Maisie's POV

"Excessive touching is prohibited," I said firmly. "His wife is right here."

My voice echoed in the room, creating a momentary silence. Everyone's gaze shifted between me and Bela.

Bela's expression changed from friendly to shocked. Alexander looked confused, caught between wanting to maintain the atmosphere and understanding what was happening.

A mix of emotions washed over me; I wanted to protect our relationship, but on the other hand, I knew this action might increase the tension. However, I could not allow this situation to continue unchecked.

Bela paused for a moment, visibly surprised by my reaction. Her expression shifted from a friendly smile to deep uncertainty. All eyes were on me, and I could feel the tension in the air.

"Eh, sorry, I just wanted to say hello," Bela replied, a bit hesitantly. Her voice trembled, reflecting the confrontation that had just occurred. But as her eyes met mine, I couldn't quell the protective instinct rising within me.

Alexander, who was usually quiet, looked momentarily confused before he turned his gaze to me. Perhaps he was also processing this situation. I understood his feelings—caught between wanting to maintain a good relationship with Bela and keeping clear boundaries in our marriage.

"Yes, thank you Bela, but we should respect each other's privacy," Alexander said calmly, trying to ease the tension. "We can talk outside, without anyone feeling uncomfortable."

Bela nodded, though her face still showed hesitation. I could see she was trying not to push back. We all knew this situation could cause friction, especially given the complicated relationships among us.

"Alright," Bela finally said, her voice softening. "I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. I just wanted to be friendly."

I sighed, feeling it. It was important to consider each other's feelings, but even more crucial to maintain the boundaries we had set. "In friendship, boundaries are important," I said while looking at Alexander, then back at Bela. "Let's all be open and respectful."

Of course, moments like this reminded me how fragile relationships could be at times, but I believed the step I took was the right decision.

"If you're done here, maybe you could leave the room because we need some rest," I said sarcastically.

My discomfort with Bela's presence grew.

Bela's face showed signs of confusion, but there was also a hint of challenge. Meanwhile, Alexander seemed caught between two sides, unsure of what to say.

I felt the tension in the air, as if every passing second reinforced the wall blocking us. The decision to protect our personal space had to be made, even though I knew it could trigger greater conflict.

"Yes, I came here just to visit Mr. Alexander. Since he looks healthy, I will take my leave," Bela replied.

Her tone sounded calm, but I could sense the tension between her words.

Bela turned to leave, but before she did, she threw one last meaningful glance. Her gaze hinted that this was not over, and I felt an internal warning.

After Bela left, the atmosphere in the room felt a little lighter, though a sense of vigilance still lingered in my mind. Now, attention shifted back to Alexander, who looked tired yet relieved.

"Maisie, are you jealous?" Alexander asked.

I squinted, feeling that question disrupted the peace that had just returned.

Jealousy might indeed be present, but I felt more threatened by the interaction between Bela and Alexander. I didn't want to appear weak or defensive, so I tried to remain calm, even though my heart was in turmoil.

"Then why did you act like that when Bela came in?" Alexander asked.

His question made me pause for a moment. I knew my recent actions might seem excessive, but I felt the need to protect what we had.

"I just felt uncomfortable with that situation," I replied, trying to explain without making him think I was overly jealous. "You know how Bela could easily create misunderstandings."

Alexander nodded, but his expression indicated he still didn't fully understand.

"Maisie, you don't need to worry. I'm here for you. My heart is only for you," he said softly, trying to ease the tension.

Hearing his words, warmth began to envelop my heart, but the shadow of Bela's interaction still loomed in my mind.

"Sometimes, I'm just afraid of losing you," I responded, my voice sounding more vulnerable than I wanted.

Alexander moved closer, took my hand, and held it tightly. "You won't lose me. We've been through so much together. Bela is just the past."

I wanted to believe him, but the vigilance remained. “I just want us to stay strong, Alexander.”

“So do I,” he replied, looking into my eyes with certainty. That moment made me feel a bit more at ease, even though doubt still lingered in the corners of my heart.

His grip on my hand tightened, a silent promise that he was committed to us. I took a deep breath, trying to push aside the insecurities that had been creeping in.

“Let’s focus on what we have,” I said softly. “We can’t let the past dictate our future.”

“Exactly,” he agreed, a small smile breaking through his earlier seriousness. “We have each other, and that’s what matters most.”

As we sat together, I felt a flicker of hope. Maybe, just maybe, we could navigate through this uncertainty together.

The warmth of his presence began to chase away the lingering shadows of doubt. I leaned closer, allowing myself to embrace the moment, feeling the bond between us strengthen.

“Let’s make a promise,” I said, searching his eyes for understanding. “To always communicate, no matter what.”

“Deal,” he replied, his expression sincere. “We won’t let anything come between us.”

With that, I felt a renewed sense of determination. Together, we could face whatever challenges lay ahead, and in that thought, I found comfort.

As we sat in a companionable silence, the weight of our earlier conversation began to lift. I caught myself smiling, imagining a future where trust overshadowed doubt.

“Let’s make some plans,” I suggested, eager to redirect the energy between us. “Maybe a weekend getaway?”

“I love that idea!” he exclaimed, his eyes lighting up. “Somewhere we can just relax and enjoy each other’s company.”

The prospect of a new adventure filled me with excitement. It felt like a fresh start—a chance to solidify what we had and explore the depths of our connection.

“Let’s do it,” I said, feeling the thrill of possibility. “Just us, no distractions.”

“Perfect,” he agreed, and for the first time in a while, I felt truly hopeful about our journey ahead.
