Chapter 38 Chapter 13.2
We happily opened the gifts that Desmond and I brought for them. They were already labeled so they wouldn't get mixed up. I gave them their gifts one by one. My siblings were overjoyed while our parents just watched us.
"Mom, this is for you." I gave her a popular skincare product. I bought a lot so she would have a stock.
"Thank you, dear," she said. I gave Dad a watch that Desmond bought for him.
"This is for you, Dad. Desmond bought that," I said. Dad took the watch and put it on. The size was just right for him, so there was no need to shorten or lengthen it.
"Thank you, son," Dad said to Desmond. When I saw the necklace that I also bought for Mom, I gave it to her again.
"I know you want to buy a necklace, but because you always put us first, you deserve to be given a necklace." Mom looked at Desmond as if she was still shy to accept it because they knew that Desmond spent all of this.
"Accept it, Mom. It's also my way of thanking you for entrusting your eldest daughter to me," Desmond said, which made Mom smile. Dad took it to put it on Mom. When Mom put it on, she held its pendant and smiled sweetly at me.
"Thank you for your gifts, but next time, just save them so you can use them when your child is born." I smiled because she was still thinking about the future. They don't know how rich Desmond's family is. I also gave Anica the things I bought for her.
When we were done with what we were doing, Mom ordered Anica to buy what they would cook at the market.
"Heaven, give this to them so they won't have to spend on what we'll eat here," Desmond whispered to me. I looked at the thick wad of money he was holding. I was shy to accept it, so I refused him.
"I give them something every payday, so don't worry," I answered him. He held my hand and then placed the money in my palm.
"Take this. I don't want to have nothing to give when I visit them. I also don't want them to shoulder all of what I'll eat." I laughed at him slightly because it was as if he was shy to my family, especially to my parents. After all, I understand what he's feeling. I just took what he gave so he would be quiet.
"Do you want to rest in the room first? We'll just call you when we're going to eat," Dad said when he came out of the kitchen.
"It's still early, Dad, for us to lock ourselves in the room. We're okay here in the living room," I answered because it's embarrassing for just the two of us to be inside my room. Even though we're already married and it's legal for us to do what married couples do, I'm still shy to my parents.
"Heaven, let's play Uno card," Jerome said to me while holding the Uno card. I nodded at him and then took what he was holding. I also called Randy so there would be four of us playing.
“Am I included?” Desmond asked when I also gave him a card.
"Yes, so you won't be bored while we're here," I answered.
"But I don't know how to play this." I looked at him. Is he serious that he doesn't know how to play Uno?
"I'll just teach you," Randy said to Desmond. Randy took the cards from me to explain to Desmond each number and symbol of the cards. I let the two of them be first, and when Desmond had memorized the meaning of the numbers and symbols, Randy spread the cards to the four of us. I excitedly picked up my cards. Desmond imitated me.
I smiled when I saw the plus cards. Randy went down first, followed by Jerome. I also put down my card, and because it was Desmond's first time, he was slow to find what he would put down.
Our game continued, and I could see that Desmond's card was ready to be put down. I was secretly laughing. I dropped my block card, and Desmond was about to drop his card when he realized what I gave him. He looked at me with a pout, so I laughed slightly.
"Do you want me to lose?" he complained to me like a child.
"You're plus 4," Randy said to Jerome while laughing. Jerome didn't let himself be defeated because he dropped a plus 2. Desmond was laughing at me because I would take six cards, but that's what he thought. I dropped my plus 4 on him, so his smile disappeared.
I was laughing at him because of his expression.
"You're plus 10," I said to him while laughing. His face became serious, and then he looked at me. I just bit my lower lip. He reluctantly picked up ten cards. Jerome and Randy were also laughing at him.
“We’ll make it up, brother.” Randy said. I looked at him because they might target me to lose. I looked at my card, I still have defenses, so it's okay.
Our cards were going around and around. I only had two cards left, so I was close to finishing, but Jerome suddenly gave me a plus 4. I glared at him, but the three of them just laughed at me. I had no choice but to pick up four more cards.
Desmond dropped a reverse on me. He still has a lot of cards, so he might be planning something to make me lose. Jerome finished first, so there were only three of us until Randy also finished because they were always dropping their plus cards on me.
I faced Desmond. He was looking at me with a grin as if he was sure he would win.
"Block you," I said, I could see his jaw tighten, so I was laughing.
"Reverse," I said again. Desmond had already put down his cards because it was as if he felt that he would lose. I was just laughing at the expression on his face.
"Love, will you let me lose? It's my first time," he said to me sweetly. I swallowed and then looked away. Does he think I'll be swayed by his sweet words? I don't know how to let myself lose. Does he think I'll let myself lose when he calls me love? No way!
