Chapter 352 Lydia Asks Matilda for Help

Chapter 352 Lydia Asks Matilda for Help

Lydia looked at Matilda and gave a bitter smile.

Matilda knew right away that things weren't going well for her.

"Do you want to sit down and have some water?" Matilda asked. All she could offered Lydia was the hot water from the office.

Lydia smiled, "No need, but I'd like to talk to you."

The clinic was about to close for the day, so Matilda said, "Let's go to the coffee shop at the entrance then."

"Sure."

Lydia followed Matilda.

The two arrived at the coffee shop and each ordered a drink.

Lydia remained silent for a long while, simply staring blankly at the street outside.
Matilda stayed quiet as well.
Truthfully, she didn't hate Lydia nearly as much as before.

Matilda had never really wanted to return to the Savoy family anyway. She didn't care much about who the Savoy parents recognized as their daughter.

Lydia had wanted to do things to hurt her in order to stay in the Savoy family, but in the end, Matilda hadn't lost anything. She actually felt sorry for Lydia.

A strong person must have few desires inside. When you stop desperately chasing after things, you spare yourself from getting hurt.

But Lydia had clung on too many things and tried too desperately. In the end, everything slipped through her fingers like sand, leaving her with nothing.
After a long while, Lydia finally spoke: "Matilda, I did some bad things before, and I want to say I'm sorry."

Matilda said calmly, "But you already said that once before."

"I went away for a while recently and saw through a lot of things. Actually, if a person wants to be happy, in the end they still have to rely on themselves."

Matilda took a sip of her coffee and said, "You came to find me today because you need something from me, right?"

"You really are a smart woman. No wonder you have such an excellent husband, and Mom and Dad like you, and Penny admires you."

"Then just tell me, what do you need from me?"

Lydia revealed the bruises and wounds on her hands and feet, then said quietly, "My current husband did this."
Matilda said, "Domestic violencehappens either zero or countless times. You should seriously consider getting a divorce.."

"I want to, but I might not be able to."

"He won't agree?"

"He won't. It would be great if he would agree."

Matilda said, "Most domestic abusers are cowards who only target the weak. They act tough only behind closed doors. If someone more powerful came to deal with him, he would agree to divorce."

Lydia smiled bitterly, "But now everyone has turned against me. No one is willing to help me anymore."

"You think I can help you?"

"You can."

"Why don't you ask Edison?"

Lydia smiled bitterly: "He's my ex-husband. If I involve him, Ronald will become even more furious. Even if he agrees to the divorce under pressure, he'll definitely take revenge on me afterward."

"Then you could ask... Mr. Savoy."

"That could work, but I'm afraid you'll misunderstand."

"Misunderstand what?"

"Misunderstand that I still want to return to the Savoy family. I've thought it through - if I can get this divorce, I'll go far away and find a place where no one knows me to start a new life."

"Then go ask him. I won't have any objections."

"He hasn't paid any attention to me for a long time. I hope you can talk to him and ask him to help me with the divorce."

"..."

That night, Matilda told Wentworth about this.

Wentworth smiled, "Looks like she really wants to leave Cloud Town and start a new life."

Matilda said indignantly, "Does she mean she wants to give my parents back to me? But do I need that?"

Wentworth went over and put his arm around her: "She means two things. First, she won't compete with you for your parents anymore. Second, your parents aren't paying attention to her anymore. If she asks them, they might not help, but if you help her ask, Mom and Dad will help her."

Matilda looked at him: "Why are you calling them Mom and Dad? I don't even call them that."

"After all, there's a blood relationship. You have to admit that," Wentworth said seriously. "And they really do treat you well."

"Don't you think it's unfair? When I needed them most, they weren't there for me. Now they're getting old, and in the future, I'll be the one staying by their side to take care of them."

Wentworth smiled: "If you think that way, then tell Lydia not to leave. Tell her that when Mom and Dad get old in the future, she has to come back and take care of them - all the dirty work, she has to do it."

Matilda laughed at his words: "Are you silly? They have generous pensions and can take care of themselves just fine. Their children only need to check in on them from time to time."
"Well, there you go then."

Matilda fell silent.

Turns out she had walked right into Wentworth's trap.

...

Matilda told Jasmine in advance that she would come over for dinner on weekend evening.

Jasmine was naturally excited and told her to come quickly. She also said they had received a batch of cured meat at home that would be delicious when cooked.

Jasmine also said she would ask Kevin to get off work early too, and it would be best if Matilda could bring Wentworth along.

But Matilda said Wentworth had something to do and couldn't come.

She had made plans with Lydia to bring her over for dinner.

So that weekend, when Jasmine saw Matilda and Lydia arrive together, she was confused.

One biological daughter, one daughter she had raised for over twenty years - she hadn't seen either of them for a while.

They were born on the same day, but Matilda looked more and more radiant, while Lydia looked haggard, as if she had aged several years.

What was even more puzzling was that they had shown up together.

"How did you two come together?" Jasmine asked.

She was a bit unhappy inside that Matilda hadn't mentioned this in advance.

But even if Matilda had mentioned it, Jasmine wouldn't have wanted Lydia to come back.

Lydia knew her place though. She opened her mouth and called out: "Mrs. Savoy."

Jasmine's heart ached.

Matilda didn't use any form of address. She just smiled at Jasmine.

She still couldn't bring herself to say "Mom."

"Since you're both here, come in. The food is already being cooked inside. We can eat soon."

Matilda and Jasmine both smiled, then sat down on the sofa.

Before long, Kevin came home too.

Seeing both daughters there, Kevin was also stunned for a moment.

After greetings, he went into the kitchen and asked Jasmine: "How did the two of them come back together?"

"How would I know?" Jasmine said. "I was shocked when I saw them come in just now."

"Weren't they enemies before?"

"Mainly it was Lydia who treated Matilda as an enemy. Matilda never bothered with her."

"Did they say anything?"

"Not yet. I think they're probably here to see you."

Dinner was ready.

Matilda and Lydia both helped set out the plates and get the utensils.

After sitting down, Matilda asked, "Isn't Penny coming home for dinner?"

"She's working the night shift lately and won't be back until 11. We don't need to wait for her. Let's eat first."

"Okay." Matilda picked up her bowl and started eating.
