Chapter 100: Closing the Distance

The next day, as Eliana descended the stairs, she found Chase had already returned with breakfast, laying a feast across the table.

"Are you feeling extra generous today? You've got a whole table of breakfast treats."

Chase set the bowl in front of her, "It's on me, dig in."

This was Grandpa's call, and he couldn't defy it, so he complied.

Eliana eyed the spread of pastries and picked one with an appealing look, taking a bite, "Delicious."

"Then have more," Chase said, not looking up from his phone as he sat nearby.

Unbeknownst to her, Eliana was the main attraction as Chase secretly recorded her enjoying the meal.

He then sent the video to Grandpa.

"Your granddaughter-in-law is enjoying the breakfast you prepared. Are you happy now?"

Gregory responded with a satisfied smiley and replied, "I'm really looking forward to having a home-cooked meal with you two tonight."

"Got it, but remember, you promised to return to New York quietly after dinner tonight," Chase reminded, referring to their agreement.

Gregory quickly sent back an 'OK' emoji.

After breakfast, they left together for work.

"I have some talks tonight, it's going to be late, so you could lock the door tight, I'll crash at the gym."

By 'lock the door,' he meant lock it from the inside.

Eliana lightly hummed a response, but inside, she was curious about his business, yet felt with her being a 'fake wife', it wasn't appropriate to ask.

From the driver's seat, Chase's voice came calm and deep, "It's the project you negotiated last time, I need to design the security process for the venue, it will be a late night."

Eliana was slightly taken aback; she hadn't expected him to voluntarily share his affairs. Was this a sign their distance had closed?

She couldn't tell how happy she felt, "Alright, what's your next job?"

The car slowly pulled up to the company's entrance, and Chase said, "Security for a concert."

She'd heard a star was coming for a concert, and she didn't expect Chase to be capable of taking on such a grand project.

"Do your best, and if you finish early, come back home," she said.

"Will do."

After getting out of the car, Eliana entered the company and ran into acquaintances, Vanessa and Jeremy, as soon as she stepped into the elevator.

Since Eliana took over the multi-million-dollar order from Wilkinson Group, her work had become noticeably easier.

Upon meeting, Vanessa felt a lump in her throat, trying to find fault with Eliana, "Eliana, don't you think this perfume smell is quite overpowering?"

Eliana snorted with a smile, "This is Jeremy's favorite scent, a limited edition of Lady City, not available on the market. He went through connections to get it for me. Why, didn't he get you one?"

Vanessa's face fell. She'd been with Jeremy for so long, and even her ring was ill-fitted, let alone anything like this.

"Sis, I knew you still had a thing for Jeremy, you can't even part with the perfume he gave you."

Eliana sneered, "What he gave me is long gone in the trash. I have what I like, all readily available from my husband."

Jeremy's face darkened, and he kept silent, giving Vanessa a look that stopped her from saying more.

Eliana's temper was ignited, her words sharp, "Still working with a baby bump? It seems your Jeremy doesn't have much to offer."

"I don't like being idle at home, that's why I insisted on working. Jimmy dotes on me, driving me to and from work every day. Some people's husbands don't even show up once in several weeks, so pitiful." Vanessa was getting worked up, her neck flushing.

The elevator arrived, and Eliana gave a provoking smile, "It's not about the rides to work, it's about him being home at night that matters."

She knew Jeremy had been at the club every night, not sharing a room with Vanessa.

As expected, Vanessa got anxious, pouting and clinging to Jeremy's arm, "Jimmy, you heard that, how unscrupulous my sister is, she has to spend every night with her husband every night..."

"Shut up," Jeremy frowned, already annoyed by Eliana marrying someone else, and now this was just rubbing salt in the wound.

Vanessa's face turned ashen, staring at him in disbelief, "Jimmy, you..."

Jeremy looked impatient, "You go back to the company, I need to get back to work."

"But you promised to accompany me for the new cooperation talks," Vanessa's eyes pleaded.

"I'm not available today, some other time."

Jeremy said, closed the elevator door, and left.

"Jimmy..."

Vanessa's expression was gloomy. Was it necessary to be angry with her just for saying something bad about Eliana?

She entered the company, returned to her office, and was extremely agitated.

Now her mother wouldn't let her cause trouble for Eliana and urged her to get pregnant as soon as possible, or there would be trouble if things went south.

She took out her phone and called her ex-boyfriend, "Have you missed me lately?"

He was the best looking and capable among her many boyfriends.

"Of course, but I thought you got married?"

Vanessa smirked, "Being married doesn't stop us from having the occasional dinner out."

"Alright, I'm coming to find you now."

...

In the office, Eliana was working on a proposal when her phone rang.

"Miss Griffith, are you free tonight?"

Eliana heard Mr. Wilkinson's voice and immediately thought of his grandpa, "Does Grandpa want to see me?"

"I know it's sudden, but I can give you a few more perks on the foreign trade order..."

"No need, you've already given me an opportunity to cooperate with you, and I'm happy to help."

Business is all about sincerity. The multi-million-dollar order was the company's first big one, and she considered it paying a favor.

"Thank you very much, I'll pick you up at six tonight."

"Alright."

Eliana hung up and continued writing the proposal. After attending the dinner with Ethan last time, she had broadened her horizons in the foreign trade industry.

Now she just wanted to finish the proposal smoothly and cooperate with Wilkinson Group.

In the evening, she changed into a dress, tied her hair up simply, left her face makeup-free, and left the house.

Outside the company, she saw Ethan's car waiting at the entrance.

He drove a luxury Maybach, but the license plate was more expensive than the car itself.

"Been waiting long?"

Eliana walked over.

Ethan opened the car door for her, "Just arrived."

He was dressed very gentlemanly, but still wearing a mask to hide his face. His presence on the street was dazzling.

After Eliana got in the car, Ethan got in too, and they left together.

However, this scene was caught by Vanessa who just came out and took a photo. She felt excited that she finally got some dirt on Eliana!

You shameless thing, I'll let Jeremy know what kind of woman you are!
