Chapter 210 Let Him Suffer a Little
Zoey never expected Charles to be this patient.
He hadn’t returned to Phoenix City. Every day, he followed Zoey and a group of women to the market.
It was autumn now, with briskmornings and evenings. Charles would prepare a light jacket for Zoey and draping it over her when she felt cold.
Zoey couldn't just tossthe jacket aside, so she had to wearing it anyway.
Gradually, the women started pitying him.
At first, they all wanted to protect Zoey and stand up for her. But after watching day after day, they felt that Charles was actually quite a decent man - handsome and patient.
The women started on his behalfCharles.
"Zoey, I think your husband is quite thoughtful. Look, he comes with us to the market every day. Many husbands would do that."
"He even prepares a jacket for you. You give him the the cold shoulder every day, but he never loses his temper. He's just waitswaiting for you. Is there some misunderstanding between you two? Why don't you two have a heart-to-heart?"
Zoey wanted to say no, there was nothing to talk about.
However, Mary nudgedZoey toward Charles. "Zoey, you two have a good talk. We'll go grab the vegetables the items."
Zoey was pushed into Charles's arms. She looked up at him.
After all these days, this was the first time she really looked at him.
Her heart tightened.
Even though she was angry, she had to admit that she still loved him.
She quicklyaverted her gaze to keep from relenting.
The women had already walked away. She couldn't very well catch up, so she said to Charles irritably, "You follow me around every day. Look, you've drivenmy friends off."
Charles smiled, then took her hand.
She recoiled. He took it again. She pulled away again. He took it again.
An older woman selling vegetables nearby finally snapped anymore. "Girl, stop being so hard on your husband. I've seen him following you for days. He really cares about you. I wish my husband was half this good."
Now Zoey felt embarrassed. She said to Charles, "Fine, let's talk somewhere else."
Walking out of the market, they went to a nearby park.
Zoey sat down on a stone bench, and Charles sat down beside her.
Zoey didn't speak. Charles smiled and asked her, "Still angry? You weren't always such an grumpy thing."
Zoey snorted, "Either I'm not angry, or I stay angry for a year."
Charles laughed again.
How come he never noticed before that his little wife had such spirit?
He stopped talking to avoid making her more upset.
Noticing his silence, Zoey said, "Didn't you have something to say to me? But I'm telling you now, I'm not going back with you. I don't want to go back and watch you flirt with yourex. I won't tolerate that!"
Charles said, "I won't see Janice again."
"That's what you said last time too." Zoey snapped, looking really fierce yet adorable.
Charles said, "Then I swear, if I see her again, I'll..."
Zoey interrupted him, "It's getting late. I need to go back and sleep."
Charles had no choice but to follow her back.
...
In the Before they knew it, Wentworth came back.
Sally and Nick were also on break. With six people living in one house, it was full of life.
Early in the morning, Wentworth and Matilda went to shop for food, then the whole family helped cook.
Charles didn't know how to cook. He couldn't even even rinse the greens. He was tasked with shell peanuts.
Zoey was pregnant, and Matilda didn't want her to overexert herself, so she also assigned her to shell peanuts.
The siblings could help wash vegetables, but the kitchen couldn't accommodate everyone, so Matilda assigned them to wipe tables and empty the bins.
In the kitchen, Wentworth asked Matilda, "Has Charlesbeen a nuisance these past few days?"
Matilda said, "What trouble could he cause? Just an just another guest. Besides, he follows Zoey to the market every day, so I don't even have to go shopping."
"Haven't they reconciled yet?"
"No. Zoey's really bitter. She just won't forgive Charles."
"Aren't you going to help talk to them?"
"I'm not going to. I also hate people who can'tmove on from their ex-girlfriends." Matilda said, "Let him suffer a bit. Otherwise he won't realize his mistake."
Wentworth said, "Then we won't talk to them. It's his own business. We just need to be welcoming."
...
Sometime later, Amelia made a video call. Amelia was now with Juliana and Nason, the three of them eating at a restaurant.
Amelia said, "A Goddaughteris still the best. Not like my son and daughter-in-law, all in other cities."
Charles said directly, "Didn't I ask you to visit the day before yesterday? You didn't come yourself, so who can you blame?"
Amelia had to keep quiet. "I don't know anyone there. I didn't want to go."
"So you want all of us to come back? Coming back isn't impossible, but the problem is when we get home you give us cold glares. Who can stomach that?"
Amelia wanted to say she only behaved like that toward Matilda, not others.
She quickly requested a chat with Zoey. "Zoey, I really miss you. Yesterday I went to see your parents. They also hope you can come back soon."
Zoey said with a smile, "Sure, I'll go see my parents when I've had my fill of fun."
She didn't say she would certainlygo back to Charles's house.
"Zoey, Charles did wrong and hurt you. Bring him back and I'll set him straight."
Zoey smiled again. "But I don't think anyone can tame him."
Amelia was at a loss for words.
Right, these two sons - which one could she control? Which one could she discipline?
Amelia ended the call the video, then said to Juliana across from her, "Good thing I have you guys with me. Sigh, those two sons and daughters-in-law of mine treat me like I'm invisible."
Juliana had just seen Wentworth in the video, and her heart skipped a beat hard.
She'd been hanging out with Nason every day recently, investing together and attending business events together. She thought she could let go, but she didn't expect that seeing Wentworth again would still make her heart restless.
But so what? Wentworth was Matilda's. Even if she didn't want to let go, she had to.
Juliana said, "Mom, you're actually very blessed. You raised two such fine young men. Sooner or later they'll come back to you. I think what you should do is respect and bless them."
Amelia sighed again.
Nason on the side had been watching Juliana. He noticed that moment when Juliana lost focus seeing Wentworth.
He appeared lost in thought.
