Chapter 80 Chapter 27.2
Meanwhile, Desmond sat in his office, staring intently at the documents spread across his desk. The sharp tap of knuckles on his door broke his focus, and he allowed the person to enter without looking up.
“Sir,” Jake said, immediately catching his attention.
“What do you need?” Desmond’s voice was cold, serious, he didn’t even bother lifting his eyes from the papers. He finally set his work aside and removed his eyeglasses.
“Still no news?” he asked.
Jake shook his head. Desmond leaned back in his chair, releasing a long, frustrated breath.
“It’s been two years, Jake. Two years and they still haven’t found anything? I think it’s time you look for another detective who can actually find my wife. I only asked them to find one person. Why is that so hard?” His voice sharpened, irritation simmering beneath every word.
Jake lowered his gaze respectfully.
“If nothing is happening with the people I hired, then I don’t need them anymore. Make sure you find someone better. Someone capable of finding Heaven.” Desmond’s tone held absolute authority.
“Yes, sir. I will.” Jake handed him the documents he brought. Desmond looked at them blankly before rubbing his temple, visibly drained, as Jake left the room.
“It’s been two years, Heaven,” he whispered to himself. “Where are you?”
Since the day she disappeared, Desmond had been searching non-stop. Every day he hoped for news, any clue, but there was nothing. Nothing for two entire years.
A few minutes later, Jake returned with a small envelope.
“What is that?” Desmond asked.
“An invitation, sir. For the biggest business conference happening at a five-star hotel here in Manila. Businessmen and businesswomen from all over the world will be attending.”
Desmond nodded, uninterested. He shut his eyes tightly.
‘I hope I find you soon. I hope you show yourself to me. I miss you so much, Heaven.’
Even now, he couldn’t forget her. Not for a single day.
He took the invitation and placed it in a drawer but the drawer was already full. He opened another one beneath his desk, only to freeze when he saw the divorce papers Heaven had once sent him.
He shut it immediately.
His mind was already burdened enough without revisiting that painful moment. Sometimes he wondered… if their child hadn’t died, what kind of life would he have now? What kind of family would they be?

Elsewhere, Shiermy’s phone rang. The moment she saw who it was, she answered.
“What?” she said curtly.
“Sir Desmond told me to stop looking for his wife, ma’am,” the detective reported. “I think he found someone else to take over the job. I was only able to speak to his secretary. After paying me earlier, he told me to stop searching for Heaven Rosales.”
Shiermy sighed.
“Find out who the new detective will be and bring that person to me,” she ordered before ending the call.
She was the reason Desmond’s search had gone nowhere. He didn’t know that his own mother was sabotaging every attempt to find Heaven.

Inside her condo, Heaven stayed with her child and the baby’s sitter. Despite everything, she continued managing the Velasquez family business in Germany, now remotely, since she was in Manila.
After finishing her work, she folded her laptop and stepped out of her small home office. She headed straight to the kitchen to get water and something to eat.
She paused in front of the large glass wall overlooking the city. Dusk was settling in, and lights were slowly illuminating the streets below. As she stared out at the view, her mind drifted back to her past struggles. She never imagined she would reach this point in her life.
She wouldn’t deny it, everything she had now, she owed to the Velasquez family. Her child was her greatest blessing. Despite her broken marriage, she never severed ties with Desmond’s family. They meant too much to her, and she was deeply grateful for their kindness.
She may not have been lucky with her husband… but she was blessed with wonderful in-laws who never tolerated Desmond’s wrongdoing.
Jessica emerged from the nursery, interrupting Heaven’s thoughts.
“Is he asleep?” Heaven asked.
“Yes, ma’am,” Jessica replied, and Heaven nodded.
Every day, she thanked God for sparing her child. Despite the heart surgery, everything turned out fine. Her baby could breathe normally, didn’t turn blue, and the doctors assured her the child’s heart was stable now.
The following morning, Heaven’s secretary arrived early at her condo.
“The program starts at 7 p.m., ma’am. We need to be at the venue by 6 or 6:30,” she reminded.
Heaven nodded while sipping her coffee.
“Do you already have something to wear, ma’am? Should I prepare a gown for you?”
“No need. I still have plenty I haven’t worn,” Heaven replied.
The day passed quickly. Heaven hired someone to do her makeup and hair so she wouldn’t spend too much time in front of the mirror. While they worked, she scrolled through her phone, chatting with Aleena on Messenger. She asked if Aleena could attend the event but unfortunately, she couldn’t.
When her makeover was done, Heaven put on a fitted gown that hugged every curve of her body. It revealed her elegant figure, one would never guess she had given birth.
Heaven smiled softly at her reflection. She had come so far. Before, whenever she tried to dress up, she always looked exhausted and older than her age. But money and stability had a way of restoring youth, and peace.
She walked to the nursery and leaned close to her child.
“Hi, baby. Mommy has to go for a while, okay? Be good for your babysitter, hmm? I’ll be back soon,” she whispered with a gentle smile.
“After he finishes his milk later, put him to sleep,” she instructed Jessica, who nodded.
Heaven then headed down the building and got into the car waiting for her at the entrance.
The night was just beginning, unaware that fate was slowly pulling her back toward the man she once loved and lost.
