Chapter 142 The Cage of Consequences
The cage screeched as it scraped across the scorched stone floor, the sound echoing like a scream through the cavernous chamber. Dust and ash swirled around the bars as it came to a sudden halt before Lucifer. He loomed above it, tall and unyielding, every movement deliberate, every breath heavy with authority. A devilish smirk curved his lips, sharp enough to cut through the shadows.
Flames danced along the edges of his fingers, casting flickering light that made the dark walls pulse with menace.
Lucifer began to circle the cage slowly, each step measured, his eyes never leaving Luca’s. The heat from his flames licked the air, wrapping around Luca like invisible chains. His chest tightened, and his gaze fell to the floor the instant Lucifer’s shadow swallowed him.
“You actually came… willingly,” Lucifer said, his voice low, dangerous, almost a growl that rattled the stone walls. “To Hell. On your own.”
Luca forced himself to lift his chin, trying to hide the tremor that ran through his limbs. “I knew you would come for me,” he said, voice steady but strained. “So I came first… before you could come for my realm.”
Lucifer’s grin widened, jagged as a blade in the dim light. Flames flickered along his hand like living serpents. “Destroy you? That was never my plan,” he said. “No, Luca. I want you to feel every ounce of the pain you thought you could escape. For daring to defy me… Lucifer Morningstar, the King of Hell, the King of All Darkness.”
Luca flinched at the words, his muscles coiling, but he did not speak.
“Where is your brother?” Lucifer’s voice dropped, sharp as a dagger. “The one you joined for the war. Why not go to him?”
Luca’s jaw tightened. His voice cracked, betraying the calm he tried to hold.
“Master… Michael… the Archangel… he deceived me. He he tricked me…”
Lucifer laughed then, a sound that cut through the silence, cold and cruel, echoing off the blackened walls. He leaned closer, letting the heat of his presence press down on Luca like a physical weight.
“Deceived you?” he repeated, voice dripping with scorn. “You forget who stands before you. I am the Father of All Lies. And yet… here you are, trembling, daring to lie in front of me.”
Luca’s knees threatened to give out, and he gripped the bars of the cage as if they could anchor him to reality. The fire in Lucifer’s eyes was no longer just heat it was judgment, a force that made every lie he’d ever told shrink beneath its intensity.
“I know your cunning,” Lucifer continued, his voice low, deliberate, each word landing like a hammer. “And you believed your brother would hand me your head.
That was the deal, wasn’t it?”
Shock flickered across Luca’s face, brief but undeniable. How could Lucifer know? How could he see the plan, the betrayal, the lies Luca had hidden even from himself?
Lucifer bent slightly toward the cage, letting the waves of heat from his flames wash over Luca, suffocating and intimate all at once. “You want to know how I found out?” he asked, his tone casual yet heavy, as if weighing every heartbeat in the chamber but he already knew Luca was too afraid to answer.
“No need to tell me, Master,” Luca murmured, his voice barely above a whisper, eyes darting away. The weight of Lucifer’s gaze pressed against him, a tangible force that made his chest tighten.
“I… I knew you would find out.”
Lucifer’s eyes narrowed, piercing him with a cold precision. “Then tell me… why are you here?” His tone shifted, sharp and expectant, like a blade ready to strike.
Luca swallowed hard, the cage rattling slightly under his trembling hands. He lifted his gaze, locking onto Lucifer’s, the fire in the King of Hell reflecting in his own eyes. “I… I know you will kill me,” he admitted, each word heavy with fear and resignation. “I know you never forgive.
But… may I see Selena… just one last time… before you end me?”
For a heartbeat, the world seemed to still. The shadows in the chamber thickened, the air growing heavier, each heartbeat echoing like a drum. Then, slowly, Lucifer’s smirk softened into a grinding smile, sharp but deliberate, as if savoring the moment. “One last time,” he said, almost casually, though the weight behind the words made Luca flinch.
Shock froze Luca in place. His fingers dug into the cold iron bars, knuckles whitening. Even Morgana, standing silently beside Lucifer, stiffened, her eyes widening, lips parting in disbelief. The tension in the room coiled tighter, almost suffocating.
Lucifer raised a single hand, deliberate and commanding. Shadows bent around him as two massive demons materialized in an instant, their blackened wings scraping the chamber ceiling, stirring dust and ash into the air. Their eyes glowed faintly red, their claws clicking against the stone floor. “Release the cage. Take him to Selena,” he ordered, voice echoing with unyielding authority.
The chains groaned as the cage doors swung open. Luca stumbled forward, almost losing his footing, his body leaning into the demons’ grasp. They held him firmly, their strength inhuman, their presence oppressive. In a blink, they moved, and the three of them disappeared into the swirling shadows, leaving silence and tension in their wake.
“Master… why did you agree so quickly?” Morgana’s voice trembled, laced with worry, each word heavy with unspoken fear.
Lucifer’s gaze remained fixed on the empty space where Luca had vanished, unwavering, sharp. “Didn’t you say Selena is no longer weak?” His tone was calm, but it carried an undercurrent of calculation. “I wanted to see what Luca will do now. I want to watch.”
Morgana’s hand clenched at her side, her nails biting into her palm. “But Master… he’s after her blood. If he takes it… she’ll die. And he’ll grow stronger.” The words trembled on her lips, revealing a vulnerability she rarely displayed.
For the first time in centuries, Lucifer noticed it the tremor of genuine concern, the subtle humanity in her voice.
“Do you doubt your pupil?” he asked, the corner of his mouth twitching, a faint curve that spoke of amusement and curiosity.
“I believe… but we know him,” Morgana whispered, eyes dark with worry, voice tight with fear. “If Luca touches her blood, she won’t survive. And he… he’ll become unstoppable.”
Lucifer’s grin returned, faint, knowing, almost predatory. “Then we’ll see if the pupil surpasses the teacher or falls.”
