I vaguely heard her ask Andy to lock our bedroom door from the outside.
Why did she have to lock our door? The door had been unlocked all morning, and we would not escape anyway since there was no way off the island.
I lay down and let out a long breath. Jessie looked at me and asked, “What’s wrong? What are you thinking about?”
“Sorry, I still don’t know how to get us off this island. You must miss Mom a lot,” I said.

A few hours later, when Jessie was asleep, and I was almost asleep, I heard a noise coming from the first floor. I also heard footsteps leaving our room. What was going on?
Then, the noises disappeared and returned to the front porch. Out of curiosity, I got out of bed and peeked through the curtains. Luckily, the sky was still bright and the situation on the front porch was visible.
“Jessie, wake up. Come here,” I called.
However, Jessie was still too sleepy to even open her eyes. She pulled back the covers and fell back asleep. I thought it best to just let her sleep while I figured out what was going on.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t hear their conversation. Either their voices were too small or this room was soundproof.

However, my eyes were immediately drawn to the pile of bags near a pillar. Not long after, the man they called ‘Boss’ came out while holding hands with Aunty Megan. Then, Andy, Kelly, and Tia walked behind the two of them carrying bags and pouches.
They all left. Did they leave the island? And left us here. Wait, Rose didn’t with them. That means they left Rose with us. That was a wonderful opportunity.

A few hours later, the originally bright blue sky changed color as the sun sank and gave its place to the moon and stars. An hour ago, we had showered and were ready to welcome Rose.
My guess was right. Footsteps came from behind the door and someone unlocked the room. It wasn’t long before the door opened and Rose stood at our expectation.
“Umm kids, let’s go downstairs and have dinner. I see you’ve had your baths. Let’s go down now before the food gets cold,” Rose invited.
Jessie got out of bed and approached Rose. “Rose, have they all left? Is it just the three of us here now?”

Jessie turned to me with a smile. I understood the meaning of her smile.
“We have a request and some questions for you,” Jessie replied.
“Oh, please ask. Maybe we should talk at the dinner table. It’s freezing at night on the island, so the food gets cold quickly. We should go downstairs and eat. Come on,” she invited us both.
