could her relationship with Carter be that cold?"

Benjamin scoffed, remembering what Carter and Charlotte did to Sophia.

His expression turned even colder.

She left Pinecrest without a backward glance.

Probably she no longer cared about the Roberts family or even him.

As he dwelt on this, Benjamin's mood soured again.

Joshua chuckled lightly, drawing lazily on his cigar, "Need a tip or two from me?"

Benjamin raised an eyebrow, not really in the mood, but after a week of rejections, he was desperate.

Sophia had changed the locks on the master bedroom when he was away and kept the keys to herself.

He'd been relegated to the guest room for a week!

Benjamin leaned closer, "Let's hear it."

Though he doubted Joshua, listening wouldn't hurt.

Seeing Benjamin so humbled, Joshua couldn't help but laugh.

Benjamin immediately ordered Daniel to kick Joshua out of the car.

"Alright!" Joshua hurriedly spoke up, "Cater to her interests!"

Benjamin felt Joshua was stating the obvious.

Joshua clicked his tongue, "Don't look at me like that. I mean it. Women need to be wooed with details. Make her see your attention to her interests. That's how you win her over."

Benjamin's expression showed his frustration.

He was clueless and unwilling to learn.

Joshua suggested, "Sophia likes painting, right? Give her paints and brushes. She'll be thrilled."

Benjamin was skeptical but couldn't deny Joshua's point.

He had once bought a mousse cake for Sophia, not knowing her lactose intolerance, and she was so angry she'd rather freeze in the garden than be alone with him.

Benjamin nodded, "Okay."

The stretch Lincoln gradually stopped at the Walker Mansion.

As Joshua got out, Benjamin added, "I won't interfere with the merger for now. Carter has noticed something."

"Okay, I'll handle it," Joshua felt it best Benjamin stayed out.

Before leaving, Joshua looked back, "By the way, Carter's ex-wife is returning to the country."

Touching his chin, he speculated, "She might be back for the merger, or because of Charlotte. Be careful. That old witch won't bring peace."

Benjamin nodded indifferently and instructed Daniel to drive away.
