Chapter 120 An Eye for an Eye

Chapter 120 The Angel’s Temptation
The windows didn’t just rattle—they groaned, trembling as if something pressed against them from the other side. Then they exploded inward in a burst of glass and wind. A spear of white light split through the throne room, slicing through the shadows like a blade. Feathers sharp, luminous, too bright to be gentle cut the air as enormous wings unfurled.

King Luca lifted his gaze, slow and deliberate. The swirling debris, the wind whipping his coat, the glow burning against the dark stone it all reflected in his eyes like fire catching on oil.

“What,” he said, voice dropping into a deep, dangerous growl, “is an angel doing in my kingdom?”

Michael descended with the grace of a falling star, feet touching the marble without a sound. His wings folded behind him in a deliberate sweep, light bending around him instead of dimming. He smiled, but it was a cold, carved thing.

“There is no place I cannot enter.”

Luca rose from his throne. The shadows around him curled like living things, gathering at his boots. His coat dragged across the floor in a heavy whisper, the sound carrying the promise of violence. Anger stirred in his eyes red blooming into molten gold while his fangs sharpened in instinctive warning.

“There are laws in Heaven,” he said, taking a slow step forward, “and laws in the Dark Kingdom.” His voice roughened like stone grinding against stone. “No trespassing. Yet here you stand, archangel.”
Another step.
A deeper growl.
“Even an angel must pay for breaking the rules.”

Michael didn’t flinch. He moved in as well, closing the space between them until their breaths mingled, until the heat of one clashed with the cold of the other. The air tightened around them, thick with old rivalry, old pride, old power. Two predators, both used to being obeyed, meeting in a place where neither was willing to bow.

For a moment, the throne room seemed to hold its breath.

Then Michael broke the stare not in defeat, but like a chess player moving to his next calculated step.

“I didn’t come for a fight,” Michael said, his voice steady, untouched by the threat in the air. “I came for your help. Join me, Luca. Together… we can destroy my brother.”

The words hung in the room like smoke.

Luca blinked once slowly then laughter burst out of him, sharp and echoing across the vast hall. It wasn’t joy. It was disbelief twisting into mockery.

“You want me to destroy Lucifer?” he scoffed, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye as he turned away. “Lucifer the king of Hell? The master of darkness? Our master?”
His shoulders shook with another laugh. “You truly have lost your mind.”

He took one step toward his throne.

“Luca.”
Michael didn’t raise his voice, but the quiet cut through the room like a blade.

Luca stopped mid-step.

Michael continued, gentler now, almost coaxing. “You hate him. You know you do.”

Slowly, Luca turned, the amusement draining from his face like someone blew out a candle.

Michael’s lips pulled into another smirk this one sharp, cold, and knowing. “I’ve watched how he treats you. Like you’re beneath him. Like you’re a toy he can crush whenever he wishes.”
He stepped closer, voice dropping lower. “But you are a vampire. A creature the world fears. A creature he should fear.”

A muscle in Luca’s jaw tightened.

“Join me,” Michael murmured, “and you will never bow to him again.”

Luca narrowed his eyes, suspicion slicing across his expression. “Why are you calling him our common enemy?”

Michael moved in until Luca could see the faint glow pulsing under the angel’s skin like liquid light flowing through veins. His expression shifted, shadows of something old and painful clouding his features.

“Because,” he whispered, “he killed someone precious.”

Luca’s breath caught. Seraphine? No. Impossible. She was too cunning, too desperate to cling to life. She would kneel until her spine snapped before letting Lucifer kill her.

“I have no one Lucifer killed,” Luca said, voice firm, but his eyes flickered with doubt.

Michael lifted a hand. Light spiraled around his fingers, twisting and weaving until it solidified into a horn small, ancient, humming like it contained a heartbeat.

He held it out.

“When you need me,” Michael said, “summon me. If you choose to stand with me.”

Luca hesitated before accepting it. The moment it touched his palm, something cold rushed up his arm.

Michael stepped back, the glow around him dimming. “Now… wake up.”

“Wake up?” Luca repeated, confused

and then the world shattered.

The throne room melted into nothing, pulled apart like smoke in wind.

His eyes flew open. He lay in his chamber, chest heaving, sweat chilling his skin. The dream clung to him too sharp, too real.

His fingers twitched.

Something cold pressed against his palm.

Slowly, he lifted his hand.

The horn.

It existed.

“Luca.”

The soft call slid through the room.

He lifted his head.

And everything inside him collapsed.

Morgana stood in the doorway, her dress soaked in something dark and still dripping. A wicked smile curved her lips lazy, cruel. In her hand, dangling by tangled hair…

His daughter’s head.

Luca’s vision blurred. His knees nearly buckled. The sound he made wasn’t human it tore out of him raw, like an animal mourning the first and last thing it ever loved.

“What have you done?” he whispered, voice trembling with rage so heavy the torches flickered.

Morgana tilted her head as if puzzled by his reaction. “A gift from Master,” she said lightly. “Next time, keep your children somewhere safe.”

“Seize her!” Luca roared, voice cracking with fury.

The chamber erupted. Vampires rushed forward, shadows racing across the floor, claws out, eyes burning with vengeance.

Morgana didn’t move.

She laughed a low, delighted sound.

“Do you really think thousands of vampires can hold me down?”

Her smile stretched wider feral, taunting, hungry.

AUTHOR’S NOTE

Thank you so much for reading this chapter! This scene was one of the most emotional and tension-filled moments to write. Luca’s world is shifting dreams are blending with reality, loyalties are being tested, and he’s being pushed to question everything he thought he knew about power, family, and betrayal.

Michael’s offer wasn’t just a conversation; it was the first spark of a war that has been waiting to erupt. And Morgana’s cruel “gift”… well, that marks a turning point for Luca, one that will shape every decision he makes from here.

I hope you enjoyed the mix of darkness, suspense, and raw emotion in this chapter. The next chapters will reveal even deeper secrets, unexpected alliances, and consequences that none of the characters are ready for.
