"W--what are you doing here?" Rose pushed Robert's body away from the inn room door. He didn't expect that the man would finally find out where she was hiding. Rose steadied Robert with misgivings, she was worried that the man would force her to take Kenzie from her, this time. "You hid my son in a place like this?" Robert stared disdainfully at the door behind Rose. The woman swallowed hard to shake off her guilt and nervousness. She also knew that this inn was far from appropriate for a small child to leave. "It's only temporary, I'll find a place to live for all of us," she answered firmly with a smug look in her eyes. "Leave the child to me, Rose, and your burden will be reduced by one." "Give up? Didn't you ever want him, why do you suddenly want Kenzie so much now?" Rose made a cynical noise. She didn't want Kenzie to hear about her fight with Robert. Rose hoped the boy would not recognize this handsome doctor as a father who had neglected his presence in this world. "Don't bring that up again, Rose! Ruby makes me unsure if I'm the only man in her life." Robert launched an attack in his self-defense. "But she's pregnant with your child…" Rose groaned. "While her heart loves someone else?" The handsome doctor smiled sarcastically. "How can I be sure if the child is mine?" Rose was tired of arguing with Robert. The man who is a doctor can't do the test since the beginning of pregnancy. Other than just an attempt at self-defense, what else could she think of Robert. The girl walked away leaving Robert just like that. There are more important things than just arguing with this selfish man. Rose needed a new place to live and a job urgently. "Rose! I'm talking to you!" Robert felt angry at the attitude of the woman who ignored him. Again, Robert did something that Rose really didn't like. The man pulled her hand, so that the girl again collided with the man's chest. Rose growled in anger, feeling the pain as one of Robert's hands gripped her arm. "Let go of me! You selfish doctor, you are so rude!" Rose smacked Robert's arm and he felt his palms hurt from the strength of the man's muscles. "Why do you always dodge when I'm talking!" Robert growled angrily. The blue and black eyes stared fiercely at each other. It was clear that there was an aura of conflict in their eyes. The two stubborn people who did not intend to give in to each other but to defeat, felt that they were the most correct. "Aunt Rose?" The tiny call took Rose by surprise. Instantly Rose's eyes turned soft and docile when she heard Kenzie's tiny voice. The woman smiled sweetly by tilting her body, staring at Kenzie who was behind Robert's back. "Kenzie, why are you out, honey?" Rose immediately moved away from Robert when she felt the man's grip soften. "Aunt with whom? Did that person hurt you?" Kenzie immediately hugged Rose who walked over to her. "He--" Rose looked at Dulce questioning why the boy had come out of the room. The middle-aged woman could only stand still with her shoulders slightly raised. She sighed and looked worriedly at Robert who was behind Rose. The look in Dulce's eyes made Rose understand that Kenzie had overheard their bickering. "Hello, Kenzie." Rose straightened up at the sound of Robert's friendly voice greeting the boy in his arms. "Uncle Robert?" A sinister smile spread across Rose's face when she heard how Kenzie called the man. "Yes, Kenzie, I'm Robert." "Uncle is coming with Daddy?" Kenzie looked at Robert expectantly. Rose could see the light in the man's eyes change for a moment. She laughed inwardly remembering of course the feeling of the handsome doctor was slightly scratched. If only he really loved Kenzie as his son, then he would never be willing to hear his flesh and blood calling other people as father, while calling himself uncle. "Conrad is having a vacation to Europe with Sean, they're not back yet." Robert crouched down in front of Kenzie. "Oh, he didn't invite you?" Robert deliberately took advantage of the shock he saw on Kenzie's face. He intended to take the boy's sympathy and distance him from Conrad's charisma. "Conrad, didn't you say goodbye to Kenzie the other day…" Rose reminded the boy. "Yes that's right." Kenzie nodded firmly. "Uncle Robert, what are you doing here? Do you want to stay with me too?" The child's innocent question made Rose turn to look at Robert. She saw clearly that the man was silent. The fierce look in his eyes that she had seen before, now turned soft when he faced Kenzi. "No. Uncle just happened to be passing by and saw you guys here." "Ooo… do any of Uncle's friends live in this place too?" Kenzie approached Robert and whispered. "Uncomfortable, smelly room." Hearing Kenzie's report, Robert, who had already taken off his mask, grinned widely. He stroked the boy's hair before finally making an offer. "What if Kenzie comes with Uncle Robert. We can live in Grandma Sean's big and cozy house. You remember that place, don't you?" The man gently patted his son's hand. "Kenzie can play to her heart's content, swim and eat good food." Rose's body stiffened. Robert's offer was too tempting and could easily captivate someone's heart. Rose was afraid that Kenzie would say yes and she had no reason to say no, when at this moment the boy really needed it. Kenzie stared at Rose for a moment, as if asking for permission. However, Rose's silence made the little boy look hesitant to make a decision. "No, ah! Kenzie stays here with Grandpa. Maybe next time when Sean comes home, Kenzie will stay there again," the boy said seriously. Rose's heart was relieved. She immediately extended her hand which Kenzie quickly greeted. Rose gripped that tiny hand tightly, the most precious treasure she had. "Kenzie is coming with Aunt Rose, we're going for a walk while we look for a new place to live." "Is that true?" Kenzie looked at Rose happily. "Bye Uncle Robert, Kenzie wants to go for a walk first." The boy waved his hand and left Robert who was still in a squatting position. The grown woman and the little boy walked side by side happily. Rose chuckled as she listened to Kenzie's cheerful chatter about his friend's birthday party at school. They continued to walk away without noticing Robert's empty eyes watching them leave. The man then slowly followed Rose and Kenzie, quietly from behind, down a suburban street he had never walked before.
