Chapter 74 Heartache for Her

Chapter 74 Heartache for Her

Hearing what Dr. Bruce said, Chris's eyes widened in disbelief.

He pointed at Angelo and asked, "Dr. Bruce, are you sure this is your boss? He's just a low-level employee at Smith Group. How could he possibly afford to run a nursing home?"

Dr. Bruce paused for a moment, then nodded with certainty.

He thought to himself that this Chris must be blind. How could someone with Angelo's presence possibly be a low-level employee?

Chris didn't believe it. "But I clearly saw him at Smith Group that day. He was just an incompetent low-level employee!"

"Mr. Cooper, what are you talking about? Mr. Smith at Smith Group is..."

Dr. Bruce wanted to explain, but Angelo interrupted him. "Dr. Bruce, no need to explain to unimportant people."

Angelo liked to keep a low profile. Even the media had never interviewed him - he always sent his assistant instead.

He liked to keep work and personal life separate, and the current situation clearly didn't fall under work.

Besides, Chris didn't deserve to know his identity.

When Joanna was willing to turn her attention to him, Chris would naturally learn what kind of person he had lost.

Chris looked at Angelo, then at Joanna, and asked, "You knew too? So from the start, you were just looking for a rich guy, right? No wonder you were so eager to get divorced. Turns out you've been a gold digger all along!"

Back then, she climbed into his bed for money, and now she'd already picked out her next marriage target!

Joanna, you're really something!

Chris's chest felt like someone had punched it. He cursed angrily, "You materialistic woman! Marrying you was the biggest mistake I ever made! Joanna, you disgust me!"

Joanna hadn't done anything, yet she got yelled at.

And this was in Sandra's hospital room. With a dark expression, she raised her hand and slapped Chris across the face.

After leaving a handprint on Chris's face, she said coldly, "This is a hospital room. If you want to fight, get out. Don't wake up my mom!"

Chris stared at her, unable to believe he'd been hit.

In fact, he couldn't even accept that Joanna didn't love him anymore.

Everything that had happened recently - Chris hadn't had time to think about any of it rationally.

He wanted to argue back, but Angelo and Dr. Bruce had already grabbed him from both sides and dragged him out.

The hospital room door closed. Angelo said coldly, "Her mother's in trouble, and she's already upset. If I were you, I wouldn't say hurtful things to her at a time like this. She used to love you so much, gave up her job and her achievements to become your wife, and this is how you treat her?"

Chris looked at Angelo in shock, wanting to argue back, but clearly knowing that every word Angelo said was true.

And Angelo wasn't going to let him off that easily. He continued pressing, "When she was sad and desperate, she needed your comfort and help, but all you saw was Cynthia. You even put her down. So why wouldn't she choose divorce? You think she's materialistic because you've never bothered to find out where she spends her money! Why don't you go home and ask the servants at your villa who's been paying their wages and buying household supplies!"

Angelo felt it was unfair to Joanna - meeting such a self-centered bad man in her best years!

Maybe Chris looked good on the outside and was respected by everyone.

But at home, he wasn't even a real man!

Dr. Bruce listened from the side, thinking Angelo's scolding was absolutely satisfying!

"Although I haven't known Miss Jones for long, she's devoted to her mother, willing to deal with people she doesn't like for her mother's sake. She's positive and loves life, brings different flowers to visit her mother every day, and cooks really well. A woman like that - I think she'll never lack admirers." Dr. Bruce added.

The Joanna they described felt somewhat unfamiliar to Chris.

Maybe he had never really understood Joanna.

At this moment, he felt defeated.

But as a man, especially facing a rival, Chris didn't want to admit defeat.

He raised his head and said defiantly, "Even if I did wrong, she still loves me! No matter how much you do, she'll never like you! As long as I reach out my hand, Joanna will come crawling like a dog. She can't leave me!"

"Is that so?" Angelo's eyes turned even colder as he raised his arm and punched Chris.

"Who she likes is her freedom, and I respect that. But you shouldn't use her feelings to put her down and mock her, to show off how superior you are! Mr. Cooper, do you know why Smith Group won't work with you anymore?"

Chris had wanted to hit back, but hearing that last sentence, he froze.

He looked at Angelo, suddenly realizing he might have underestimated Angelo's status.

If he were just a low-level employee, how would he know that Chris had gone to Smith Group seeking cooperation, and the reason he was rejected!

He thought about Angelo's last name. "What's your relationship with Smith Group?"

Angelo wiped his hands with a tissue and threw it in the trash. "You don't need to know. Dr. Bruce, I don't think the nursing home should have people who affect patients' emotions."

Dr. Bruce immediately understood and took out his phone to call security.

Chris didn't want to be embarrassed like this. He struggled and shouted, "Who are you really? Joanna is my wife! You can't kick me out! She invited me here. I'm a patient's family member!"

The security guards were strong and firmly escorted him outside, then closed the door.

Chris anxiously pounded on the door. After a few hits, feeling embarrassed, he called Joanna instead.

But the ringtone had barely started when it was hung up.

Furious, he cursed on the spot for a long time before finally leaving in disgrace.

Angelo's face didn't show any satisfaction from venting. Instead, he felt even more sorry for what Joanna had been through.

With such a disrespectful husband, how much had Joanna endured in the past before she became determined to divorce?

He stood at the door for a while, lost in thought, when Joanna had already opened the hospital room door and walked out.

Her eyes were red - she'd probably been crying inside.

"I'm sorry, Angelo. I made you witness another embarrassing scene."

Angelo spoke with sympathy, "You just met a terrible person, that's all. Joanna, Mrs. Jones wants you to be happy, but she probably doesn't want happiness that comes from your suffering. When she wakes up, why don't you have a good talk with her?"

Joanna pressed her lips together. How could Sandra think that tolerating things for the family was suffering?

She valued harmony with her husband and children so much. When she woke up, she'd probably just scold her out of anger.

"I... I'll try."

Joanna lied. Angelo could tell, but didn't want to call her out.

Joanna was already hurting enough. He wanted to do something to make her happy, not continue to expose her pain.
