Chapter 125 Design of Public Welfare Works
Joanna was in a great mood when she shared this news with Victor. After exchanging contact information, she didn't pay much attention to what happened next.
She started focusing on her work.
As the workday was ending, remembering she needed to find a reason to get Chad released, Joanna made a trip to the company.
Under Lyle's management, Jones Corp had become more and more like a proper company, with all its businesses slowly turning profitable.
Though compared to the previous losses and compensation amounts, this was just a tiny speck among countless stars, they were still satisfied.
"Although Chad misused company funds, he was also deceived. I'm sorry that my personal matters caused such huge losses for the company. Now I want to issue a letter of understanding and guarantee in the company's name to get him released first. Lyle, I hope you can help me convince the shareholders."
Jones Corp actually had very few shareholders. During Henry's management, most shareholders couldn't see any hope of profit and withdrew their investments.
So Henry ended up being the person with the highest percentage of shares.
Now all these shares were under Joanna's name, and the power naturally transferred to her.
Lyle wasn't worried about the shareholders' side, but with a serious expression, he confirmed Joanna's decision once more.
"If we just let Chad out like this, the company employees might be unhappy, which could lead to negative work attitudes and encourage bad behavior. Miss Jones, what are your plans for Chad going forward?"
Joanna couldn't tell Lyle directly about the special blood type yet, so she hesitated before saying, "I have reasons why I must do this. For now, Chad won't be involved in any company projects. I just need this as a cover to fool Henry."
Lyle understood. "That makes it easier then. Don't worry too much, Miss Jones. I'll have legal draft the letter of understanding right away."
Joanna nodded. After waiting in the lounge for a bit, Lyle had already taken care of it.
She wasn't in a hurry to send the letter of understanding to Henry. Instead, she planned to wait until after the charity competition ended.
Let Chad and Henry reform themselves properly in detention for now and stop causing her trouble.
On the weekend, Joanna found a chance to go abroad again to confirm the final details of the draft design with Linda.
"I didn't expect you to complete this piece so well. However, the charity competition requires submitting the sample garment along with the design. There's only one week left, and Katie suddenly got sick and can't supervise the sample production. Joanna, do you have someone you trust on your end?"
Linda had been discharged from the hospital but was still recovering, her face still somewhat pale.
Joanna poured her a glass of water and thought of someone: "I have a clothing studio in the country that I've worked with many times. I trust their abilities. If Ms. Stone doesn't have anyone available, I'll ask them to help make the competition piece."
"Good, let your friend do it then. All the tailors I know are already booked. You know, too many people have their eyes on this charity competition. I heard William added two more assistants and they're working full force on their competition entry too. They seem very confident."
Linda sighed as she spoke.
It wasn't that she didn't trust her student's abilities, but the pressure that should have been on her shoulders had been taken over by her student, which made her feel guilty.
Even if this piece didn't win first place in the end, she would accept it and find other partners to promote Joanna's clothing designs afterward.
She couldn't let her student's hard work go to waste.
"It's okay, Ms. Stone. I'm very confident in our work too. Since you're recovering, don't worry about things that will happen later. Taking care of yourself is the most important thing right now." Joanna placed her hand on Linda's shoulder, her voice gentle and comforting.
Both of them had personalities that forgot to eat when they got busy. They discussed for a long time, and if Linda hadn't been so tired her eyelids couldn't stay open, Joanna would have wanted to keep working with her teacher to perfect the final design.
After this quick meeting, Joanna returned home and contacted Yvonne.
Fortunately, Yvonne didn't have many client orders recently, so she could take on the rush job for Joanna's piece.
"But one week is still pretty tight. I'll work overtime to get it done. Don't worry, Joanna!"
Joanna handed her the coffee she'd bought: "Thanks to you and your team for the hard work. This coffee is a small token of my appreciation. Everyone, please help yourselves!"
Someone from the studio immediately came out happily to take some.
After discussing the specific timeline and delivery date for the garment, Joanna left.
She didn't notice that someone had been watching her from a distance the whole time.
Only after Joanna left did Cynthia push up her sunglasses and walk toward Yvonne's studio.
Yvonne remembered this person. Although her good relationship with Joanna made her somewhat dislike Cynthia, she still maintained basic courtesy.
"Cynthia, can I help you? Didn't you already have your wedding dress completed somewhere else?"
Previously, when Cynthia was choosing her wedding dress, she wanted to custom order an additional outfit. But after the unpleasant incident with Joanna at Yvonne's studio, she lost interest in Yvonne's work.
So she chose another place and ordered two pieces there.
After Yvonne worked hard to finish the piece and delivered it to Hillside Villa, she ran into people from the other shop. Cynthia criticized her work harshly, which upset Yvonne so much she couldn't eat properly for several days after returning.
Cynthia didn't notice Yvonne's resentment and just moved closer to ask, "What did that person just order from you? Tell me, and I'll give you a tip."
"A few outfits. Miss Jones often has clothes made here. She even came to our studio to learn for a while so she could make clothes for her husband herself. Miss Jones cares about every step of the process for her clothes." What Yvonne said wasn't exactly a lie, and she finished with a smile at Cynthia.
But Cynthia felt her smile was somewhat mocking.
Was she implying that Cynthia didn't care about Chris? That she'd never made clothes for her fiancé and wasn't willing to learn?
"I'm busy with work, and Chris supports my career, so I leave clothes and household matters to the servants. Miss Jones just doesn't know how to enjoy life. With so many servants at home, why does she still do things herself? She's too foolish."
When Cynthia said this, she didn't realize she was also insulting Yvonne, who worked hard making clothes.
While she was criticizing Joanna for doing servants' work despite being Mrs. Cooper, she was also putting down Yvonne by treating her like a servant.
Yvonne's expression immediately soured. With a cold face, she said, "There's always a trade-off between career and family. As long as Cynthia doesn't mind being neglected by Mr. Cooper someday and can still feel happy about it, that's fine. I still have work to do here. If you're not ordering clothes, please don't stand here blocking our business."
