Chapter 108 The Blood Between Us
A child close to me…
Michael’s child was close enough for me to breathe the same air… and I didn’t know.
The thought didn’t just sit in Lucifer’s mind it pulsed there like a bruise. Every beat of it pressed heavier on his chest. He sat in the dim glow of his office, the fire casting restless shadows across the walls. His fingers tapped the armrest without rhythm, a habit he only fell into when his mind was spiraling.
He hated spiraling.
The silence was deep, thick, almost suffocating until the door eased open.
Morgana stepped inside with the effortless confidence she wore like perfume. The click of her heels echoed, sharp and measured. Her black gown swept behind her like spilled ink, and her expression held the same stillness as a drawn blade.
“Master,” she said, dipping her head with controlled grace. “The meeting is about to start.”
Lucifer didn’t move for a heartbeat. His gaze stayed fixed on the fire, as if the flames might give him an answer his own senses failed to reveal. Only after a moment did he turn his head slightly, jaw clenched.
“Let them start without me, Morgana,” he murmured. “My mind is… occupied.”
She approached a few steps, the faint scent of night-blooming flowers trailing behind her. “Humans can wait,” she said quietly. “They cannot command us.”
Her eyes studied him carefully, almost cautiously. Lucifer wasn’t easily disturbed, but something in the air around him felt off, heavier than usual.
“Master…” she said slowly, “what is weighing on you?”
Lucifer leaned back, the chair creaking under him as if hesitant to hold the weight of what he was about to say. The firelight caught the sharp lines of his face, turning them fierce, troubled, almost human.
“Michael’s child is close to me,” he said, his voice dropping into a low, dangerous calm. “Close… and I didn’t sense him.”
Morgana’s reaction wasn’t dramatic it was subtle, but unmistakable. The slight widening of her eyes. The controlled inhale she failed to hide. Morgana rarely showed surprise, but this pierced straight through her composure.
She stepped closer, almost unconsciously.
“Master… you always sense Michael’s blood. In anyone. How?”
“Dorcas,” Lucifer said, his voice low and smooth, a dark, crooked smile curling across his lips. “My sister hid him. Right under my nose. And if there is anyone capable of masking his bloodline from me… it’s her.”
Morgana’s breath hitched, a flicker of disbelief passing through her composed facade. “Then we must find him. Immediately. What will you do when you find him?”
Lucifer’s eyes glimmered, the faint light within them sharp and wicked, like fire caught behind glass. He leaned back, letting the shadows of the room drape across his face, savoring the pause.
“I was thinking,” he said, slow and deliberate, each word dripping with dark amusement, “of using Seraphine… to kill her own son.”
Morgana’s lips parted slightly, a silent gasp held back, her pulse quickening beneath her calm exterior.
“Vampires will do anything to survive,” he continued, tilting his head, the candlelight catching the sharp angles of his features. “Let’s see if she can do the unthinkable. Kill her own blood.”
He leaned forward, eyes narrowing as the smile deepened, dangerous and cruel. “And I want to see Father’s face… when he realizes I have destroyed his first grandchild. I want Michael’s despair… and I will taste it.”
“Master,” Morgana breathed, almost a whisper, “if that child dies… Heaven and Hell will tear each other apart.”
Lucifer’s eyes softened for a heartbeat, not with kindness, but with a glimmer of longing, nostalgia. “I know. And I miss war. I miss watching angels fall… hearing their wings snap… watching them crawl, clawing for mercy, only to become demons.”
A slow, dark smirk crept across Morgana’s face. “Then I will begin searching.”
Lucifer raised a hand, cutting her off mid-step. “No. This is family business. The boy is my brother’s son. I will welcome him myself… as his uncle.”
He rose from his chair with a deliberate, lethal grace, the faint rustle of his coat the only sound as he moved. The corridor seemed to lean into him, cold air curling around his steps, whispering as if alive.
Voices from the boardroom drifted toward him soft at first, then sharp as he drew closer.
Inside, Luke and Andrew sat beside Selena, their eyes scanning files with practiced focus. Two boys he had once raised, then left in an orphanage to follow his own design. Years had carved them into precise, controlled young men too keen, too composed for humans, too attuned to notice only what mattered. They moved naturally in this world, yet unaware of how tightly their fates were intertwined with his.
Lucifer stepped inside. Chairs scraped against polished floors as every board member rose instinctively, heads bowed, a silent acknowledgment of his presence. The room held its breath.
His gaze slid over the two boys. Their spines stiffened, subtle but clear, sensing the weight that followed him. Every inch of the room seemed to press in, waiting.
He moved closer, deliberate and silent, letting the tension coil like a predator ready to strike.
“Luke. Andrew.”
The words cut through the air, sharp and commanding, as if each syllable could carve through steel.
“Only the two of you have ever been close to me…”
Lucifer’s eyes lingered on Luke’s tense shoulders, then Andrew’s quick swallow, catching the faint shimmer of their hidden heritage, a secret that pulsed quietly beneath the surface.
“Tell me,” he said, voice calm yet heavy, each word measured and loaded with intent, “which of you… is my brother’s son?”
