Chapter 51 Chapter 17.3
The day of the company anniversary arrived, and Desmond hired a make-up artist to prepare Heaven. Desmond was already dressed, he was simply waiting for Heaven to finish. He sat on the sofa reading a magazine, knowing very well how long it takes to prepare a woman. He wasn’t in a hurry.
It was already seven in the evening when Heaven’s makeup was finally done. She put on her gown and looked at herself in the mirror. She stared, almost not recognizing the woman she saw. Her hair was beautifully styled, and her light makeup suited her perfectly.
At first glance, she could easily be mistaken as someone from a wealthy family. Her skin was fair, and with elegant clothes on, her true origins were beautifully hidden. Not that she was ashamed of her background, she didn’t care at all if the other guests judged her.
“You look so beautiful, ma’am,” one of the artists complimented. Heaven smiled.
“Thank you. You’re all so talented. It’s like your hands have magic, I barely recognize myself,” she replied. The makeup artists and hairstylists were delighted.
When everything was set, Heaven approached Desmond. She wore only flat sandals underneath, though they couldn’t be seen because her gown was long.
“Desmond,” she called softly, catching his attention since he was still absorbed in the magazine. Desmond put down what he was reading and looked at her. His gaze traveled over Heaven, despite being pregnant, she still had a beautiful shape. Desmond swallowed, Heaven looked like some kind of goddess standing before him.
The light makeup and hairstyle suited her so well.
“Do you think I look okay?” Heaven asked nervously when Desmond didn’t say anything. He was simply staring. Heaven felt nervous, worried that Desmond might not like how she looked.
Desmond stood up and walked to her.
“You are so beautiful, I almost didn’t recognize you. You look like you have royal blood because of your look tonight,” Desmond said, making Heaven smile.
They left for the event venue together. When they arrived, there was a red carpet laid out. Dozens of media personnel were waiting for the guests.
Desmond stepped out first. The moment the media saw him, cameras immediately flashed.
“Mr. Velasquez, the heir of Velasquez Group, has someone with him!” a reporter shouted. Everyone waited to see who would step out of the van next.
Desmond opened the door. Heaven raised a hand to shield her eyes from the bright lights.
The reporters were stunned when they saw Heaven’s pregnant belly. The Velasquez family had never released anything about Desmond being married. The cameras flashed nonstop, the lights almost blinding Heaven.
Heaven hooked her arm through Desmond’s as they walked together. She felt like she had forgotten how to walk. She couldn’t understand the feeling, it was like she needed to pee and poop at the same time from nervousness. She wasn’t used to situations like this.
“Relax,” Desmond whispered, noticing how tightly she held his arm.
“I feel like going home. Is it always like this during events? Why are there so many media?” Heaven whispered anxiously. Her hands were sweating from nerves.
“Media will always be here at events like this. You’ll have to get used to it, because starting today, I’ll be bringing you to all the parties I attend.” Heaven didn’t reply anymore.
When they entered the function hall, many guests had already arrived. People glanced at them, everyone recognized Desmond, but not the woman beside him. Some, however, knew them from attending their wedding.
“Desmond, mijo. I’m glad you came. Is this your wife?” asked Mr. Maines, one of the board directors and a guest at their wedding.
“Yes, Mr. Maines,” Desmond answered. Mr. Maines smiled when he saw Heaven’s large belly.
“Please have a safe delivery,” he told Heaven kindly.
“Thank you, sir,” Heaven replied shyly. She wasn’t used to talking to people she didn’t know.
“A wife? You already have a wife, Mr. Velasquez? Why didn’t we know? Why wasn’t this released to the media?” an elderly woman asked curiously.
“My wife doesn’t like media attention, Mrs. Valdez, so we decided not to announce it publicly,” Desmond answered. Mrs. Valdez frowned slightly as she studied Heaven, as though trying to recognize her.
“Is she the model girlfriend you had before?” she asked. Desmond’s expression turned serious immediately. He didn’t expect people knew about him and Macie. Their relationship had been private because Macie never wanted the public to know she was in a relationship.
“No, she’s my wife,” Desmond answered coldly, then led Heaven away. Heaven remained quiet.
They went to look for Desmond’s parents. When Shiermy saw them, she immediately approached. She kissed Heaven on the cheek.
“You’re so beautiful tonight, Heaven. I almost didn’t recognize you,” Shiermy said warmly.
“Good evening, Mom. You’re so pretty too,” Heaven replied.
“I’m glad you brought Heaven with you tonight. Are you sure you’re okay with the guests finding out about the both of you?” Shiermy asked her son.
“It’s fine, Mom. What’s the point of hiding it when they’ll all find out sooner or later?” Desmond answered. Shiermy smiled sweetly, she once thought Desmond would never accept Heaven as his wife.
“Thank you,” Shiermy whispered to Heaven. Heaven, however, didn’t understand why she was thanking her.
