Chapter 56 056
Chapter 56 056
Rue’s attention was diverted as she explained the whole situation, looking somewhat aggrieved.
Stefan, accompanied by Luke and her, entered the garden and suggested they all play hide and seek together.
Luke and Rue split up to hide. Rue concealed herself within the bushes, while Luke chose the attic for her hiding spot.
After hiding for a while, Rue, feeling bored, quietly emerged from the bushes with the intention of reuniting with Luke. To her surprise, as soon as she came out, she saw two figures by the attic window. It was Stefan and Luke.
Unaware of their conversation, Stefan suddenly reached out and pushed Luke down.
Rue was terrified and let out a sharp scream, but Stefan had disappeared without a trace.
"I really didn't lie. He's a bad guy. He pushed Luke down..." Rue’a voice quivered with grievance as she spoke, and she seemed on the verge of tears.
Mona hurriedly placed a kiss on her daughter's forehead. "Rue, I believe you haven't lied. The surveillance footage will definitely prove your words true."
Rue asked softly, "Really?"
Nodding earnestly, Mona said, "Yes."
Watching the interaction between Mona and Rue, Leo’s mind suddenly stirred. Having a daughter seemed pretty good. Imagining her calling him "Dad" softly and gently, a faint smile tugged at Leo’s lips.
At this moment, the doctor arrived. With a respectful expression, he said to Leo, "Miss
Granger, the young patient's condition is no longer critical. It's just a minor case of excessive blood loss, requiring a blood transfusion."
Upon hearing the term "blood transfusion,"
Mona’s face suddenly turned pale, as if something had struck her.
"Doctor," she raised her gaze to look at the doctor, "I understand that giving my child a blood transfusion might be troublesome, but I still ask that you spare no effort to make it happen."
Her expression was serious, causing the doctor to falter momentarily. Her interruption disrupted the words he had intended to say.
Right after, Mona looked at Leo with a calm expression. "It seems I left my phone in your car. Could you do me a favor and fetch it?"
For the first time in a long while, Mona spoke gently to Leo. Leo agreed and glanced at Rue, who was held in Mona’s arms.
After he left, Mona turned to the doctor and spoke, "If I remember correctly, doctor, you've been working at this hospital for nearly ten years.”
The doctor’s expression changed immediately.
There had indeed been some minor conflicts within the hospital's management recently, and he seemed to be growing ambitious through some unknown connections.
The doctor didn't want to sit idly, which was why he personally came out to meet Leo. However, he hadn't expected that Mona would see through his intentions so clearly.
"I can assure you that you can securely stay in the position of being a doctor. I just don't want any medical information about my child to be leaked. Do you understand?" Her cold gaze swept over, causing the doctor to shiver involuntarily.
He forced a smile, his words carrying a hint of probing, "This hospital is, after all, under the Cox family's ownership. Miss Granger, you see..."
Mona smiled faintly, "Choosing to cooperate with me doesn't necessarily guarantee success. But not cooperating will certainly lead to failure."
This was already a blatant threat. The doctor's face changed, and he was about to retort when he heard her continue calmly and unhurriedly, "After all, I am also one of the hospital's shareholders."
This statement left the doctor with no room for doubt. He gritted his teeth and decided to take a gamble. He nodded solemnly and replied, "Hospitals are supposed to protect patient privacy. We will naturally fulfill our duty!"
Just as the two reached an agreement, Leo returned with Mona’s phone.
"What are you doing?"
Leo’s sharp gaze swept over the two. He had found it odd when asked to retrieve the phone, but he hadn't expected actually to find it in the car.
Mona’s gaze fell upon the phone in Leo’s hand, relieved that she had left her phone in his car when she got here.
"I was discussing the child's condition with Miss Granger." The doctor’s demeanor remained remarkably calm at this crucial
moment, quickly finding an excuse.
Leo didn't comment on it but simply asked, "Isn't it time for the child to receive a blood transfusion?"
At this time, the doctor had received the test report. He was stunned when he saw the blood type result on the report. He hadn't expected Luke to have the extremely rare
Rh-negative blood type.
As a doctor, he had encountered patients with Rh-negative blood type before. However, in this particular moment and setting, his gaze couldn't help but focus on Leo. According to what he knew, Leo’s blood type was the same.
"We will prepare for the blood transfusion.”
Although his heart was already in turmoil, the doctor didn't show a hint of it. He calmly addressed Leo.
Soon, Ben received the necessary treatment.
Through the ward's glass window, Mona looked at Luke’s pale face as he lay unconscious on the bed, her heart clenching with anguish.
At that moment, her phone rang. She picked up and heard Conan’s exhausted voice, "Stefan has been found. He went alone to the alley outside the villa area to play. We asked him about Luke’s injury, and he claimed to know nothing about it."
They had searched around for quite a while before locating Stefan. His clothes were in disarray, and his face bore several scratches, making him look quite pitiable. Seeing his condition, Mr. Barney Gray and Mrs.
Poppy Gray felt heartbroken and opposed
Conan’s intention to question Stefan excessively.
Conan could only ask a few casual questions, but Stefan acted as if he knew nothing. However, based on the footage Conan found in the surveillance, Stefan disappeared for some time after lingering at the entrance. He couldn't explain where he had gone.
This reminded Conan of Helen Shell.
Mona wasn't surprised by this, saying, "Check the surveillance footage. I believe Rue wouldn't lie.”
Hearing her response, Conan, on the other end of the phone, visibly hesitated. His tone became somewhat subdued, "Does it have to be this way?"
It wasn't that he didn't want to believe Rue, but he had a premonition. Once they reviewed the surveillance, a significant change would occur in his relationship with Mona.
However, Mona remained firm in her stance.
With no other choice, Conan reluctantly agreed.
While she and Conan were on the phone, Rue carefully approached Leo. She looked up at him and asked, "Are you going to marry someone else?"
Leo hadn't anticipated such a question from her and was momentarily taken aback. "Why would you ask that?"
Rue just shook her head, unwilling to speak.
Suspecting that there was something odd in the recent exchange between Mona and the doctor, Leo decided to crouch down and meet Rue’s gaze.
"Is there something special about you and your brother?"
Rue looked bewildered. "Mommy said we are the most precious gifts in the world."
Leo was about to shake his head when Rue added, "Our blood types are very special!"
