Chapter 7 Chapter 3.1
I've been living in the Velasquez's house for three days. I'm nervous about what Desmond's reaction will be when he sees me here. After drinking some water, I left the kitchen, but I was surprised when Mariam slapped Desmond, who looked like he had just come home.
"We didn't raise you to abandon your future child, Desmond!" his grandmother shouted angrily. I knew Desmond was wondering what his grandmother was talking about. I wanted to leave, but I couldn't move my feet. What should I do? I’m sure Desmond won’t accept me. If I only had fare to go home, I would just go home.
"What are you talking about, Grandma?" he asked seriously. My heart suddenly leaped when Grandma Mariam looked at me.
"Come here, hija," she called to me. Desmond turned to me. When our eyes met, I immediately looked away. His gaze was serious and cold. I didn't want to approach, but Grandma Mariam pulled me. I felt Desmond's intense stare on me, but I couldn't look at him because his gaze seemed to pierce my soul.
"Don't you remember her? You got her pregnant, Desmond, and whether you like it or not, you will marry her. You need to take responsibility for her and your future child." I was already pinching my fingers because of the nervousness I felt.
"What? You're just kidding, right, grandma?" Desmond replied. Doesn't he remember me? Has he forgotten what happened between us that night?
"Do you think I'm joking? I've already found a wedding planner, organizer, and chef for your wedding. You will be the main person in charge of the wedding because Heaven is pregnant, she can't get tired." I looked at Desmond, who was also looking at me with a frown.
"You can't, grandma, you know I have a girlfriend. I can't get married!" he shouted. I just want to run away from this house and raise my future child alone.
"I don't care! How many times have you proposed to that woman? How many times has she rejected and left you? Where is your girlfriend now? Isn't she gone again to pursue her dreams?! You can't just leave Heaven and your future child!" Grandma Mariam shouted angrily.
"What's all the commotion?" Desmond's mom asked. When she saw her son, she also faced him. "It's good that you came home. I'm sure you recognize Heaven. Her mom brought her here, very angry because you got her daughter pregnant. You two will get married next week." Even I was surprised by what she said. The wedding is next week? Why so fast?
"What? It's too fast if it's next week. Let us think about it first. I'm not sure about this wedding either," I replied. Just from Desmond's voice, I'm already scared. How will I survive every day with him?
"You don't need to think about it anymore. The preparations for your wedding have already begun. Desmond will take responsibility for your future child whether he likes it or not. You need to get married as soon as possible. What do you want? Wait for your stomach to grow before you get married? This is a disgrace to our family. Having a child out of wedlock," Shiermy said seriously. I couldn't speak because of the shock.
"No," Desmond replied firmly, so I looked at him. "I will not marry that woman. I don't even know her. You also know that I have a girlfriend. I will not leave Macie for a woman I don't even know."
"Are you still hoping that Macie will marry you? If you really love Macie, why did you let yourself get another woman pregnant?! You wanted this, Heaven can't create her child alone," Shiermy still said angrily. I don't know what to do anymore. Mom, take me out of here.
"Mom! Are you sure I'm the father of her child? What if this is just her modus to get money from us?! We need to have a DNA test first to know if I'm really the father of her child."
"Okay!" Shiermy agreed. "I will call a doctor right away to conduct a DNA test. Tomorrow, we will have a DNA test and if we prove that you are indeed the father of Heaven's child, you will marry her." Desmond didn't answer. I was just surprised when he pulled me out of the house. He took me to their garden. When he let go of my hand, he faced me. I looked down because he looked very angry.
"What are you doing here? Why didn't you come to me first before my family? What are you planning?" Desmond asked me with emphasis. So, he remembers me. He knows what happened between us. I bravely met his gaze, but I quickly looked away.
"I didn't come here to cause trouble—"
"What do you think you're doing now?! You're forcing me to marry you and take responsibility for your child that I'm not even sure is mine!" I slapped him hard. His teeth gritted because of what I did. I know he's just holding back his anger so he doesn't hurt me.
"You're not sure if the child in my womb is yours? I know you know that you are the first man to touch my body, Mr. Velasquez. I'm not using the child in my womb to extort money from your family either. Talk to your family, it's not my fault if they've already prepared a wedding for the two of us. I don't want this either. My mother just dragged me to come here and if I only had money, I would go home. If you want to stop the wedding, talk to your family," I bravely answered him. I don't like what's coming out of his mouth. He's the first man in my life and then he'll doubt my pregnancy?
I went back into the house and took my belongings. When Shiermy saw me, she quickly blocked me.
"I'm going home. I will raise my future child alone. Don't worry, I won't disturb your family and I won't destroy Desmond's family."
