Chapter 344 Ask Her to Come Eat Dinner
Chapter 344 Ask Her to Come Eat Dinner
Wentworth went to work today. When he got to the hallway, he saw Victoria.
"Mr. Gonzaga, good morning." Victoria greeted him first.
Wentworth nodded slightly.
Victoria wanted to say something to Wentworth, but as soon as she saw the security camera at the end of the hallway, she shut her mouth.
She was really annoyed with the current office setup. Why did they have to install cameras in every corner? It made it impossible for her to pull anything off.
While she was hesitating, Wentworth had already returned to his office.
Victoria went back to her desk.
Her phone rang. It was a message from Colin.
[The timing is right. When can you add the ingredients to the soup?]
Victoria was so angry she wanted to throw her phone.
This was code between her and Colin. He was pressuring her to make a move on Wentworth soon.
If she didn't comply, her job was at Colin's mercy. Although she worked in finance, if there were any problems with her work, he could fire her or demote her directly.
After thinking it over, she decided to go after Wentworth as soon as possible.
Finally, an opportunity came.
That day, she saw Wentworth pass by her office.
She had been observing Wentworth for a while, and knew what he was going to do.
She couldn't help, but follow him.
Wentworth went to the restroom at the end of the hallway.
After he went in, Victoria also pretended to go to the women's restroom.
Both restrooms shared the same entrance, but once inside, they split left and right.
Most importantly, there were no cameras here.
The women's restroom had several stalls. Instead of going to a stall, she went to the sink to wash her hands.
Soon, someone who had been using the restroom came out—a female colleague from the audit department.
The woman had used the toilet, and glanced at Victoria. Since they weren't familiar with each other, they just nodded at each other.
Victoria's heart was pounding.
She prayed in her mind that no one else would come in.
Then she listened carefully for sounds from the men's restroom next door.
It seemed like someone was coming out. She immediately walked out.
Sure enough, the person coming out was Wentworth.
Victoria immediately called out, "Wentworth!"
Wentworth glanced at her.
Just one glance, and he seemed to sense that Victoria was up to no good, and had impure intentions.
He quickly retreated back into the men's restroom and called out, "Rick, are you done yet?"
A male voice came from inside. "Yeah, I'm done!"
"Then let's come out together."
"Okay." Rick quickly shook, then zipped up.
"Mr. Gonzaga, you're calling me so urgently—is there something you need to tell me?" In the office, people commonly used formal titles for those with higher positions. Wentworth didn't like it, but he had no way to correct it, so he just let them call him that.
"Not really, i was just worried about running into some poisonous butterflies."
"Poisonous butterflies?"
There was no one outside anymore. Victoria had already left.
Wentworth said, "Never mind, Rick. From now on, when I go to the restroom, I'll call you."
Rick was silent.
Rick asked, "You mean, Mr. Gonzaga, you mean you want to go to the restroom with me from now on? Does that mean when I need to go, I should call you too?"
Rick was nervous. He was 40 years old—Wentworth wasn't interested in him, was he?
Wentworth said calmly, "You don't need to call me, but I'll call you. Don't be nervous, there's no other meaning. I have this problem—I get scared going to the restroom alone. Probably something from my childhood."
"Oh, I see!" Rick understood. He immediately said, "Then don't worry, Mr. Gonzaga. Whenever you need to use the restroom, just call me."
"Great!"
The next time Victoria went to the restroom, she discovered that a camera had been installed at the restroom entrance.
She was stunned, then cursed in her mind, "This Wentworth is such a sly fox!"
She was out of options. Someone who came from the military could see through your intentions with just one look. Even if she had accused him of sexual harassment back then, he probably would have had plenty of ways to get out of it.
...
Penny had been staying at her parents' house for the past few days.
Originally, Bernard's parents said they would stay for a few days and then leave, but they kept delaying their departure—maybe to intimidate Penny.
Whenever Penny was home, they would find fault with everything. Bernard had talked to them several times, but they wouldn't stop.
A few days ago, they called Penny to come home for dinner, saying there would be homemade special pie.
Penny thought they had already made it, but when she got there, she found they had only bought the ingredients—the filling wasn't even prepared yet.
Penny was confused.
Mrs. Lewis said with a smile, "Penny, you know how to make pie, right? If you don't, you'd better learn. Back in our hometown, we make pie for Christmas and holidays. If a daughter-in-law can't make it, people will laugh at her."
Penny had barely cooked in her entire life, let alone made pie.
She felt like Mrs. Lewis was doing this on purpose.
So she called Bernard, and explained the situation.
After hearing it, Bernard also called Mrs. Lewis. "Mom, why did you call Penny home for dinner, and then make her cook?"
Mrs. Lewis felt guilty. It wasn't that she wanted to do this—she was a woman herself and knew how hard it was for women to work and do housework. She said, "This was your dad's idea."
"Then put Dad on the phone."
Mr. Lewis took the phone, his tone not polite at all: "We've been here for so many days, and besides boiling water, when has she ever done any work? She hasn't even cooked us a single meal. Is this what a future daughter-in-law should do?"
"Dad, I told you, she doesn't know how to cook. If you really want pie that badly, I'll make it for you after work!"
Mr. Lewis wouldn't listen. "I want her to make it today!" he demanded.
Penny had already heard everything clearly from inside the room.
Bernard called back to comfort her, "Penny, how about this—you go to the kitchen and pretend to work, and I'll come home right now to help you."
Penny asked, "Don't you have surgery today? Where will you find the time to come home and cook?"
"I'll take leave."
"Don't!" Penny understood how hard Bernard worked. He wasn't a senior doctor yet, and his career was at a crucial stage. If he kept taking time off for family reasons, his supervisor would definitely have a problem with it.
Penny said, "I'll do it. It probably isn't that difficult."
She watched a short video, and figured out the basic steps, then got started.
Chop the meat, scramble the eggs for a bit, then stir-fry everything together with onions.
It was slightly burnt.
Take it off the heat, then stuff it into the dough.
Mrs. Lewis saw this, and decided to assist her.
Penny had never made pie before. Even with ready-made dough, she found it too difficult.
After making a few, it was a disaster.
Either they wouldn't seal properly, or the filling would leak out, or the dough would tear.
Penny was already doing this reluctantly, so she was even worse at wrapping them.
Especially seeing Mr. Lewis sitting on the sofa not caring about anything, she got even more angry.
When she was busy, she couldn't stand seeing others idle.
"Mrs. Lewis, I really can't do this. You'd better do it yourself," Penny said.
She checked the time and added, "I have something to do. I won't be eating with you today. I need to go out."
"Wait, Penny, you..."
