Chapter 191 Is She a Flight Attendant?
Something seemed to click for Brianna. "No way. There are so many soldiers—its impossible they'd run into each other, right?"
"But what if?"
"Did Matty say where she's going with him?"
"Cloud Town."
Brianna breathed a sigh of relief. "Cloud Town's so remote—definitely won't happen. I remember that couple back then had northern accents. Cloud Town's in the southwest."
Hearing this, Connor relaxed a bit too.
They wouldn't run into each other. Definitely not.
...
The plane landed.
A military vehicle came to pick them up, driven by Danny.
The moment Danny saw Wentworth, he rushed over for a hug, crying his eyes out. "Captain! I finally get to see you! You don't know—you don't know how terrifying it all was. Anyone else would've died!"
Wentworth firmly pushed Danny away. "Stop crying. Look at yourself—what kind of example is this!"
Danny still couldn't hold back tears. Sniffling, he looked at Matilda. "Dr. Spencer... no, Matilda. Seeing you again—taking care of the captain all this time must've been exhausting."
"Just doing what I should," Matilda said.
"Our border's on high alert now. Konbu and his people will have a hard time getting in. The moment they show up, we'll arrest them!" Danny said.
Wentworth nodded, and they got into the car.
An hour and a half later, they reached the military housing complex in Cloud Town.
The main entrance looked like any regular residential community, except all the signage inside was prominent, and security was strict. Outsiders couldn't enter—deliveries and takeout had to be left in designated lockers.
Military personnel stood guard. Danny rolled down his window to greet one, who saluted and let them through.
The complex was massive inside. Building after building of housing, somewhat dated—looked like they were built after 2000—but every unit was occupied.
There were training grounds, basketball courts, a gym, a dedicated bar, shops, and a reading room. Everything was spotlessly clean. A top-notch environment.
Matilda asked Danny curiously, "How come there aren't many people outside? Are they all at home?"
Danny smiled. "Some families come out to walk their kids in the evening."
"If Wentworth gets transferred, do I have to move too?"
"Of course."
"Do all the military spouses work?"
"Regular jobs can be arranged. Depends on what you want to do," Danny replied. "The military hospital's an option—if the captain applies for you, you'll definitely get in."
"It depends whether the hospital needs people," Wentworth said.
Work wasn't urgent. After taking care of Wentworth for so long, Matilda wanted to rest for a while.
They arrived at a row of houses. The earlier buildings were seven-story walk-ups, four units per floor. But this row looked like townhouses—three stories each, side by side. Clearly upscale.
"Matilda, this is your and the captain's place."
Matilda was amazed. "I get to live somewhere this nice?"
"Assigned by rank. The captain ranks high," Danny said with a smile.
They got out of the car. Soon, several soldiers came out to help with their luggage.
Doors from neighboring houses opened too. Military spouses peeked out.
"Oh, is this Wentworth's wife?"
Major was a rank, battalion commander a position.
"She's so pretty!"
Before long, a crowd gathered—mostly women, since the men were training.
Matilda quickly distributed local specialties she'd brought from Phoenix City—snacks and treats.
"Please try some. I'm new here—hope we can all get along." Matilda's voice was soft and charming.
Even dressed conservatively, she seemed slightly out of place with the local vibe.
But everyone politely accepted her gifts.
Wentworth maintained his stern, aloof expression. "Let's go inside. They'll handle the luggage."
"Okay."
Since they were staying long-term, Matilda had brought quite a lot—too lazy to buy everything new.
After the couple went inside, a woman in her forties from next door asked Danny, "What does she do? Is she a flight attendant?"
"Flight attendant?" Danny paused, then laughed. "When I first met her, I thought she was a celebrity. But she's actually a doctor."
"A doctor?" The others couldn't imagine it—this delicate-looking woman with such a pleasant voice was a doctor?
"What department?"
Danny bragged without hesitation. "She's a jack-of-all-trades. Used to provide medical support at the border. She can do everything, treat any condition."
Everyone thought he was lying. They believed no such thing as an all-around doctor existed.
Recently there'd been a TV story about a doctor who did C-sections and dentistry, even stole anesthetics—the doctor got roasted online.
Danny grinned broadly. "You'll figure out what kind of person she is eventually."
After Danny left, the military families slowly dispersed.
...
Matilda organized their new place.
Several groups had probably lived here before—the furniture was a bit worn, walls had some kids' crayon marks.
But Matilda didn't mind. It only needed a good cleaning.
Now, with just the two of them in the house, Wentworth swept Matilda onto the bed, about to kiss her.
She was still getting familiar with everything.
"Hey, what are you trying to do now?"
Wentworth held her tight. "Having my wife here with me—feels so good."
She couldn't help smiling. "Then wherever you go, I'll follow. Happy now?"
He kissed her again. "Matty, being with me—you're making sacrifices."
"Then... should I leave?" She grinned.
He held her even tighter. "Don't even think about it!"
More sweet nothings followed.
Before they knew it, evening arrived.
Danny came back with two insulated food containers. Bringing them dinner.
He set down the containers and left immediately, not wanting to intrude.
He knew the captain would be busy soon—couldn't enjoy couple time for long.
Thinking about this, Danny sighed.
"Wentworth, does your mess hall always have food this good?"
Matilda opened both containers—lots of meat, plus vegetables and chicken soup.
This meal would fill their bellies.
Wentworth smiled. "If you like it, I'll have someone bring you dinner every day."
"Please don't. When we arrived, the neighbors looked at me suspiciously—like I'm not a proper woman. If you send me meals every day, they'll look down on me even more."
"What do they know? Don't worry about their opinions. Plus, lots of military wives here have their husbands bring them food. Saves money."
Wentworth used to really envy that.
"Then bring it when you have time, and don't worry about it when you're busy," Matilda said.
They shared a happy dinner together.
Afterward, Matilda wanted to take a walk to digest. Wentworth immediately went with her.
