Chapter 27 She Went Too Far This Time
"Joanna, calm down. Don't let the drug take over."
But Joanna was already urgently kissing Chris's lips, her fingers sliding over his Adam's apple, completely restless.
Angelo held back again and again. He didn't want to be with Joanna under these circumstances. He preferred that Joanna be clear-headed and willing.
In the end, Angelo gritted his teeth, wrapped Joanna in a blanket, and carried her out.
When Joanna woke up in the hospital, she still didn't understand what had happened. She only remembered that Henry seemed to have drugged her.
At that moment, a figure entered from outside the door.
"Angelo?"
Angelo had just finished dealing with some matters and rushed over to check on Joanna's condition. There was still a cut at the corner of his mouth.
"You're hurt?" Joanna froze, then it hit her. "Did my situation drag you into trouble again?"
Angelo shook his head. "Chris wanted to force himself on you. I couldn't stand by, so I got into a fight with him. Don't worry, it's just a scratch. It's already been treated."
Joanna finally pieced it together. Rage shot through her, turning her hands ice-cold. Her voice shook. "Henry set me up again! He slipped something into my drink... wanted to smooth things over with Chris by handing me over like some party favor."
Henry didn't see her as a daughter at all, but rather as goods that could be sent away at any time!
Whenever Chad got into trouble, whenever the Jones family's interests needed her as bargaining chip, Henry would sacrifice her!
Before, Henry had only coaxed or threatened her, but this time, he actually used her mother!
For Chad's sake, he was going to stop Sandra's treatment! Sandra was his wife, too!
A sense of desolation surged in Joanna's heart, and she felt so sad she could barely breathe.
Angelo knew how troublesome this father-son duo of Henry and Chad was. While angry, he was also thinking of solutions for Joanna.
"Henry should have already gotten what he wanted. My assistant found out that Chris transferred one million to Henry's private account before your incident."
Just as she thought!
Joanna was certain Henry had used that money to calm down Judy's family.
He spent the money from selling his daughter so freely!
Angelo asked, "What do you plan to do about your father and brother?"
Joanna shook her head with a bitter smile. "I don't know. They'll never give up profiting from me."
"I looked into it beforehand. Your dad doesn't know how to run a business, and your brother is always getting into trouble. The only reason Jones Corp hasn't gone under all these years is because Chris has been sending you projects and money. If you divorce Chris, Jones Corp going bankrupt is just a matter of time," Angelo said calmly, sharing what his assistant had found. "I think you should take control of Jones Corp's shares yourself, bring in professionals, and keep your family from making a mess."
Joanna had been immersed in sadness, but hearing Angelo's suggestion, light gradually appeared in her eyes. "That's actually a good idea, but how can I get them to agree to hand over the shares to me?"
Angelo touched her head and smiled. "Don't worry about it. Once you divorce Chris and he stops helping, with the way your dad runs things, it won't be long before they come running to you, asking you to fix everything."
That's right.
The most important thing was to divorce Chris first.
Henry and Chad were hateful, but wasn't their main purpose to please Chris?
Only by completely cutting ties with this man could she live the life she wanted sooner.
Joanna smiled. "Got it, Angelo. I'll call Peter and have him start collecting proof of Chris cheating so I can file for divorce."
Angelo nodded and took care of her while she rested. Everything would have to wait until she recovered.
Fortunately, Joanna had only drunk a little of the drugged water, so she only needed to be observed for one day before being discharged.
Cynthia had just finished refining the details of her design draft when she received a call from the police station. As soon as she heard Chris was in trouble, she immediately put down her work and rushed to the station.
"Joanna actually dared to hit you?" Cynthia touched the wound on Chris's face with concern. "Chris, she went too far this time. No matter what, you're still her husband!"
Chris woke up to find himself at the police station, being treated as a rapist. He was already irritated, and hearing Cynthia say this made him even more fired up.
A nearby police officer said disapprovingly, "Marital rape is still rape. Without a letter of understanding from his wife, Mr. Cooper, you cannot leave."
Chris quickly had Cynthia contact Joanna. It took four calls before she answered.
"Joanna, get to the police station right now and provide a letter of understanding. I don't have time for your nonsense!"
He was a CEO with many company matters waiting for him. He had only pushed aside his work early to go to the hotel because Joanna was supposed to apologize.
Who knew some random man would show up and ruin everything!
Angelo happened to be helping Joanna with discharge procedures and wasn't in the room.
Although Joanna hadn't discussed with Angelo how to handle things after calling the police, she could guess his thinking.
She replied directly, "I'm the victim here. You attempted rape, and I refuse to forgive you!"
Chris was almost amused by her refusal to acknowledge what happened.
"So you weren't the one coming onto me? Joanna, you sent me the room info, and you were the one who started things in bed! Now you claim I forced you—did you forget hotels have security cameras?"
Joanna had no idea and checked her phone, only then discovering the message Henry had sent.
With this evidence, the police might think she and Henry had conspired to frame Chris.
It seemed she still had to make a trip to the police station.
"I understand. I'll be right there."
Chris snorted coldly and hung up.
After completing the discharge procedures, Joanna told Angelo and then contacted Peter to go to the police station.
This was a good opportunity. If Chris were willing to sign the divorce agreement, she wouldn't have to suffer between him and her father anymore.
At the station, an officer led Joanna to a room to see Chris.
He was sitting in a chair, with a dark expression, while Cynthia, beside him, offered water and medicine, looking distressed.
Seeing Joanna, Chris wanted to get angry, but it pulled at the wound on his face, making his expression contort in pain.
Joanna stated her terms first. "I can give you a letter of understanding, but you have to sign the divorce papers and agree not to go after Angelo for hitting you."
