Megan’s POV
I wanted to know about that guy who was talking to my mom. And seemed like that guy knows a lot about me. I didn’t want to delay any longer.
I pushed the doorknob down and pushed the door inward. And surprise! It turned out that the guy standing in front of my mom was Freddy. They were hugging. Incredible.
“Mom, what are you doing? What the hell?” I asked in a high-pitched voice. I must admit I was angry and couldn’t hold my temper anymore. I threw my handbag on the sofa and stood up with my arms folded across my chest as I stared at the two of them.
Freddy and Mom’s eyes widened, and they misbehaved. Freddy hurriedly let go of his hug to Mom and Mom walked away and sat in her chair.
Mom immediately pretended to open one document on the table. Without looking at me, she asked. “What brings you here? It’s late at night. Did you come here to pick me up?”
I laughed widely and found their behavior and words funny. I turned around and sat on the sofa while staring intently at the two of them.
While playing with my hair, I said, “You don’t have to pretend anymore. Do you think I’m blind and didn’t see what you were doing earlier? Now explain to me what this is all about and is John Smith not my real father?”
Freddy still stood silently beside Mom’s desk, unmoving. He fixed his eyes on me. While Mom looked at Freddy.
Not getting a response for a long time, Mom touched Freddy’s hand and nodded her head twice.
“Ah, a sign. How long are you going to shut up and waste my time?” I asked impatiently.
“Damn it! Is that how you talk to your parents? Erin, you’re raising her wrong. At her age, she’s already dared to do many wrong things. And you support her? What kind of mom are you?”
No! No! I must have heard wrong. Freddy just said that they are my parents. So, what Zac said was true.
Why was I so unfortunate? If Grandma and dad found out, they would have immediately crossed my name off the inheritance list.
Tsk, what a fact that I didn’t expect. If that’s the case, there’s no other way for me to bury this and not let anyone else know.
Mom immediately stood up and grasped Freddy’s arm tightly. There was a look of fear and panic in Mom’s eyes.
“H-hun, it’s not like that. You misunderstood,” Mom said, trying to calm Freddy down.
Hun? I was disappointed in Mom, but I couldn’t blame her because now I was in the same position as her. Shit! Could all this be karma for me? Hahaha, no way. I don’t believe in karma, and there is no karma in this world.
“Erin, do you remember your promise?” Freddy asked while looking sharply at Mom.
Mom’s glorious eyes glazed over. She nodded a few times. And soon, tears flowed from her eyes.
“What are you crying for? You’ve raised a woman who can hurt other people’s lives and kill. I’m disappointed in you,” Freddy said.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong for spoiling her to become like this. Please tell me what to do?” Mom asked, while hugging Freddy from the side.
I couldn’t stand the drama of their romance anymore. I stood up and picked up my bag from the sofa, ready to leave. Suddenly, Freddy yelled, “Stay where you are. Don’t you want an answer?”
I stood still and realized that I still didn’t get any answer. Then, I turned around and looked into Freddy’s eyes and I just realized that his eyes were like mine.
I sat back on the sofa while folding my arms across my chest. I saw Freddy take Mom’s hand and invite her to sit on the sofa. They both sat right in front of me. Before explaining, they looked at each other.
“Megan, there are many things you need to know,” Mom said.
“Yes, I’m ready to listen,” I replied.
Freddy asked Mom to explain everything. Then Mom let out a long breath before speaking. “Megan, your real father is Freddy, not John. All this happened because of circumstances. Before my mother forced me into marriage, I had been in a relationship with Freddy. And two weeks before I married John, I found out that I was pregnant, but I was in a difficult position. If I had told Freddy about this pregnancy, he would have married me immediately. However, the problem was my mom. She asked me not to tell Freddy about my pregnancy news and get married to John.”
Mom was silent for a moment, then exhaled again before continuing her explanation.
“So?” I asked impatiently.
“I did what my mother asked, which was to marry John and not tell Freddy anything about my pregnancy, even though I was heartbroken and suffering. Until one day, fate brought us together and that time I accidentally told him everything,” Mom replied while wiping her tears.
“Did Mom tell him about everything we did?” I asked curiously.
Mom nodded.
I exhaled quickly while trying to digest everything. I thought extra hard to hide all these sad facts.
“Did Helen know about this?” I asked.
Mom shook her head.
“I don’t think we should discuss this anymore. It’s enough that the three of us know and I hope you don’t continue this illicit relationship any longer. To me, John is still my father and Helen is my grandmother. And I ask that no one else find out about this. I don’t want my name crossed out of the inheritance list. Do you agree?” I asked.
Freddy stroked Mom’s arm, trying to calm her down. I saw the look on Freddy’s face that seemed to disagree with my proposal.
“You’re too much, Piper. When will you are going to recognize Freddy as your biological father?” Mom asked, sobbing.
“Mom, blame yourself. All of this happened because of your actions and had nothing to do with me. So, I may choose John and Helen. It’s not that I don’t like Freddy, it’s just that the person I’ve been with is John. Everyone’s reaction is unique. If there’s nothing else to discuss, I’m going home now,” I replied.
I knew my answer would not please them. But there was nothing we could do. It was the only way.
“Never blame your mom. You’re only thinking about treasure and not about our feelings. Leave us alone,” Freddy pleaded in a lofty tone.
I hurriedly grabbed my bag and stood up. However, just as my hand was about to reach for the doorknob. The door opened, and I saw Helen standing in the doorway accompanied by two of her assistants.
“G-grandma,” I stammered.
“Are you surprised? Why the rush? Come in and I have something to tell the three of you,” Helen Smith replied.
“M-mom?” Erin, my mom asked with wide eyes.
“Mrs. Smith?” Freddy asked with a frightened look on his face.
